But here's the kicker-- when I called to ask them if they could refund the $1.48 it to my card, they said that "I had to show them my receipt by driving all the way back there." Most places will understand there was a mistake and refund it over the phone. I told them that they had not given me my receipt and that they need to just take a look at my bank account because the charge is on there. They said "no we just have to see the receipt In person." Also, when I was at the register, there is a subtle pressure to leave a tip for them just dishing up the food. The cashier weights and stairs while you decide how much to tip on the receipt. Unfortunately, I left a dollar tip in because I was so busy. I didn't realize I had already been charged already way too much! I'm not sure if these people are racist or not because I am not Vietnamese. The owners are Vietnsmese. Also, the lady I spoke with on the phone that said I had to come in with my receipt--her name is Lee. But as soon as she told me her name, she said I'm not gonna be here tomorrow. One family was dining in and there is one long table and two other separate tables so I would not plan on dining in (just take out). I was not worried about the food quality cause as they say, hole in the walls have the best food! So I placed my order at 11:29am & it was supposed to be ready by 11:43am; however, it was not ready until 11:55am. I got a lil nervous due to where I parked (at the gas station) so I noticed a couple of open spots in their congested parking lot and immediately moved my car. Magic happened upon my return: my food was ready! I ordered the kung pao chicken with steamed rice (brown or fried is 1.00 more). I also added on the hot and sour soup, egg roll, and fried wonton for 1.99 more. With tax, my order came to 20 bucks and some change. Seemed only 1-2 takeout order customers beat us there. The building and staff do not seem to have changed. Parking is still in a U-shape around the building on their square-rectangular lot. So parking is on both sides and in the back but the lot is one way. No lunch specials on Sun, need to come Monday-Sat for a lunch special. The curry chicken and chicken fried rice have not changed and are still very good with a good portion. Prices have gone up but are about what you expect to pay in today's economy. Only difference is that you probably get a bit more quantity than at comparable restaurants. The spicy noodle soup seems to have changed a little--brown broth instead of clear/yellow, but the quality is comparable to before. The curry is the stir fry kind and not the Indian-Japanese soupy style many other Hong Kong and Mandarin places are serving. The lady who served us seemed to be the same one who helped us a few years ago. She is pleasant and efficient and seems at least bi-lingual in Mandarin and English. Four stars because despite apparent gentrification attempts in the area, Carson is still a dangerous neighborhood and that is one of the main reasons we have not been back for a while. Definitely worth a try if you have not been here before and definitely a good alternative to driving to downtown China town or Monterey Park/San Gabriel if you live in South Bay.
