Inside Lucy's Cafe North in El Paso. Open, clean, and friendly environment.

A friend and I were cruising up Dyer St. in El Paso when we decided to embark at Lucy's Cafe North for lunch. Although the parking lot at this bistro is not large the restaurant itself is bigger inside than you would anticipate from looking at it from the outside. There are a lot of comfortable booths and many wood tables and chairs in an open and clean environment. Although it is called "Lucy's" all the staff as far as I could see were men. Everyone was welcoming and pleasant. The service overall was very good. Lucy's menu is diverse enough to please any palate and prices are quite reasonable. Today I ordered "Lucy's Famous Machaca Plate" and my friend ordered the Chimichanga Plate. While waiting for our food the waiter brought a smallish basket of chips and a bowl of salsa verde to the table. He soon returned with a bowl of a light tomato soup with fideo. That was not mentioned on the menu as I recall but it was free of charge. The chips were fine and the salsa verde was really up there on the heat scale. It was one of the spiciest salsas I've been served in a restaurant. Rate the soup a "B" with its nice mild flavor and the salsa a "B" also. Within twelve minutes or so our food arrived. I found the Spanish rice to be prepared really well, fluffy and with good flavor. The refried beans had a nice flavor and consistency. Rate the rice and beans both a "B+." My machaca was excellent. The shredded beef mixed with chopped tomatoes, onion, and an egg was covered with a delicious chile con queso that was made in heaven. Lucy's Cafe really knows how to season their food. The beef was juicy and not dried out like in many other places. The seasoning was exquisite. This machaca was so good! Rate it an "A." My friend's chimichanga plate arrived with two smallish chimis and rice, refried beans, and a bit of salad. She ordered her chimis with beef and they had the same delicious shredded beef that comprised my machaca. A bit of sour cream topped one chimi and guacamole the other. She said her chimichangas were both excellent. So, a nice place with really pleasant and efficient service, a broad menu with reasonable prices, and really good upper level Mexican food. Today's food was some of the most flavorful Mexican food I've had in awhile. Rate today's overall dining experience FOUR AND A HALF STARS for excellent. Can't wait to return.

Wonderful place with great prices. Great for kids as there are many breakfast and lunch options. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive.

This is definitely a little hidden gem in the NE and I'm so glad we tried it. I eventually realized this is the famous Lucys but their NE location (duh me). We wanted some breakfast and they delivered. The staff was fast and attentive and the food came out nice and hot. They served us chips and salsa and a little bowl of fideo (soup) before our meal (I thought it was odd since it was breakfast but then again why not). The prices are so reasonably priced, wish I would have gotten a menu pic. They even have a mini breakfast for like $4.99 that I'm very intrigued to order next time. Give them a try and support local!

Great service. Friendly environment. The food was okay for the price. The machaca is pretty good.

I had a question about something on the menu and the guy behind the bar was able to answer quickly. I ordered one of their seasonal drinks, a coconut cold brew. I just got it black with the coconut cold foam and it really hit the spot! I only ordered the 16oz, but I kind of wish I had gotten the larger size. No one was inside and there was one other car in the drive through line. I tell them I have a pickup order for Mandy, they hand it to me, I drive the whole way home. Now, I get it. It's my own fault, I should have checked the box, but I literally ordered 6 vanilla sprinkles donuts. How hard is that to get right? Apparently it just is because I ended up with 6 of the wrong donuts. Whatever. No biggie. My daughter is just having a mental breakdown because I don't have her favorite donuts. So I call to try to reorder the right donuts. I thought maybe I could ask if they would deliver since I had already been out. Well, I called THREE times and it rang and rang until it went to voicemail. I know there were like 5-7 employees there (because I drove my ass back and went inside) and not one of them could answer the phone? That's some bullshit. Anyway, I go inside and they all just kinda look at me like I'm stupid when I explain the mistake. The girl who helped me didn't really say anything, just took the old box from me and handed me a new one, then I left. I got home and the donuts are just noticeably old and dry. The whole experience was just disappointing. I don't mean to sound like a Karen, but I've worked in food and customer service. If I messed something up, I'd be super apologetic, refund you, and give you your order anyway. And at least offer to let you keep the food I messed up cause it's unservable. They have an excellent assortment of foods from donuts to bagels to kolaches to other breakfast sammys to crazy fruit flavored juices and coffees. The ambiance of this new location is very modern and fun to keep up with the hip styles these days. It was very exciting to see upon walking in and I'll admit, although I prefer Krispy Kreme, I don't mind a fun donut stop like this only a block away. The service was very odd. I opted to stop in shop because I didn't feel like waiting in a drive thru that already looked packed on a Sunday afternoon. Plus, I can actually view the donuts of my choosing which I find comfort in. There was a good amount of staff managing the counter, drive thru, and donut supply in the back. I would estimate about 6 or so, which seemed sufficient as it was a considerably smaller location. There was a young looking kid, probably high school manning the counter. After he finished with the customer in front of me, I approached the counter and waited awkwardly long before he even acknowledged me or anything. He kept looking around the store as if he was checking for something to happen and after this awkward dance for about half a minute, he finally noticed me looking at him and waiting. He then asked what can he get me. I ordered what was left of the munchkins, as i overheard the donut crew say the glazed ones were all that was left. As he started punching buttons, I also said, a chocolate glaze. Evidently he seemed thrown off by the munchkins order be because he asked if I wanted 5 or 10. There were about 7 of the glazed and I also saw a blueberry one, so I said 10. He then asked if I wanted anything else, which I repeated chocolate glaze and three in a blueberry cake since he was still taking a full order anyway. He got my two regular donuts and proceeded to box the munchkins. He only threw in the 7 glazed and closed the box. I clarified, "is that 10?" To which he answered, "no, that's why i was asking." I was a bit annoyed but clarified to throw in the blueberry then and he then said they had more blueberry ones in the back. I said, "Yes please, whatever makes it 10." He grabbed a couple more from the donut racks, practically dropped my box in front of me, and closed out my order without another word. I asked, "am i good?" He then looked up and just gave me a small head nod and looked away again. I gave him the same courtesy and just walked away. Most awkward transaction over a box of donuts holes ever. Can't complain though as I barely broke $5 for all 10 munchkins and two donuts. I may just settle for the drive thru after all lol.
