I think I decided to come here because of the name. After leaving and heading down the road I wish I would have saved my time for a few other breweries we passed. It's essentially a house converted into a little pub and I guess the brewery is in the barn. There's a nice shaded area out front but we headed for the view out back on the small deck. Music was too loud. Beer tender wasn't the friendliest. I had the only dark option, their stout, and it was okay, but nothing special. Maybe the mood was spoiled by all the drunk girls on their bachelorette party, yelling at each other like they were deaf. The place has a lot of potential, but even as you drive up you see junk in the windows and not a very imaginative decor. They need some women with style to help spruce the place up. read more

Stopped in twice week this week at their Hector place while touring the finger lakes. Good beer. Live Action- you know, like Erine the turtle man- didn't disappoint. Real drinkable stuff. Mmm. First day was greeted by two very friendly and helpful girls tending the bar. They went out of her way to let me try what I wanted. Knocked back two Live actions and my partner enjoyed some Hector Wine Company juice. Stopped back day two and tried the falcon punch- got some live action cans to go (great beer). So why the two stars? Well dude tending bar day two could have cared less if I was there or not. To be honest it was awkward. Yeah, I get it, I'm not a local. Not in the "scene". Not up on what ever issue is hot around the area. I'm an outsider. Got it. But give a hoot man. You're in a tourist area. Otherwise- this place is a local hang out. Hope you like f'bombs. Evidentially if you're local to Hector NY, you can't carry on a conversation without at least one F'in this or that per sentence. Let alone listening to stories about pissing the bed. Just saying gang- beer is real good and the view is great. Hell and I drop the f'bomb with the rest of them. But be prepared for a new level with these locals. Beer is 5 stars. Updating my review as I have been lucky enough to visit on an almost monthly basis, sometimes even more often. The Lucky Hare may just be the best craft/local brewery in the Finger Lakes. The beer selection is regularly up to eight no matter when visiting and they rotate will such frequency that there is never an old beer. This past weekend weekend they were tapping two or three different beers within a day or two of each other. There is even a weekly beer release schedule to keep up with seasonal tastes. On top of all of that you will not find a friendlier group of people. Owners and brewers Rich and Ian do a fantastic job and can be seen everyday of the week both in the brewing barn or in the tasting room. Most days I happen to have Hanna(h?) and Regan pouring beers and they are both superb. Heck if you play your cards right you might even run into Mr. Buddy (for whom a beer is named). Have I mentioned the food yet? Beer bread with cheese dip, tacos with habanero, buffalo chicken grilled cheese sandwiches! I'd rent a room above the tasting room if they'd let me. read more

My wife and I stopped here on our first visit to the Finger Lakes region. I had a flight which I enjoyed the Live Action Mosaic Smash the best and she had a pint of the Ross Ross Baby. We both thought the beers were great. The only downfall was that it was very crowded since it was a nice Friday and people kept walking up the bar and getting served before the line of people behind them. Lucky Hare is my favorite micro brewery. Period. I've never had a beer there that didn't have its own unique character. There are three other breweries nearby. Here's my take on the four, which all have solid indoor and outdoor seating options and are dog friendly: Lucky Hare: Best beer. And best beer anywhere. Decent food. Grist Iron: Best Food, especially the pizzas and the Mac and cheese bowls. Decent beer. Dogs have lots of room to run. Two Goats: Best view. Overlooking Seneca Lake at sunset alone is worth the trip. The restaurant had just started doing food the very day we came in but we didn't try anything. They pride themselves on using local ingredients in their dishes so I'm sure the menu is superb and I cannot wait to come back and try it out. Back to the beers, holy toledo, delicious. Each flight tasting kept me wanting more and more. I could not get enough of the coffee beer, it was seriously sensational. SO MUCH FLAVOR. The people who work here are cool, friendly and knowledgable about all of their products. The place is small, real small, but quaint, cozy and they have a back deck/grass area. The place is set away from the lake a bit so don't come here expecting breathtaking views. Could be easily mistaken for someone's home, but that's what makes this place that much better! A very unpretentious little brewery, that's pet-friendly, and full of what seemed like locals (which says a lot). We walk in around 8pm, knowing that they close within an hour, due to a recommendation from some other people we were talking with at a prior brewery we were at down the street. They mentioned the beers are great and we had to check it out - and so glad we met them and ended up coming here. The bar is tiny, but we were able to snag two seats and hung out there the rest of the night, as the back porch was completely packed. The bartender was extremely nice and chatted with us all night, in addition to the few other people who were coming in and out of the main room. We tried many of their beers, all of which were super tasty. It was getting late and we forgot to order any food, but one of the other guys was more than happy to whip up a grilled cheese and pretzel twists for us, which was extremely nice. I always forget how good of a combo grilled cheese + beer is, and this was no different. This felt like a homey brewery, where you can just sit back, have a beer, and chill. So if your looking for a decent beer and don't care about where you are then this is the place for you. Order your beer and bag of pretzels then walk to weird barn. When you walk in smells like musty wood and bleach there's a dog walking around begging for food, sit down at a table which was just cleaned with bleach( and smells that way). As previous reviewers have said, the beer here is truly phenomenal. My personal favorite is one called the London gentleman, but I've never had a bad beer here. And I don't actually like beer that much. The food is delicious too, although almost everything is made with pork, so if you don't eat pork, eat before you get here. Or drink your meal. read more

This is a small, new brewing company with a tasting room/bar and a patio with a view of the lake. It looks like a renovated farm house with the first floor turned into the tasting room outfitted with a beautiful hardwood bar. They had about 6 beers to choose from. All of them were exceptional even if I wasn't a fan of the style of beer. It seems as though their primary motive is a genuine passion for brewing rather than just trying to make a few bucks off of wine trail traffic. It's already way better than most other finger lakes area beer and holds its own compared to national craft beer heavy weights in my opinion. Lucky Hare offers a nice range of beers, from the hoppy Falcon Punch to the sweeter, darker Milk Milk. Although we live 2 hours away, we make Lucky Hare our destination several times a year. Beer was good the first visit - Milk Stout on Nitro. Now they no longer make that specific beer and the female bartender was rude when asked about why they no longer make it. Fantastic brews and food! This place completely exceeded my expectations. My husband and I shared a flight of 8 beers and the combo plate of tacos, a take and beans; it was all top-notch! All of the beers were delicious. The Kolg standard, falcon punch IPA, and live action were my favorites. I am usually a fan of stouts, but theirs was a little dark/ bitter for me.
