This place is a local legend. Going strong since 1910. Somehow I kept forgetting to post a review. Well here it is. Absolutely Fabulous. Ambiance is warm and inviting. Food is Amazing with so many delicious choices. The lines tell the tale. Always bustling and busy. Servers are kept on their toes, but work together for great service and making you feel welcome and comfortable. Hubby and I adore the sausage with meat sauce app. Meat sauce flavor is rich and silky, and the sausage is wonderfully seasoned. Topped with a perfect amount of cheese shavings. I always get a tongue plate for one. It's vibrant and tender just right to add to your sliced bread. The rotating sandwich's and sampler plates are creative and oh so crave worthy. They have a venue next door for special events. Been to a couple of their party's and no one leaves hungry or unhappy. Tucked in between the restaurant and venue is their Deli, full of ready to go foods, spices, sauces, gifts and Full Deli Counter. Set some time aside, grab some friends, and see what Family traditions and generations of experience can deliver. Thank you Luigi's for nourishing your town with Love, Laughter, and Exceptional Food.
It was St. Patty's day and of course I stopped by to have a refreshing drink and some corn beef. The drinks were delicious and the food was amazing. If you are from Bakersfield, I would recommend coming here, you will not be disappointed. I'm surprised the Yelp community is not talking more about this place. It's AMAZING!!
Luigi's is always such a treat. This year was the first time my office started getting Luigi's for lunch occasionally. I will say sometimes the pasta gets way too soggy when you order through door dash but it's the perfect opportunity to get a salad or a sandwich. Luigi's please make the Spicy Chris available on DoorDash!!! I love coming here during the holiday season to pickup peppermint pies for Christmas and NYE. The Clam Linguine was cooked perfectly and had a ton of clams which was really nice. I needed to add a dash of lemon to bring it even more over the top. Service totally depends on who your server is. For the most part service is usually very good. I noticed last time we were there our actual waitress rarely spoke to us but was conversing with the tables around us. The patio is gorgeous and heated which is where I typically like to sit. Inside the walls are filled with history which is so cool but it can get a little crammed and it's such a busy place I can see it being very difficult to dine inside with a child.
Luigi's was established in 1910 and is 5 generations in, a family owned restaurant. Kassie was my delightful server today. She made the time to answer my questions patiently even though she was very busy. She made an outstanding Martini as well as being friendly & attentive, asking me before I ordered if I any food sensitivity. Brilliant, because I do, although today I chose to ignore them today. Other restaurants could learn from this level of service. I'm telling on myself here, I was seated in the patio to wait for a girls lunch and realized I was a week early, HaHa! Talk about a brain fart. I was seated at a table but chose to move to the outdoor bar seating to free up the table for a larger group. John who was my initial server at the table insisted that I didn't need to move, but I didn't want others to have wait to be seated while I ate alone at a 4 top. I had a dry Tito's Martini which tasted heavenly. I ordered the Truffle Sacchetti, Mmmmm scrumptious! It is a "Purse Pasta filled with ricotta and black truffle and served with a browned butter sage sauce. My first bite transported me to an Italian Cafe in my imagination. So rich and flavorful, but not overpowering in the Truffle flavor, the balance was perfect. It was a beautiful day to sit out in their lovely patio area. There are reasons this restaurant is so successful. I highly recommend Luigi's, a Bakersfield tradition.
I have lived in Bakersfield for 20 years and I have never been to Luigi's. It is not for lack of trying. My work schedule and weekend schedule do not dovetail into the restaurant's hours of operation. Today, I took the day off to celebrate my son's birthday and decided to make that pilgrimage to Luigi's. I am SO glad I did. The place absolutely lives up to its hype--excellent food, service, and culture. My best friend is a Sicilian from Queens and I thought I was back at her house. We arrived at 11:35 am and the place was packed to the hills. The front staff was very accommodating and professional. We went to the quaint deli/market next door and purchased a few items. Employees were very endearing there as well. The wait wasn't too bad and once we were seated, it was smooth sailing. We did not feel rushed at all.
The food itself was really good , flavorful, well-prepared, and definitely what you'd expect from a solid Italian spot. I ordered catering/takeout for an event totaling a little over $400, so the quality of the food was appreciated and enjoyed. That said, the service unfortunately fell short. When I called to place the catering order, the person on the phone was unhelpful and came across as rude. I had reviewed the menu beforehand and asked a few reasonable questions about catering. When I politely said "thank you so much for your help" and was mid-sentence saying goodbye, she hung up without responding, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. When I arrived to pick up the food, everything was packed in what looked like shipping/Costco-style boxes. While that alone wasn't a dealbreaker, I did ask if some of the items that would get cold could be placed in the appropriate catering/takeout containers that I've seen them provide to other customers. I was told they could do one, but that proper catering containers require an "extra large" order. Although my order wasn't in the thousands, it was still a significant catering purchase -- and with a 30-minute drive home, much of the food ended up getting cold. Overall, the food was good, but the customer service !!especially over the phone!! was disappointing. I've had better catering/takeout experiences with other Italian restaurants in town that were more accommodating and communicative. I might consider ordering again if the service improves or if I place a larger order, but for now, the service left a lot to be desired.
Every year during the holiday season I look forward to the peppermint pie! you can order it whole or if you're dining in you can order by the slice! you can even get some from the gift shop which my household did and we ordered ahead so that we could bring this to our Christmas celebrations and every year, the family loves this pie! Keep frozen if you're storing it beforehand because it does have ice cream. honestly every bite is filled with ice cream and peppermint greatness and is delicious! i think about this pie every year and i forego all other desserts present if a Luigi's peppermint pie is present!
Luigi's is probably the top restaurant in Bakersfield. I can't think of anything that comes close. I've had multiple things across the menu and nothing has disappointed thus far. The wait tends to be quite long and to any new patron that should be a good sign. Kill time and sit by their bar inside and outside! The drink costs aren't crazy and they work very quickly. The staff is very helpful and they're very open to customizing your experience. They'll even tell you the best way to do it. You'll see the many ways I've customized my meals both below and in my photos! Nicco's Steak and Pasta - I get this glorious slab of steak probably a third of the times I visit. Most of the time they are done to my particular liking with one instance where I considered it overdone. For a few bucks extra they can add some gorgonzola cheese melted on top of the steak for more savor. As with all the dishes you can even swap out the pasta! Truffle Sacchetti - Heavy flavor bombs. If you're getting this you'd need to some bread to scoop up oil and clean up your plate cause it's just that good. On the expensive side as far as pastas go, plus it doesn't have any protein. I recommend getting this as a side to your meals instead of getting it by itself. Ribs - A special on the weekends. I think this is the greatest bang for your buck. They offer a half rack and a full rack for $10 more. I gotta tell ya, you'd have to be crazy hungry to finish a full rack. If you find that the ribs are lacking in flavor, I highly suggest asking for some barbecue sauce and they will happily give it to you for no extra charge. The sauce is sweet and tangy just like typical barbecue sauces. Lasagna - Another special. Something about this is just so good. Great amount of ricotta, humongous serving, enough to share or even take home. The sandwiches in general are all pretty good, I've tried a few of them but I think the selections above are what makes this place special. Every single one of my meals here are memorable and you can tell other locals feel the same way judging by how busy this place is every day! Want anything they serve at the comfort of your home? Stop by their deli! Has most of the menu right there along with an awesome wine cellar!
I got to say with a reservation we were able to sit down at a great time. We had a great menu, funny and attentive. It gets so packed I can see why they take a while in the kitchen to provide us with fresh food. Because man oh man the food is amazing!!! For my first time I did not hold back. Our group really enjoyed the pasta and meals. The Truffle pasta was my favorite, many of our friends ordered large portions but I wish there was even more in a large. It is divine!!! The New York steak was so tender and juicy and flavorful. The ribs had such a good taste and also so tender. We couldn't forget dessert. We tried the coffee ice cream cake, butterfinger ice cream cake, and olive oil cake. They were very good but my favorite was the olive oil cake. So light and sweet!! Our table ordered a couple drinks including the red sangria, mimosa, and expreso martini. They were very yummy! Overall, I understand now why it's a stable in town! Really wishing I can come again soon already! I can't stop thinking of the steak and truffle pasta!
Luigi's is a great place to meet up with friends and have a meal together. I love the outside patio the most. The photos I added are at Luigi's warehouse event center and the event we went to was the Fencing gala put on my Luigi's and Kern Athletic Fencing Foundation. It was so much fun and the food that Luigi's brought out was fabulous. I couldn't get enough of it. I can't wait to come back for lunch and try some other options they have.
Luigis is Bakersfield famous! It's such a staple that our family braved standing in line on their busiest day of the year (the Saturday before Christmas) for lunch here. Reservations/Walk-Ins: They do take reservations but they can be difficult to get and must be booked far in advance. Since we had missed the reservation window, we came early to stand in line to get our name on the walk-in list. We were advised that anyone in the line at opening would get to eat there, but the wait time would vary. We arrived around 10:15am and the line was already around the block. A little before 11am, they started to seat guests and take names for the waitlist. We were quoted 2-2.5 hours. We decided to grab a drink at the Padre nearby rather than go home, which ended up being key. Stay close by in the area. We were called around 1.25 hours after we checked in. They give you 5 minutes to arrive. Atmosphere: Luigis is a lively spot! There were so many folks celebrating the holidays. We saw a table full of santas and a large group that took over almost the entire main dining room the long way! This is the spot to gather with friends, do some day drink and dig into good food. If you're looking for a quiet meal, this isn't the place for you. Food: The food is simple but delicious! I got the sandwich and pasta combo, which I think is absolutely the way to go. The sandwich was a nice cold cut italian and I enjoyed the pasta with red sauce. My father in law got a juicy steak sandwich. Everyone who took a bite of it immediately wished they had gotten it because of how soft and tender the meat was. We had to finish off the meal with a butterfinger pie! Store: If one meal isn't enough to get your fix, there is a grocery store next door where they sell their pastas and jarred sauces to take home! Luigis is a must try experience in Bakersfield. As long as you come in with a patient mindset, you'll have a great time!
In short: Please get the white pasta Your life will be changed forever! The white pasta is so simple but so good! When we have big events, we order giant trays of pasta from here to serve. You can't go wrong with any pasta and any pasta you choose will be a crowd pleaser, but the white pasta is vegetarian and kid friendly and also so buttery, just the right amount of salt, and just hits the spot. We also ordered penne and the ravioli which were fantastic too. Their meals also came with dinner rolls and a tray of single serving butter which are perfect for the guests. read more
One of the best places in Bakersfield with not only awesome food and service but a ton of history of Bakersfield!!!! This visit was my sons 27th Birthday so we decided to take the kids there for a Birthday Bash!!!! First off if you are new and haven't been there will be a wait that could mount up to an hour plus. Trust me it is so well worth the wait. Secondly a little hidden secret that I found out yesterday you can make a reservation for 11:00am nothing after that time....Shhhhhh don't tell anyone. lol We waited for about 45 minutes after arriving at 11am. Hence wished I had known about the reservation rule lol. The seating is a bit tight and the noise level is high. If you look around no one really cares though because they are having a blast. We promptly greeted by a cheerful young lady that took our drink order and asked if we had any questions. No alcohol on this trip but they do have an awesome indoor and outdoor bar that mix some great drinks. We started the lunch off with pickled tongue for 2 since we can't get the kids to eat.... Their loss our gain. To me the pickled tongue is the absolute best in Bakersfield. For my lunch I ordered the tri-tip sandwich which it has been a long time since I've ordered and it was absolutely awesome. Perfectly cooked to a medium-rare piled high with meat topped with lettuce, onion and a special dipping sauce. FYI the dipping sauce is actually on the sandwich not in a bowl to dip...lol The server got a kick when I explained that a dipping sauce should be dipped.... lol We topped the lunch off with their go to Butterfinger Pie!!!!! more like 2.5 but will definitely NOT be back & NOT RECOMMEND. Home style food Cute decor Limited parking Loud There is a nice little bar next to the restaurant. Quick service Had their clam linguini but it was more of a noodle soup then actual pasta. More of a drinking place. Asked for Check and waited 20 Minutes for it so not a great aspect. Never ever a bad meal, never. Steak, seabass, halibut, ribs, tri-tip sandwich, pasta- white & red, appetizer platters, truffles, soft or hard roll, salads, tuna... everything bomb! I am rather picky and do not eat tuna anywhere but home & 1 sandwich shop but gave it a try and it was so good I've now ordered it twice in a month. Ribs just melt off the bone in your mouth. Steak is obviously bomb because they run out everytime. The place to go to feel like a huge reunion of family&friends. Have you ever seen someone angry at Luigis?! 10/10 recommend read more

Had a date lunch with my daughter today. It's been a few years since we've been here. I don't know why we don't go more often. Could be the hours. And they are always so busy everyday. The service was great and the food never disappoints. My daughter had the 1/2 & 1/2. I had the bolognese pasta and Luigi's sandwich. I ended up taking the sandwich home. I didn't read it right but I thought you could choose your own sandwich off the list, but you can't. I wanted to try their hot pastrami. Maybe next time. read more
No I have been to Luigi's forever ago when I was about in my 20s and now I'm in my 50s I stayed away from it for a long time because whenever I would go with friends there was never anything for me to eat there other than the bread. I went with my fiancé because he's been wanting to go and I told him I would just eat whatever to get by so he could enjoy himself but I found that they had some mushroom raviolis. They were really good. They were really flavorful, but I am not a fan of all the oil that was in the plate, I did have to wipe them off with the napkin first so I probably won't order that dish again. I didn't take a picture of the wedge salad, but I am a huge fan of wedge salad, and this one was very tiny. I had to even ask if it was a large or small. we were going to share the wedge salad that I let him eat it instead because I wasn't a fan of the lettuce it was very bitter. It wasn't like the wedge salad that I've had everywhere else. Maybe that's the point to be different but when you eat very little items because of being vegetarian, I guess you're wanting things to be familiar. The restaurant looked the same as it did 30 years ago and I'm sure that's why people love this place. There's outdoor seating when the weather is nice I would be willing to go back. I just have to find something else to eat and ask a lot of questions before ordering. Our waitress was very nice, and there was no wait. There is very limited parking parking so if you're going at lunchtime, you might want to get there early to find a spot. read more

Let me just say, it was worth the wait! I sat inside and got to enjoy all the Bakersfield memorabilia. I was continuously taken care of by their very attentive staff! Pictured is their small wedge salad and small pasta with marinara with the truffle sacchetti! Everything was top notch and freshly made. I honestly am going to have a hard time making my own spaghetti after this. This is definitely a must stop place if you're ever in Bakersfield, and be sure to check out their beautiful patio area! read more
I'm a big fan of Luigi's atmosphere, but to be honest, the last couple times I've been there, the food was not so good. I'm not sure if it's because they are always slammed, or if the quality of food is different. The majority of people are there drinking wine or socializing. Don't get me wrong, I love socializing but to do so, you have to go out back and stand in a massive crowd. Again, I know they are slammed and are limited to space. I usually get the half and half which I love and it hasn't changed in 30 +years. I decided to try the New York Steak for the first time. I wasn't impressed. They was alot of fat and gristle. For the price I would expect flavor and a good cut. The wedge salad was good. I have to give it 3 stars out of 5. read more

I just ate at luigi's for the first time. The place is really fun and every table was packed. The service was great.. amazing atmosphere and the sausage sandwich was one of the best ever. A Bakersfield staple! I always get an aperol sprits to start off. It's so refreshing & is the perfect brunch cocktail. I usually get the special steak and upgrade to truffle purses. After getting truffle purses I refuse to get any other pasta now! The red and white is amazing as well but man those truffle purses have my whole heart! Lol The service is always on point. It's literally busy at all times so there's really not a trick to getting in at a good time. I always go with friends as a reservation with a big group. They bring out a soft or hard roll along with all the yummy toppings. I always get a side order of beef tongue it's an absolute must when coming here. Not a large market but we only have two small ones in town. And this is the 'bigger' one. I like the offerings here. They do not have it all but it is still packed with stuff and always busy. Open il 4pm. Except Sunday and Monday. Many regulars here where the staff call them by name. My kind of place. Today I got some thin, extra long spaghetti, *Gino's* some pasta sauce, garlic paste, tomato paste and a beautiful bottle of $12 Fallen Angel Moscato. Many gift ideas here. On the higher end of price spectrum. Many people this date were buying frozen breads, cheeses and doing pick up orders for family dinners. As for parking, I got a spot right out front on the street and security was there too for the ongoing homeless issue. Modern world meets Old World is how I see this little market. Lots of wine! I wish I came downtown more. I would more of a regular and they would surely know my name. read more

Best brunch we had in bakersfield, the ambiance and the crowd is cheerful, there was a wait time in the weekend, we sat in the patio We got the truffle as an appetizer and it was delicious. We orderd the steak sandwich and it was bimb and the ravioli was good as well, the service and staff were good. read more

It was our first time there, I didn't love what I ordered, but we will go again. I love garlic, I expected garlic by the description but the white noodles had so much garlic that none of us at the table could really enjoy it. We wondered if they were incorrectly made. The sandwich was good, I wouldn't order it again, maybe just wasn't my taste. Fiancé ordered the burger and it was very good. Our third party ordered the pastrami sandwich and said he liked it. It was cool to look at everything on the walls, but we wished we had sat outside after we saw how lovely the patio was on our way out. Service was good. read more
Tried Luigi's for the first time today with my boyfriend. We ordered the Italiano plate, small truffle sacchetti (even though I said a large) and two lemon drops. The portions were tiny, not worth the price. It was defent but not for the price I paid for. The lemon drops were good, it was sweet - just how I like it. The service was also very nice, it was just the price and portion ratio we were not happy with. Might not come back, not worth it. read more
Was invited for a friend's work event and it was my first time to dine in this restaurant. I only heard of good things about this place and this dining experience confirmed what I have heard. Staff were attentive, ambiance was perfect and of course, food was excellent. We were offered different appetizers prior to the dinner and everything tasted good! I also enjoyed their gelatos and would have probably eaten more if I was not feeling full from dinner. Luigis is certainly one of Bakersfield hometown staples. The walls are full of hometown memories of years past and historical memorabilia. The service is fast for always being an extremely busy restaurant. You will always find a long line of people waiting to be seated, but the food always makes the wait worth it. I always try to order the steak sandwich which they often run out of if you don't get there early. read more

As always, Gino and Co. didn't disappoint. Came in to celebrate my mom's birthday (her choice). Nothing better than celebrating an occasion at this Bakersfield landmark by having good drinks, good conversation, and delicious food. The kids had pasta and split some appetizers (pickled tongue, soft rolls, and mushrooms). My mom got herself a steak, my wife and I split a 10 oz NY steak, we substituted the side dishes for truffles, I had a steak as well, then my dad had a Monte Cristo burger medium rare. Finally, my wife capped it off with a full rack of ribs that I split with her. Everything was great and we even got a butterfinger pie to sing happy birthday. The ambiance is always friendly and it's very nostalgic considering the building is over 100 years old! If you live in Bakersfield and have never visited, you're missing out. If you're not from Bakersfield, it's a must visit. read more
