Lucy's is my local pho go to and has been for years. They have a deep and flavorful broth with great tender brisket in their Brisket Pho. Their summer rolls and peanut sauce are fresh and tasty. I moved out of NYC almost 2 years ago and I still dream about the vegan ginger chick'n pho. No one does it better.

This isn't the most traditional it is definitely Texas inspired so the pho has brisket in it and it's a bit more greasy and heavy than what is normal. The space is tiny so I wouldn't expect to be able to dine in unless you're very lucky and there's no one else but the servers are very nice and helpful. read more

This was my second time ordering from Lucy's. I believe the first time I ordered from the Williamsburg location. I had remembered it being pretty good, though not authentic. I was a big fan of their Vietnamese coffee last time (it comes bottled) so if you are in search of some Vietnamese coffee, I would recommend! This time, I was less satisfied with my experience. I ordered the brisket summer rolls and the brisket bun. My issues were with the quality/flavor of the meat. The brisket itself had chunks of fat which were not super appetizing and additionally, there was little to no flavor on the brisket. This was odd considering when I ordered from the Williamsburg location I thought the brisket was delicious (which is why I ordered it again). I had to really load on the hoisin sauce and sriracha, but with those I thought it was good. I really stand by the fact that this place is not super authentic-- that isn't necessarily a ding, but if you are in search of authentic Vietnamese food, I don't think this is the spot for you. read more

I have a rule! If somewhere makes something that's the best you've ever had, it gets an auto 5 star. As a vegetarian I've eaten vegan pho all over. It normally, infamously, sucks. But this spot makes the best vegan pho I've ever had. The broth is fragrant, well-spiced, and umami! The veggies are plentiful. Only criticism is that the tofu is cut way too thick (see pic), but that's nitpicking! I really liked it a lot, and can't remember eating a better one. I also got one vegan chickn summer roll (which was meh, I didn't like the texture of the chikn) and one tofu summer roll (which was tasty, but not best I've ever had). The broth here is actually lemongrassy but deep and also not bad. Flavorful.. I got the vermicelli w the broth on the side as an add on. The main meal was just ok, highlight on the brisket but everything else (mushroom bean sprouts cucumbers or cabbage) was eh, meh. The sauce for the vermicelli was good but didnt add much flavor. Eaten here a few times but prior to my most recent visit, it was before the pandemic. The pros, it's a good portion of noodles, broth, and brisket, I probably could've made it two meals. Price is reasonable for what you're getting, IMO. They have covered outside (no inside) seating with fans. Food comes quickly. The broth is vegan. Free water. Nice quality chopsticks. Loved the noodle texture. They have a rewards program for customers. The cons, the majority of my brisket was quite dry. I'm not sure how the brisket is stored after being smoked, but it seems like most of the moisture was lost. To be fair, I ordered around 8:30pm so it wasn't peak meal time and was probably sitting for a while. Everything is served in disposables. I was happy to see a paper bowl, at least, but the broth was served in a plastic container and the spoon was also plastic. I ordered to stay so would like to have seen dishes with my pho already assembled. The sauces all came in packets, too. The broth is vegan (pro and con), traditional pho is simmered bone broth which adds to flavor and nutritional profile. So, i was craving a banh mi sandwich and since I've had Lucy's on my list of places to try, and i was close by i decided to try them out. What i really was craving was a roast pork banh mi and i thought i would get it here. (No pork here sadly). I was surprised when i walked in and seen that this isn't what i imagined it to be. A little saddened that they didn't have a pork sandwich and my only options were brisket, lemongrass chicken and some kind of vegan option. The counter guy was very nice and welcoming, so although i wanted to go to another spot that seemed more authentic, we decided to try it out and see what it was hitting for. The service was amazing! I mean top tier! He gave us space to make our decisions with no pressure. It's a pretty small place. One counter guy and one cook. I got there around maybe 3pm. Super nice guy, we ordered our food we sat outside in their outdoor space since the indoor space had no seating. They built one of those benches and awnings in the street that was covered for people to eat there. Not bad. 2 picnic tables and a long bar like table for people to enjoy their meal.. now the food. 5 stars for service for sure For me, brisket isn't my favorite. It's good sometimes if it's seasoned well, and tender, it can be delicious. But more times than not, it's not lol. Here, the brisket was smoked and super tender. Easy to bite into. Didn't take much for it to fall apart. Not bad. It was just a bit bland. The sandwich was a bit dry too. It needed the hoisin and hot chili sauce or Sriracha sauce to elevate it to the next level. Once i added the sauce, it definitely upped the sandwich flavor for me a lot. The veggies weren't pickled enough to my like it, but they were okay. The bun was toasted, and it was a regular hero bread you can buy from the deli which also was just bland. But the sauces were needed for this sandwich and i honestly give it a cool 3.5 rating. Would i come back? Uhm... I'm not sure. There isn't much of a selection to be honest, and now that summer is coming, i wouldn't get the pho because it'll be too warm to eat it. Lol. I ate half the sandwich and saved the other half for later. I used maybe 3 packed of hoisin for each side and 1 full pack of siracha for each side as well. The saucier the better. If you're a fan of brisket, then i do think you'd love this sandwich. Personally, i expected more of a traditional banh mi sandwich so it wasn't what i expected it to be, and although the sandwich was good with the sauce, i still left craving that traditional sandwich. But, try them out and let me know what you think. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Lucy's. The space was small and the only seating available was the outdoor parklet for dining in. The scent of Pho can be had from outside the shop, which brings back many memories as a child for me. The menu offered a wide variety of standard Vietnamese dishes, including pho, banh mi and vermicelli bowls. I've tried out all 4 types of pho there (beef, chicken, ginger chik'n (vegan), and tofu. In all 4 instances, the broths and protein was rich and flavorful, with perfectly cooked noodles, and plentiful of protein in each order. First and foremost, the pho was outstanding. We got the beef brisket and the tofu and we were blown away. The tofu had a great firm texture and was infused with flavor. The brisket was super tender with fat that melts in your mouth. The broth felt a little light and different from the traditional pho broth. The outdoor tables were very cozy with nice natural light from clear panels of roof. On rainy days however, I probably would take out or deliver as they only have a couple counters inside. This is the OG Bushwick Lucy's location (a second spot has opened on Berry Street in Williamsburg). On a recent weekend I dined outside in the small outdoor enclosure. Deliveristas flitted in and out of the restaurant as I waited for my food. The brisket pho is a unique experience, expanding on the classic Vietnamese formula with the addition of smoked meat and lots of ground black pepper. The smoky brisket is reminiscent of barbecue and imparts a deep flavor upon the broth. There was also tons of meat in my bowl, like, an inexhaustible amount. The pho tasted very good, as did the banh mi my date ordered. I was a little disappointed that everything was served in to-go containers; a little bit wasteful and also a greater risk of making a mess while pouring the broth over the noodles. I understand that this is probably a pandemic measure and if it's best for the business that's fine. Personally, though, I would've liked a proper bowl and some higher quality utensils. Great value for the price and quite filling. Lucy's can definitely compete with Bushwick's other top Vietnamese spots like Bunker and Money Cat. I was in Brooklyn and had a taste for some Vietnamese food and checked Yelp. This spot stood out because of the ginger chicken I kept reading about in the reviews. The restaurant is small and more of takeout spot. It was one of those hot and humid days so I was very thankful for their working AC. I asked about the ginger chicken bahn mi and was informed it wasn't actually chicken. I was like huh, is this a vegetarian spot? LOL The guy was like no it's a vegetarian ginger chicken and I was a little annoyed since I was looking forward to tasting the meat. However, the cook asked me did I want to to try the vegan ginger and I agreed. Wow, wow and wow I am so happy I tried the sample because it was delicious and reminded me of well seasoned chicken with a little kick to it with the ginger. I ordered the bahn mi and remembered to tell them not to toast my bread. My sandwich was so hearty and flavorful and I couldn't believe I wasn't eating any meat. Ordered on seamless, paid 25$ asked for extra extra jalapeños and garnishes. Got a smoked brisket pho. Literally got a tiny tub with two mint leaves, a lime, and two jalapeños slices. I didn't even take a picture of the smear of hoison they gave me and one sriracha packet. Not only is this an overpriced hipster joint with smoke brisket pho, but you really got to be cheap on the garnishes?! I get times are tough but you're not gonna serve me a plate of French fries and give me one ketchup packet and expect me not to say anything. Traditionalists beware- Lucy's hallmark is their brisket pho, not exactly traditional. That said, some traditions are meant to be iterated upon. The brisket here is smoked for 14 hours - with a potent smokey and peppery flavor, the brisket submerged in the pho gives the broth a nice smokiness. Also veering off from tradition, Lucy's adds thinly sliced shitake mushrooms, chunks of bok choy and of course a generous helping of thick brisket to its bowl of perfectly cooked noodles. I'm also a fan of the chicken pho here (although I wish the pieces were sliced more thinly). Similar to the brisket pho, the chicken pho comes with a very generous serving of large chunks of dark chicken meat, shitake and bok choy. The broth is light (not greasy), aromatic and has a lot of depth. The space is small, so it's a bit of a crap shoot if you'll get a seat. Not sure if it's still BYOB, but it was BYOB when we first went almost a year ago. So out the way to try this rave about brisket pho and banhi mi. Indeed a very small cute joint. Only can sit 6 people in a communal table. There were still people sitting to eat and coming in and out for food. Counter girl still busy packing take out orders. Went around 10:30pm and ordered before hand. We waited 20 minutes for the food but got seats to sit first. Staff didn't bother to clean up the table before we sat down while she was just sitting down behind the counter. Water was self serve. Heres what we had: Brisket pho: we so good. Broth and brisket was so flavorful. A definite have. Brisket banh mi- was only ok. Brisket was flavorful but definitely lack the authenticity taste of a true banh mi. Its just more like a brisket sandwich. The bean sprout on the sandwich did nothing to the taste of but a mess. We ended up putting it in our pho. The pickled carrots and turnips were bland. I would skip the sandwich and just go for the pho. We wanted to try their chicken but was out of it. Too bad. Tofu and shitaki mushrooms summer roll- was very good and refreshing. Just enough ingredients. Love the basil in it. Peanut butter sauce married it. So good. I would recommend trying. Overall food was good and service was ok as, she v did offer to take a picture for us but the price of our meal did not composite for it. $35 meal for a $14 pho and $14 fake banh mi, $7 summer roll was not worth it. *Delivery review only* Last night I enjoyed one of the best bowls of pho I've had in a long time. There's really only one thing to get at Lucy's, and it's the smoked brisket pho. Huge, tender, pepper-crusted pieces of beef in an umami-rich vegan broth with alliums, mushrooms, and bok choy. The thin rice noodles were plentiful but broke easily...so less prolonged slurping. If you're getting this delivered, I'd recommend reheating the broth separately, then adding the noodles, and lastly the beef and your chosen amount of bean sprouts, jalapeno, lime, and basil. I made the mistake of heating up the brisket and the broth together, which made the latter very peppery. No questions asked, when I'm in the area and craving soup, Lucy's is going to be my go-to! read more
