I can't believe I've lived here for so long without having experienced Luigi's! The hype is real. We went on a Friday around 1:00. We were told it would be 30-35 minutes, but it only ended up being 8 minutes. It was so nice to be in a restaurant with character, history and personality. Loved seeing all the old photos. It was noisy, but not from loud music, but from people chatting and enjoying having conversations. We order the red and white pasta, tri tip sandwich and pastrami sandwich. They do not skimp on the meat. Sandwiches were delicious. I enjoyed my pasta and side plate of salami, cheese and bread. To end our lunch we had the butterfinger ice cream pie. Chef's kiss on a great lunch. The staff at Luigi's doesn't skip a beat. Our water glasses were never empty. Even being busy, the service isn't compromised. Afterwards, we walked around their store. It was full of take and bake items, wines and deli items. I highly recommend people visit!
In the heart of Old Town Kern there is Luigi's. Pa great atmosphere, staff, and food. They also have a store which has some favorites. Lunch was good, as the fish of the day was salmon. I also ordered truffles for an appetizer. I definitely recommend Luigi's to everyone.

Now let me give you the insider tips because this is one of those places that if you know, you know! So, If you want the patio (and trust me, you do), get there before 10:45 a.m. They open at 11, and those tables disappear FAST. Even on hot days, the misters keep it cool, and it's the perfect spot to enjoy lunch. This visit, I ordered my absolute favorite! THE Giovanna Salad with grilled chicken! I had to go light on the meal to save room the real star of the show: the Butterfinger Ice Cream Pie! The food is incredible, and the staff always makes you feel like family! If you're just passing through Bakersfield, do yourself a favor and make Luigi's a stop. You may think you've had great Italian food...but until you've been here, you're missing out.
I dropped by Luigi's since I was in the area, and ordered the Giovanna's Gourmet Salad- small since I didn't want to get something heavy due to my long drive. I placed the order over the phone, and the cashier was very nice. She had my order ready when I arrived. The Giovanna's salad came with mixed greens with candied walnut and pecan crumbles, no actual pieces in the salad so it was a little disappointing. I got the blue cheese on the side. The salad was very fresh and tasty, paired with balsamic vinaigrette. There is a separate restaurant area, bar, and deli here! It is so cute inside and has a lot of character. They even sell t-shirts and little knick knacks. I am looking forward to trying the truffle sacchetti and pasta bolognese in the future. Happy eating! Yelp Review #42- 2026

I know, to many locals this is probably unimaginable for someone who has called Bakersfield home for almost 20 years, and let me say.. I get it. I now understand the hype. From the delicious food to the way they make you feel like family with their impeccable yet personable service, it is no surprise this over 115 year old local family business has won over the hearts and minds of Bakersfield and those who visit. Our warm welcome: We didn't check the hours beforehand, and showed up at 2:30, which is their closing time, like complete chumps. Never the less, every person in both the deli and restaurant insisted for us to come in and eat. The owner, Gino, was one of the many friendly faces who greeted us and ensured us it was no problem. This was very kind. I don't like showing up within the last hour before a restaurant closes, let alone the literal time they close. The kindness and welcoming approach in which everyone insisted we stayed, made me know they truly wanted us to have the chance to enjoy an amazing lunch with them, and amazing would be an understatement. The service was down right impressive. Our server, Chris, was incredibly friendly and attentive. Arguably the best service in town. Now let's get to the delicious food: Everything we ordered was top notch, but the truffle sachetti "pasta purse" completely stole the show. They are now a forever must as a shared appetizer or main dish. Though I do very much look forward to jumping around the menu and coming in during their daily and seasonal/popup specials I've seen on their social media. The phenomenal ambiance: The atmosphere is something out of a Billy Joel song, a compliment I am sure I am not the first to give. The inside is decked out wall to wall with old family photos and Bakersfield memorabilia. As it was a nice day, we sat outside in their beautiful shaded area with a very nice outdoor bar I wouldn't mind coming back to pay a proper visit. Needless to say, while this was my first visit, it won't be my last. I look forward to the taste of the truffle sachetti and the warm, welcoming atmosphere Luigi's provides.
Luigi's is crowded. Parking kinda sucks. The neighborhood ain't great. The food is awesome. Luigi's is a family-owned Bako institution. Service here is quick and attentive. Why? The lunch rush is pretty much their hours of business, start to finish. Although there's lots of seating, both interior and a party-atmosphered patio, the wait can be lengthy. Speaking of "lengthy", expect to spend a couple of hours here, including the wait for a table, eating your meal, and spending time in their shop. The food is hearty and delicious. A "small" personal antipasto plate shows up at your table shortly after you sit. There are so many delicious-sounding things on their menu it's hard to choose what to order (I had one of the best tasting steaks I ever had here) They serve dishes I've only seen here, like the Sacco beans (which are also sold in their shop) What I can see after eating here a few times is that they offer a marriage of old school Italian-American with local Basque influences and personal family touches. Luigi's is strictly a daytime lunch affair. They are opened Tuesday through Saturday, but only from 10:30AM to 2:30PM. That's it. There is no dinner service. The area -- Old Town Kern -- can be-- okay, IS -- sketchy, even in the daytime. There is plenty of parking; lots are scattered in the restaurants vicinity, but Luigi's is so popular and they're only opened for lunch so you get a full days number of customers in the span of 4 hours. That said, a trip to Bakersfield practically demands a visit to Luigi's. IYKYK and if you know you'll go.
We entered Luigi's not knowing what to expect considering we've only ever had their catering service which does not include the whole menu. When we sat down the staff was so welcoming and friendly and very attentive to needing refills, menu recommendations, and really anything we needed. The food was absolutely delicious, it was simple but honestly was some of the best food I've ever had.
Truly a must while in town! Great service, even better food and drinks! Outside bar and seating is a fun vibe, whether intimate or with a group! Love it here!
I typically go to Luigi's for an evening event. Last week, I took the time to trek downtown to have lunch with friends. It was great. There was entirely too much food, and it was all delicious. Thankfully, I decided to share the Thursday special sandwich. That was the perfect amount. The salads were fresh and all the ingredients were just the right combinations and great flavor. A reservation is definitely the way to go. We had an 11am reservation when they first open for lunch. We had a wonderful table on the patio on a great day. John took very good care of us and kept everything straight. It was impressive! We enjoyed a wonderful lunch and time together. Luigi offers amazing food and helps create memories!
I came here on a Wednesday for lunch. Restaurant was packed and parking was very scarce. I found a seat at the bar and was greeted by Julie, the bartender. I ordered the Italian deli sandwich on sour dough and a side of pasta salad. Food arrived within 15 minutes. The pasta salad is delicious : it comes with garbanzo beans which was different for me. The deli sandwich was great! Tons of meat and fresh vegetables. The sour dough bread, however, is a little hard. I would order the other bread next time. Delicious food, family owned with decades of history, great prices and amazing customer service! Yes I will be back and definitely recommend!
If you ask me where to go eat in town I'll easily say Luigi's I can't think of a bad menu item! Also the vibe of the place is unbeatable especially if you get seated in the patio! It's a must try spot no questions asked. Also the staff is amazing they make you feel like family. My friends and I always choose this spot when planning a great together for lunch.
This was my Mother's Day celebration lunch and it was great first experience , service was awesome, delicious food, I had Ribeye with pasta cooked to perfection! Enjoyed so much my lemon drop ! ambience was amazing, I can't wait to go back !
Luigi's is always such a treat. This year was the first time my office started getting Luigi's for lunch occasionally. I will say sometimes the pasta gets way too soggy when you order through door dash but it's the perfect opportunity to get a salad or a sandwich. Luigi's please make the Spicy Chris available on DoorDash!!! I love coming here during the holiday season to pickup peppermint pies for Christmas and NYE. The Clam Linguine was cooked perfectly and had a ton of clams which was really nice. I needed to add a dash of lemon to bring it even more over the top. Service totally depends on who your server is. For the most part service is usually very good. I noticed last time we were there our actual waitress rarely spoke to us but was conversing with the tables around us. The patio is gorgeous and heated which is where I typically like to sit. Inside the walls are filled with history which is so cool but it can get a little crammed and it's such a busy place I can see it being very difficult to dine inside with a child.

IF YOU WANT AUTHENTIC ITALIAN IN A CLASSIC RESTAURANT THATS BEEN STANDING THE TETS OF TIME.... COME HERE I love hole in the wall spots like this! They have charm, history and timeless menu options that'll surely fill up any hungry tummy. All the food comes in large quantities so you'll probably have leftovers! And its just as great next day :) We had a variety of things and shared. Definitely 10/10 for ambiance, food, and exceptional service!! **Ask about the secret menu** Everything here was delicious! The only downside to my experience here is the wait. Make sure to calculate time when visiting Luigi's and their hours! For reference, I came for the first time with a group of 6, no reservation, and waited almost an hour to be sat. Still was worth the wait and I'd come back any day! :) read more

Had my wife's birthday there yesterday. Always very good as usual. Food was great. The atmosphere is always good. Always full of people. The service was really good. Always good seeing Gino there. He's really done his family proud he really runs it good! read more

Luigi's was established in 1910 and is 5 generations in, a family owned restaurant. Kassie was my delightful server today. She made the time to answer my questions patiently even though she was very busy. She made an outstanding Martini as well as being friendly & attentive, asking me before I ordered if I any food sensitivity. Brilliant, because I do, although today I chose to ignore them today. Other restaurants could learn from this level of service. I'm telling on myself here, I was seated in the patio to wait for a girls lunch and realized I was a week early, HaHa! Talk about a brain fart. I was seated at a table but chose to move to the outdoor bar seating to free up the table for a larger group. John who was my initial server at the table insisted that I didn't need to move, but I didn't want others to have wait to be seated while I ate alone at a 4 top. I had a dry Tito's Martini which tasted heavenly. I ordered the Truffle Sacchetti, Mmmmm scrumptious! It is a "Purse Pasta filled with ricotta and black truffle and served with a browned butter sage sauce. My first bite transported me to an Italian Cafe in my imagination. So rich and flavorful, but not overpowering in the Truffle flavor, the balance was perfect. It was a beautiful day to sit out in their lovely patio area. There are reasons this restaurant is so successful. I highly recommend Luigi's, a Bakersfield tradition. read more

I have lived in Bakersfield for 20 years and I have never been to Luigi's. It is not for lack of trying. My work schedule and weekend schedule do not dovetail into the restaurant's hours of operation. Today, I took the day off to celebrate my son's birthday and decided to make that pilgrimage to Luigi's. I am SO glad I did. The place absolutely lives up to its hype--excellent food, service, and culture. My best friend is a Sicilian from Queens and I thought I was back at her house. We arrived at 11:35 am and the place was packed to the hills. The front staff was very accommodating and professional. We went to the quaint deli/market next door and purchased a few items. Employees were very endearing there as well. The wait wasn't too bad and once we were seated, it was smooth sailing. We did not feel rushed at all. read more
This place is a local legend. Going strong since 1910. Somehow I kept forgetting to post a review. Well here it is. Absolutely Fabulous. Ambiance is warm and inviting. Food is Amazing with so many delicious choices. The lines tell the tale. Always bustling and busy. Servers are kept on their toes, but work together for great service and making you feel welcome and comfortable. Hubby and I adore the sausage with meat sauce app. Meat sauce flavor is rich and silky, and the sausage is wonderfully seasoned. Topped with a perfect amount of cheese shavings. I always get a tongue plate for one. It's vibrant and tender just right to add to your sliced bread. The rotating sandwich's and sampler plates are creative and oh so crave worthy. They have a venue next door for special events. Been to a couple of their party's and no one leaves hungry or unhappy. Tucked in between the restaurant and venue is their Deli, full of ready to go foods, spices, sauces, gifts and Full Deli Counter. Set some time aside, grab some friends, and see what Family traditions and generations of experience can deliver. Every year during the holiday season I look forward to the peppermint pie! you can order it whole or if you're dining in you can order by the slice! you can even get some from the gift shop which my household did and we ordered ahead so that we could bring this to our Christmas celebrations and every year, the family loves this pie! Keep frozen if you're storing it beforehand because it does have ice cream. honestly every bite is filled with ice cream and peppermint greatness and is delicious! i think about this pie every year and i forego all other desserts present if a Luigi's peppermint pie is present! read more

Luigi's is probably the top restaurant in Bakersfield. I can't think of anything that comes close. I've had multiple things across the menu and nothing has disappointed thus far. The wait tends to be quite long and to any new patron that should be a good sign. Kill time and sit by their bar inside and outside! The drink costs aren't crazy and they work very quickly. The staff is very helpful and they're very open to customizing your experience. They'll even tell you the best way to do it. You'll see the many ways I've customized my meals both below and in my photos! Nicco's Steak and Pasta - I get this glorious slab of steak probably a third of the times I visit. Most of the time they are done to my particular liking with one instance where I considered it overdone. For a few bucks extra they can add some gorgonzola cheese melted on top of the steak for more savor. As with all the dishes you can even swap out the pasta! Truffle Sacchetti - Heavy flavor bombs. If you're getting this you'd need to some bread to scoop up oil and clean up your plate cause it's just that good. On the expensive side as far as pastas go, plus it doesn't have any protein. I recommend getting this as a side to your meals instead of getting it by itself. Ribs - A special on the weekends. I think this is the greatest bang for your buck. They offer a half rack and a full rack for $10 more. I gotta tell ya, you'd have to be crazy hungry to finish a full rack. If you find that the ribs are lacking in flavor, I highly suggest asking for some barbecue sauce and they will happily give it to you for no extra charge. The sauce is sweet and tangy just like typical barbecue sauces. Lasagna - Another special. Something about this is just so good. Great amount of ricotta, humongous serving, enough to share or even take home. The sandwiches in general are all pretty good, I've tried a few of them but I think the selections above are what makes this place special. Every single one of my meals here are memorable and you can tell other locals feel the same way judging by how busy this place is every day! Want anything they serve at the comfort of your home? The food itself was really good , flavorful, well-prepared, and definitely what you'd expect from a solid Italian spot. I ordered catering/takeout for an event totaling a little over $400, so the quality of the food was appreciated and enjoyed. That said, the service unfortunately fell short. When I called to place the catering order, the person on the phone was unhelpful and came across as rude. I had reviewed the menu beforehand and asked a few reasonable questions about catering. When I politely said "thank you so much for your help" and was mid-sentence saying goodbye, she hung up without responding, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. When I arrived to pick up the food, everything was packed in what looked like shipping/Costco-style boxes. While that alone wasn't a dealbreaker, I did ask if some of the items that would get cold could be placed in the appropriate catering/takeout containers that I've seen them provide to other customers. I was told they could do one, but that proper catering containers require an "extra large" order. Although my order wasn't in the thousands, it was still a significant catering purchase -- and with a 30-minute drive home, much of the food ended up getting cold. Overall, the food was good, but the customer service !!especially over the phone!! was disappointing. I've had better catering/takeout experiences with other Italian restaurants in town that were more accommodating and communicative. I might consider ordering again if the service improves or if I place a larger order, but for now, the service left a lot to be desired. read more
Luigi's is a great place to meet up with friends and have a meal together. I love the outside patio the most. The photos I added are at Luigi's warehouse event center and the event we went to was the Fencing gala put on my Luigi's and Kern Athletic Fencing Foundation. It was so much fun and the food that Luigi's brought out was fabulous. I couldn't get enough of it. I can't wait to come back for lunch and try some other options they have. read more

Luigis is Bakersfield famous! It's such a staple that our family braved standing in line on their busiest day of the year (the Saturday before Christmas) for lunch here. Reservations/Walk-Ins: They do take reservations but they can be difficult to get and must be booked far in advance. Since we had missed the reservation window, we came early to stand in line to get our name on the walk-in list. We were advised that anyone in the line at opening would get to eat there, but the wait time would vary. We arrived around 10:15am and the line was already around the block. A little before 11am, they started to seat guests and take names for the waitlist. We were quoted 2-2.5 hours. We decided to grab a drink at the Padre nearby rather than go home, which ended up being key. Stay close by in the area. We were called around 1.25 hours after we checked in. They give you 5 minutes to arrive. Atmosphere: Luigis is a lively spot! There were so many folks celebrating the holidays. We saw a table full of santas and a large group that took over almost the entire main dining room the long way! This is the spot to gather with friends, do some day drink and dig into good food. If you're looking for a quiet meal, this isn't the place for you. Food: The food is simple but delicious! I got the sandwich and pasta combo, which I think is absolutely the way to go. The sandwich was a nice cold cut italian and I enjoyed the pasta with red sauce. My father in law got a juicy steak sandwich. Everyone who took a bite of it immediately wished they had gotten it because of how soft and tender the meat was. We had to finish off the meal with a butterfinger pie! Store: If one meal isn't enough to get your fix, there is a grocery store next door where they sell their pastas and jarred sauces to take home! Luigis is a must try experience in Bakersfield. Luigis is a staple in Old Town Kerns, Bakersfield. My broworker's Nona approves so I know Luigis is as authentic as it gets without flying to Italy. Reservations highly recommended, they were pretty busy when we came by for lunch on a Wednesday. The weather was lovely so we decided to sit outside to enjoy the sunshine. Cassie took great care of us the whole time we were there. The menu was glorious with so many delicious options to pick from. My bro boss ordered their Truffle App ($17.50/small) for the four of us to share. It comes with a sliced loaf of sourdough for you to dip into the delicious sauce. This truffle app is like glorious pasta truffle purses. SO DELICIOUS. As for our entrees, I focused on the lunch specials to help myself narrow things down. I decided on their half order of Lasagna ($13.75) and my broworkers all got their Cole's Steak Sandwich ($24.95/each) which comes with thinly sliced ny steak with grilled onions and pepperjack cheese in a toasted soft roll. Okay okay maybe I should have confirmed and gotten that too, but my lasagna was really delicious. The half portion was still a mighty size and I easily got food coma after my meal. It was a good thing they had a cute gift shop with Italian imports as well as local Bakersfield goods for purchase. We picked out some thoughtful gifts to make gift baskets for our clients. I really love the family-vibes I get from the business both on the restaurant side and the giftshop side. I know this will be my first of many many visits to Luigis. I am definitely a fan and looking forward to coming back to try more of their menu. read more
Just a quick review update! Luigi's continues to give great service and delicious meals! On my most recent trip I decided to try the hot pastrami sandwich. It was delicious! My friend had a stuffed shell Florentine and a watermelon salad. Everything was delicious as always! read more
We went for lunch. The food was really good and fresh. Service was the best. Our drinks were refilled before we even got halfway through and our waitress checked on us regularly. The inside is so fun with pictures all over the walls. A very fun place to eat with delicious food. I just had a small, salad and my grandson had a burger. Next time, we will have to try the pasta! read more
