If you're a local, you definitely know Lucky China -- as many other reviews mention, this place has been around for well over 30 years. I remember its glory days clearly. Back then, the parking lot was always full. There was always a wait to get inside, and the place buzzed with energy -- conversations at the booths, the hard-working staff bussing tables, and glasses of ice-cold water constantly being refilled. And the food? Always delicious. Of course, times have changed -- and so has Lucky China. Like other reviewers have noted, the restaurant feels much quieter now, almost ghostly. Most customers seem to order takeout these days, and I believe the owners are focusing on that side of the business. That might explain why the dining room hasn't seen any upkeep. Still, I have to say the couple working the evening I dined in were very kind and attentive. Unlike some of the other reviews, I actually enjoyed my food quite a bit: * Deep Fried Shrimp with Spicy Sauce: 8/10 -- fresh, steamy, nicely battered. * Broccoli Beef: 9/10 -- great flavor and perfectly cooked, with al dente broccoli. * Chow Mein: 7/10 -- typical, nothing special. * Egg Rolls: 8/10 -- fresh and hot. * Wonton Soup: 9/10 -- flavorful and memorable, especially since the young lady came to serve our bowls personally. Overall, I truly hope Lucky China finds its spark again. It's a place with a lot of history and heart, and I'd love to see it have new glory days to come.

Lucky China is one of those real old-school gems that reminds you what comfort food should feel like. It's not the glitz and glamour type of restaurant it's the kind of spot that instantly brings you back to childhood with the smells, the sounds, and that familiar mom-and-pop energy. You walk in and it just feels like home. The food is the real reason you come here, and it absolutely delivers. The salt & pepper shrimp was the standout for me crispy, flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and honestly so good it feels like it's in its own world. It has that nostalgic taste that hits in a way newer restaurants can't recreate. Nothing about Lucky China feels mass-produced or corporate. You can tell it's run with heart, history, and pride. It's the kind of place you keep in your rotation not because it's trendy, but because it makes you feel taken care of. If you're looking for a true mom-and-pop experience with amazing food and that old-school charm, Lucky China is it. I'd absolutely recommend it.

Everything tasted old also felt like they boiled the meat and then threw it in sauce. For $125 to feed my family I feel like I got ripped off.

If you've ever had popcorn chicken from a good boba shop, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. The chicken is crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and somehow manages to disappear before I make it home. The fried basil is the real MVP though! crispy, fragrant, and incredibly addictive! Highly recommend checking out this local gem!!!

We asked for not spicy and there was only a hint of white pepper. The only negative was the presentation. It is served in a large paper cone. That's fine if you're eating and walking with it. But at a table, the cone was so tall that you have to stand up to see the chicken inside. And you have to rotate the cone if you're sharing since one side of the cone is taller than the other. The stinky tofu was serviceable but it could have been stinkier. The beef noodle soup was okay. The beef was very tender and the soup was good. But it's not as flavorful as the ones at Sue's Kitchen up the street. The only miss for me was the Dan Dan noodles. I was warned it was spicy but it was a bit spicier than I anticipated. That's ok but the sauce had a weird sour taste to it that was kind of off putting. The service is very attentive. I wish they served boba drinks. Overall we will definitely be back. I can't wait until they open their new branch up in Palos Verdes later this year.

There was eight of us, and we ordered a lot of dishes to share. I'm gonna break them down, but I have to say that nothing we had was not top quality. I haven't had food like this in years. First was the Kung pow chicken. Wow, it was just a perfect blend of spice and the chicken was perfect. No gristle. And that is the theme of this entire meal. I hate gristle, this Kung pow was sublime. Sweet-and-sour pork. I basically given up on this dish because no one gets it right, and it's always an excuse to hide gristle and fat. Not in this case. It was super tasty and for the first time I can remember there wasn't 1 ounce of gristle in this meat. It was just crispy tasty wonderful. Hong Kong style chow mein with pork. Another dish I haven't had in years, and this place nailed it. Reminded me of my old China house restaurant in Alameda. I mean it was really good. The pork was awesome, the gravy was perfect. What a great dish. The fried rice was excellent. Not greasy at all. I believe we got a combination fried rice and man was it good. Shrimp with lobster sauce. This was excellent, God this dinner was just so great, and this dish was right in there with the rest of them. I can't wait to go visit family again so I can eat at this place. It was spectacular. Oh and the last thing, the hot and sour soup was amazing. Again haven't had this type of food since I left the Bay Area. I give this meal a triple wow!!!

We ordered the xiao long bao, broccoli beef, beef rolls, and chicken chow mein. The xiao long bao was excellent with a good amount of soup in each dumpling, and the beef rolls were probably my favorite item, especially dipped in a mix of black vinegar and soy sauce. The broccoli beef had a nice flavor, though I wished it had a little more meat. The chicken chow mein was the weakest dish for me: the noodle texture was great, but the overall flavor didn't stand out as much as I expected. Ordering was easy and the menu was very approachable thanks to the pictures. The restaurant is on the smaller side, which actually made it easier to get a server's attention when needed. Food also came out pretty quickly. The ambiance is straightforward and comfortable -- nothing fancy, just a solid neighborhood restaurant. Because it's small, you may have to wait if it gets busy, but tables seemed to turn over quickly thanks to the fast service. One practical tip: the portion sizes are bigger than they look. We had a table for two and ended up with dishes crowding the table pretty quickly. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and will definitely be back.

They're typically very busy when we go on a weekday night. But once we got seated, service was fine. I usually get the pork wontons with chili oil. It's flavorful and it's actually not really spicy. I ended up dipping my noodles in the chili oil sauce from the wontons just to get more flavor in it. Good place to come for simple dishes. Overall pricing is reasonable as well.
