    Front entrance - wow!

What a beautiful spot! Very sad we didn't bring our dogs as they are super dog friendly with their own par. No food was had either, but the pizzas, wings & giant pretzels are always a staple at a brewery & looks awesome. The band wasn't too loud but still could listen, families & bachelorette parties alike were enjoying the evening.

What an absolutely stunning location and view! Headed out to have dinner here with the family. They had a great selection of beer and the menu was very good as well! We had a pizza and it did not disappoint. There was also live music that evening, which was a bonus!

Great service and beers, food could use a little help here. We didn't have the stamina to try ALL the beers in 1 night but we tried! We started off with a flight and as soon as the beertender heard it was my husbands birthday, she gave us a token for a free pint! We stayed for a few hours sampling the different beers, all of them yummy but especially the PB stout! Eventually we got hungry and opted for the nachos, which were u fortunately disappointing especially for $20. The serving was a little small, toppings were lacking and the chips and meat not even warm but room temperature at best. We'd return to finish off checking the beers off our list to taste, but probably eat before we come.

We finally got to try our first brewery, and it was a great experience this time around. Last time, there was a four-hour wait--definitely pays to go when it's cold! I started with the Campfire Lite beer, a solid choice at 6.2% ABV, but then I sampled the Lake Life IPA aged in a Rye Whiskey barrel... and damn, it tasted like a Rye Ale. The barrel aging really brought out some incredible flavors, and I loved how well it complemented the beer. Great stop. Cheers!

My husband and I decided to stop here and check it. We kept on seeing advertisements and then looking at the photos online. The priced of the beer were really expensive $9 each, for thar price we could had easily had gotten a 4 pack of their beer that they sell on site, but oh well we wanted to try other ones. Their flight was 4 samples of $12, which I found to be very expensive too. My husband and I decided to get food. I decided to get the loaded Mac and chesse, which was very delicious, and my husband got the Chicken Bacon and Ranch sandwich. My husband and I absolutely love the outlook of the lake it looks absolutely amazing. I would highly recommend coming here and checking this spot and definitely sitting outside for a view and relaxing.

This was one of our top spots we did on our finger lake tour! The options for beer and wine were awesome, everyone was happy with their choices. The outdoor space was really nice and servers were great! The food really made it the best option for a quick lunch during our wine tours. We ordered two pizzas, fries, and a pretzel with beer cheese. It was just perfect for our group and we crushed it all! Adding this spot to our regular list when in the area!

My in laws visited Grist Iron during their recent trip to the Finger Lakes, and they couldn't stop raving about the beer! They brought home some of their seasonal pumpkin beers for us to try, and after enjoying those, we knew Grist Iron was a must-stop on our own trip to FLX. Luckily, the brewery was pretty close to our airbnb, so we stopped in for beers and dinner one night. The brewery sits back a bit from the road, but it is on a massive piece of land that has beautiful views. We were surprised to see that they also have lodging onsite (noted for next time)! We walked around the grounds for a minute before heading inside to order. The brewery itself is also quite large, with a large bar, plentiful seating, and a small gift shop. I can see Grist Iron being a solid spot during any weather with all the space they have! Their beer offerings were so fun - which I could have guessed after loving their pumpkin beer so much. It was hard to pick which to get! I ultimately tried their blood orange blonde and their That's My Jam! mixed berry sour. Both were so flavorful and perfect for the start of summer (we visited over MDW), but I particularly liked the blonde since the blood orange flavor was sooo strong and made for a great brew! My husband, an IPA lover, chose the Juicy Way IPA and Lake Life IPA, which he also enjoyed, favoring the Juicy Way for its bomb of flavor. Since as mentioned in previous reviews for FLX restaurants / breweries, options for food after 5PM are quite limited, so we were pleased the Grist Iron did have a menu through the evening. To pair with our beers, I got the brisket sandwich, my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and we split both. The buns were hearty enough to encase the goodies of the sandwich, yet still fluffy enough to not overwhelm the taste. The meats on both sandwiches were substantial and cooked nicely. I loved that the briskey featured a barbeque sauce made with their own IPA but appreciated that the sauce didn't overwhelm the sandwich. I also enjoyed the Carolina take on the pulled pork, with the feature of vinegar and coleslaw atop the sandwich. Both were solid sandwiches! I just wish the menu had *slightly* more variety. We loved sipping our brews and enjoying our sandwiches while watching the sunset over Seneca Lake. Grist Iron would be an appropriate place to take a family since they have the ample outdoor space and lawn games set up. I can easily see ourselves revisiting with family, friends, or just the 2 of us again. We had a great evening at Grist Iron - I'm glad my in laws put them on our radar, and I'm glad we had a chance to visit ourselves!

We stopped for a quick drink while perusing Seneca Lake. The guys wanted to take a break from the wine and get some beer. This place didn't disappoint. Lots of beer options and the cider I had was pretty tasty. The bar is huge and there is a lot of seating. There is food served here but we didn't try it. The bartenders here are really awesome! Check in on Yelp gets you "one free high five from a bartender"!! I took advantage of that!!

What a great place. Atmosphere is amazing, especially at sunset time! Brews were great and the food was delicious - especially the soft pretzel with beer cheese!

Perfect Sunday afternoon here... Lively music (Dylan Doyle Band playing great tunes), good food options, tasty flights of beer, and the patio was perfect on a warm day. Highly recommend.

Great sunset views! Excellent lodging! A little disappointed that there was no live music because the band person canceled last minute. They said it would be over an hour wait for food and it was about 10 minutes so they were completely off on that. Honey chicken pizza was delicious and would've been worth the wait if we had to wait.

Came here over a holiday weekend when it was hootttt. We had our dog in tow and this was such a great place to cool off and hang. They have outdoor seating but they also had indoor seating with like the walls open? It allowed us to sit in a semi air conditioned area with our dog which was perfect. Also they have a beautiful view of seneca lake. Just all around good vibes. While cooling off we ended up ordering a flight of 4 beers. I felt like these were some of the better beers I had in the area. I really liked their Bikini Bottom Bomb beer and bought a six pack to take with me. It was really pineapplely. If I ever come back to the Watkins Glen area I will definitely be stopping back at this brewery.

We had the chance to try some great beers, and one unique experience stood out: mixing two beers together, a concept similar to a blend in the wine world. As the bartender put it, "It's a game we like to play." On tap, they had a solid lineup: 1. Hector Logger - A traditional lager (4.9% ABV) 2. Goatmaster Kölsch - A crisp Kölsch (5.1% ABV), which I tried and really enjoyed 3. RedBeard - A Red Ale (5% ABV), a reliable go-to beer 4. Cream Ale - A bit different at 6.7% ABV, more robust than the typical lower-ABV versions 5. Golden Crush - A hazy IPA (5.1% ABV) that had nice fruit-forward notes, but not overpowering 6. X IPA - An Imperial IPA (7.8% ABV) Mosaic! Mosaic! - A Pale Ale (5.2% ABV) that followed the traditional pale ale profile and was very enjoyable 7. Goatmeal Stout - An Oatmeal Stout (8.1% ABV) Then came the blends--something I hadn't seen much of before. The only one I tried was 1. Goat Juice, a 50/50 mix of Hazy IPA and Kölsch (5.1% ABV). It was bursting with amazing flavors, the best of both worlds. Some of their other blends included: 2. Red X - A mix of Red Ale and Imperial IPA 3. Goatgasm - A Kölsch and IPA blend 4. Headbutt - A Stout and Cream Ale combo I tend to gravitate toward Hazies, Kölsches, and Pale Ales, so this place hit all the right notes for me. I can't wait to come back and see what new creations they have on tap next time!

Our next stop of the day took us to our first distillery visit of the trip, and wow--Finger Lakes…read moreDistilling did not disappoint. What surprised us most? This was our very first time visiting, and we hadn't even realized they had been established since 2007! Knowing that they had been perfecting their craft for over 17 years, we were eager to dive into the tasting experience and see what they had to offer. The tasting room had a laid-back yet polished feel, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff ready to guide us through their lineup of small-batch, handcrafted spirits. The distillery prides itself on using locally sourced grains and fruits, and you could tell from the first sip that quality and attention to detail were at the heart of their process. The Tasting Lineup I opted for a tasting of four different spirits, and after enjoying those, I was encouraged to try two more--a bonus that made the experience even better. Here's what I sampled: 1 Straight Bourbon - This was beautifully balanced, with sweet corn and vanilla upfront, followed by a warming spicy rye kick on the finish. Smooth yet complex, it was a fantastic introduction to their bourbon lineup. 2 Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon - A true standout, this one had rich caramel and toasted oak flavors, along with the perfect balance of spice and warmth. Aged for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof, it had a bold yet refined character that made it easy to appreciate. 3 McKenzie Straight Rye - If you're a fan of rye whiskey, this one is for you. It had that signature spicy rye bite, but what really made it unique was the sweet sherry cask finish, adding a layer of richness and complexity that lingered beautifully. 4 Bottled-in-Bond Rye - One of the most interesting pours of the day, this rye was bursting with flavors of chocolate, nougat, and dried red fruit. The influence of the barrel aging was prominent, giving it a decadent, almost dessert-like quality while still holding onto its classic rye spice. After those four, I couldn't resist trying two additional spirits: 5 Apple Brandy (Aged 10 Years) - A masterfully aged apple brandy that showcased deep, caramelized apple flavors, balanced with warm baking spices and oak influence. The 10 years in the barrel really allowed this spirit to develop incredible depth and smoothness. 6 Grappa - This was an unexpected favorite--simply sensational. Grappa can sometimes be overpowering, but this one was smooth, refined, and packed with rich grape flavors, making it one of the best versions I've tried. Taking a Piece of Finger Lakes Distilling Home While every single pour was impressive, the one that stood out the most for me was the Straight Bourbon--so much so that I had to bring a bottle home. It reminded me of a classic Rye Whiskey, with just enough spice to keep things interesting but smooth enough to sip neat. Final Thoughts Finger Lakes Distilling far exceeded expectations, and I can't believe it took us this long to visit! With their commitment to quality, incredible range of spirits, and inviting tasting experience, this is a must-visit for anyone exploring the Finger Lakes region--whether you're a bourbon lover, rye enthusiast, or just appreciate finely crafted spirits. It was the perfect stop to break up a day of wineries and breweries, offering something distinctly different yet equally enjoyable. Next time, I'd love to stay a little longer, maybe sip on a whiskey cocktail and take in the atmosphere even more. Cheers to great whiskey and new discoveries!

Had tried their McKensie bourbon at a bar or top and liked it, so was happy that it was on the itinerary of our wine and spirits tour. The space, like most wineries/distilleries/breweries up here, overlooks a lake (Seneca in this case) which is very scenic. Inside of the place was very nice and the staff could not be friendlier. I can't underscore the importance of the latter. Selection here is awesome. Some places make 2 bourbons and call themselves a distillery. These guys do whiskey, gin, vodka, varietals and other specialty stuff. I focused on the whiskeys which were awesome. I can see why these guys have won so many medals. I tried the small batch, cannoli infused bourbon, applejack, rye, straight bourbon, bottled in bond, single malt and Applejack. Everything was at least noteworthy. Single malt was awesome, which is the biggest thing I look for as the true test of a distillery. They had just started making the applejack, and it one of these best I've tried. People don't what the hell this is, but it's basically cider-based whiskey; it's great for cooking, drinking and was the first American-invented spirit going back to colonial times. Don't sleep on it. Only one I wish I had tried was the pot stilled, but I had enough to know it's probably good. I took home the applejack and the single malt, as those are really my go to's, however there was a lot worth trying. Also nice to see them offer number of cool cocktail options for those less inclined to drink pure alcohol. We ended the visit with some cigars infused with their cordials, which were an awesome surprise. This place is destination worthy. People think of wine when they think Finger Lakes, but there's more up here than that. This places exemplifies that. Will be back, and will buy their stuff locally.

There are a few really good breweries in the area and Scale House is right up there with them. They have a spacious covered deck and a great lawn area, so their outdoor seating is excellent. They have an outdoor stage and we were fortunate to get to see some of the local talent performing the afternoon we were there. The inside area is also pretty roomy for a brewery and has more of the industrial/earthy feel that I dig, rather than a contemporary vibe. They also have a built-in pizza shop and it appears as though many patrons go there as much for the pizza as the beer. My one regret from our trip is that I didn't take advantage of the opportunity to grab a pie there...it looked fantastic. This, along with being served at room temperature, is a major difference from other beer I learned. The cask ales are naturally carbonated giving it a milder, less harsh, and maybe flatter taste. The Good: The history of the John Alden designed schooner is worth reading before you go. We had some more "salty" members of our group that recognized the name of the schooner from the 1956 movie "High Society" starring Bing Crosby, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra and after that we were on board for a wonderful time. We even were seated in the seats once occupied by Gene and Bing. We purchased our tickets after being approached by Terry who negotiated a decent price with us because he wanted a full boat for the next trip. Captain Bill was an experienced Captain and is well known in the area. He got us underway and was a delightful host regaling us with stories about the "True Love", Seneca Lake and surroundings, as well as, some stories about racing the "True Love" and his crew, Spencer and Marena. Captain Bill even assisted another sailing boat that was in distress and precariously close to the lake edge. The trip was two hours long and on time. The crew served non-alcoholic and adult beverages (some free, some for a price) while underway and also sold some souvenirs (Whisky and glasses). The Bad: There was nothing bad, from start to finish, this was a very enjoyable trip and the crew definitely enjoyed sharing their love of the "Trie Love" with the joyful passengers. The Ugly: Absolutely nothing other than we could not be out for longer. If you find yourself in Watkins Glen, this is definitely an enjoyable to kick back, relax, and let the wind fill your sails. They say a picture is worth 1000 words, so I am going to end my post with a few that we snapped along the way. May you have fair winds, and following lake waters!
