If you're in the mood for Chinese, look no further. Lucky China is your restaurant of choice!!! I've been eating here for over 20 years, and they have not once failed. I was reluctant to leave this post in hopes of keeping it a secret, but it's time to share this treasure. The same family from the 70's owns this restaurant which is now in their second generation of family owners, their children. Their cooking tastes like it's always tasted, extraordinary. No other ethnicities are in the kitchen cooking. To me, that says a lot about the continuity and quality of food. Trust me, this is not Panda Express with high school kids.... lol. This restaurant is authentic. Food: 5/5... my favorite is their Mongolian beef, peppered pork chops, and orange chicken. They are the best I've tasted (and I love eating Chinese). They have an old school menu with plenty to choose from, nothing disappoints. All is good. Service: 4/5... there are time where things get busy, this may cause some delays. But for the most part, food comes out hot and their family servers are working both kitchen and service. Price: 4/5.... They offer a family dinner special that serves 4 people.. two dishes, fried rice, chow mein, eggrolls, wonton soup, and fried wontonsz. A lot of quality food, for an amazing price. Rest of menu is decently priced. Food 5/5: here it is, the best in the South Bay. Hands down. Pick anything on the menu.. I'd say orange chicken, pepper fried pork chops, or Mongolia. However their sleeper dish is the "three meats king pao". All fire. Ambiance 3/5: No frills, or fluffs... basic Chinese restaurant seating. Nothing special with the ambiance... it's the food that counts. You won't be disappointed. read more

I was searching for Chinese restaurants nearby work and this one was 1.5 miles down the street so I decided to place a to go order (only phone orders accepted, no online and they don't participate with any food delivery services). They have lunch specials so I ordered the Kung Pao chicken for 13.99 which included egg drop soup, a fried wonton, and an egg roll! Depending upon your appetite, this could easily be two meals for light eaters. I also ordered a BBQ pork fried rice for mi amigo who loves it and it was the entire container (didn't take a pic). My KP chicken was good and satisfying. As for the restaurant. It's a good size with plenty of parking and a big dining area so you need not worry about waiting for a table. I had a lovely conversation with whom appeared to be one of the owners and she was so friendly! She apologized for the wait time on the steamed rice and I told her no apologies necessary as I was not in a hurry. I will definitely be back again! read more

If you're a local, you definitely know Lucky China -- as many other reviews mention, this place has been around for well over 30 years. I remember its glory days clearly. Back then, the parking lot was always full. There was always a wait to get inside, and the place buzzed with energy -- conversations at the booths, the hard-working staff bussing tables, and glasses of ice-cold water constantly being refilled. And the food? Always delicious. Of course, times have changed -- and so has Lucky China. Like other reviewers have noted, the restaurant feels much quieter now, almost ghostly. Most customers seem to order takeout these days, and I believe the owners are focusing on that side of the business. That might explain why the dining room hasn't seen any upkeep. Still, I have to say the couple working the evening I dined in were very kind and attentive. Unlike some of the other reviews, I actually enjoyed my food quite a bit: * Deep Fried Shrimp with Spicy Sauce: 8/10 -- fresh, steamy, nicely battered. * Broccoli Beef: 9/10 -- great flavor and perfectly cooked, with al dente broccoli. * Chow Mein: 7/10 -- typical, nothing special. * Egg Rolls: 8/10 -- fresh and hot. * Wonton Soup: 9/10 -- flavorful and memorable, especially since the young lady came to serve our bowls personally. We came here for a late lunch/ early dinner after my husband's graduation. We were the only ones in the restaurant and the service was rather slow. The food is always consistent and was still good. Ambiance was the same as it's been since the 90's with a slight update. Would I come back? Of course, but only for takeout. read more

Food is good but the hours and random takeout only days make this place not worth visiting, stopped by for lunch and there is a sign that today was takeout only. So closed on Wednesday and Saturday, Sunday and random other days takeout only. Paired with the fact that the restaurant is run down mark the end of our patronage for this establishment. Dingy little joint right off Carson st west of Delores. Met a good old friend for lunch here and questioned his choice but played along. Reviews were mixed but general consensus was "Mongolian beef" so my mind was made up before I even walked in the joint. No alcohol (bummer) but the Mongolian beef was as advertised... pretty effing tasty. Portion sizes were such that I could only make it thru half and they kindly offered to pack up the rest for take home. Gotta say, they were very pleasant and accommodating. On another note, a scurvy looking homeless fellow, zipper down and waiting for his junk to sing happy birthday or some $hit to us, walked in during the middle of our meal and felt it to be a wise idea to interrupt our meal and beg for cash. Well, TBH, I'm very philanthropic, give generously to multiple charities monthly/annually but have a difficult time dealing with those that don't seek help / treatment. Lunch special Mongolian Beef is what I recommend. Comes with fried rice, egg soup, 1 wonton and 1egg roll. The beef is pretty tasty, slightly sweet but flavorful, which is why it's one of their customer's favorites. I have yet to try any other restaurant that has the same flavor as their Mongolian Beef. If you like a little kick, ask for their hot mustard on the side to dip your beef in, with each bite. If you want a dipping sauce for your wonton and egg roll, ask for a side of their sweet and sour sauce. I also usually add white pepper to my soup. Definitely a hole in the wall so don't be surprised with how it looks. Which is why I usually choose to call it in and take it to go. I usually interact with a young friendly woman that's been there for years. Take out usually takes 10-15 minutes. read more

It could have used just a little more sweet soy sauce . The chicken goyza was good. First and foremost the place needs renovation. The place needs much to be desired. Cleanliness is number one if you want people to eat in your restaurant. This place used to be our go to for good Chinese food but the quality of the food, the service and the atmosphere of the place has gone way down hill. I will not return here, we came in and ordered chicken chow mein among 3 other dishes but the smell of the chicken was so bad that as soon as they brought it to the table, I wanted to throw up. it smelled as if the chicken had been left out for a couple days and then cooked. The girl said the chicken was fresh and switched it for something else. No apologies she blamed my nose for being overly sensitive. Dont know what was so great about this place except the lunch specials back in the early 2000s lol. The food was never that good, or fresh. The ambiance really sucked if you dined in because the workers would literally be food prepping on the table next to you...no gloves or anything. I'd look past all of that if the food was bussin...alas, not a bus in sight. It says open but when I came recently the place was closed, no sign or anything. My best friend recommended this place. It's hard to find good Chinese in the area. My girlfriend is a little specific about her chow mein so we gave this place a shot during the pandemic. We ordered vegetable fried rice, chicken chow mein and broccoli beef which in my opinion showed a lot veggie and beef. Every plate was stacked with enough to eat for six people. We definitely made leftovers of it and I'm hooked on this place. I look forward to trying their chicken fried rice next time. My family has been coming here for years. But after Covid happened this restaurant went down hill. Not only are they a bit pricey now which is fine because I know everything's cost is higher. But their portions are way smaller than they used to be and I feel like I'm not getting my moneys worth anymore. There are many Chinese food places and none of them care about the criticism because their food is their life. We are tasting a bit of their history as they stood here surviving and moving forward with deliciousness longer than some peoples accounts have been active. Now do your due diligence and try the Mongolian beef. That recipe itself has been respected by the locals for decades. Don't like it? Try something different on another visit. Don't be swayed by the look of this location. Very hole in the wall, but also very very tasty. Food is all cooked to order right then and there so it may take a bit longer to get to you but worth the wait. Prices have gone up also but that could just be a result of Covid. read more
