Growing up, there was a small Chinese takeout spot at the mall that had the best egg rolls. It's been hard to find egg rolls similar to the ones from my childhood. There was something special about their crisp wrapper and it was not your typical egg roll wrapper. I recently found Nim Chan's Kitchen however and their egg rolls come pretty to close! I came here for lunch and tried one of their $10.50 combination plates. Several of their plates come with the egg rolls. I got the Kung Pao Chicken with fried rice and egg roll. The egg roll did not disappoint. I loved the crisp outside. I got that nice glassy crackle sound upon bite. It was awesome. The filling itself is simple and I do wish it had more protein. There's a little chicken, some cabbage and celery. The winner here is really that wonton wrapper! Aside from the egg roll, I also did like my Kung Pao Chicken which had a bit of a spicy kick. I also tried my mom's Beef with Brocolli. The beef was tender and had good flavor. The fried rice that came with the combo plates was just ok. It was more of a brown rice than a fried rice. Overall, I'm happy to have discovered Nim Chan's Kitchen. The egg rolls reminded me a lot of the egg rolls I enjoyed as a kid. read more

Picked up dinner after working in the city on a sunday evening. I placed a phone order once I walked out of work. Thry mentioned it would be ready in 20 minutes. They are open 6 days 11:30 to 9 pm Tuesday they are closed They do catering I ordered chicken chinese mushroom, egg rolls, egg fried rice. The order was ready before the 20 minutes amazing. I was on my way home. Food was fresh and made to order. The eggs in the fried rice was delicious. The egg rolls were good and crunchy. I wish I had asked for some sweet sour dip. The chicken chinese mushroom was good but it had alot of broth which I wasn't looking for. I thought it would be on the dry side. First time here, Nim Chan's Kitchen is a Mom and Pop business. The restaurant is small. We ordered our food and sat in one of three tables.. The owners were nice even though there was a little language barrier. We ordered Chicken Chow Mein, Sweet and Sour Pork Fried Shrimp with Fried Rice, and Mongolian Beef, . What I ate was good. Now, I will point out that the price range is low, for the amount of food you get the price is just right. Most of the businesses in this shopping center are all Mom and Pop-owned. Food was good but very expensive for what we'd ordered. Spent $63 for Fried Winton w/ cream cheese, Pork Wonton Noodle soup, Egg fried rice, Sweet & Sour Pork, Shrimp Lo Mein. Very stingy on the side of white rice. Sweet and Sour Pork was tasty, not overly soaked in sauce. Egg fried rice was good but kinda pricey for what it is and same for the fried won tons. This is now our official go to for Chinese take out. Good quality, good portions, veggies are always fresh and crisp. Chop suey, chicken chow mein, Mongolian beef, a sauté green bean, friend rice ( the only think I thought was a next time pass), and the most crave inducing egg roll. My first time to try Nim Chan's and I wanted to order two items for pick up four hours later. I placed my order around one pm but my daughter called and wanted to buy me lunch. So I called back and spoke with Mr Chan and cancelled my order. He was very nice and friendly and he nicely thank me for trying their place. It's seldom that an owner doesn't get mad at a cancellation and he asked me to call again next time. Unfortunately the food here is not good me and my cowrkers wanted to try a new spot in San Pedro so we decided on Nia Chans it was a bit pricey and hoped it would be worth it. We usually order the family combination, and their won ton noodle soup, which we order when we are sick. The soup has a lot of vegetables, noodles, won ton, and choices of meat and/or shrimp. I was feeling under the weather, so I asked my BF to pickup some Wor Wonton soup for me. The wontons were nothing but rubbery dough and not a spot of meat. There were a couple pieces of rubbery chicken, 2 slices of what I think was BBQ Pork and 2 small pieces of shrimp. The rest of the "soup" was packed with huge slices of celery and the "broth" was nothing more then slightly seasoned water. My BF got the Mongolian Beef! It was very soupy and was also packed with a huge amount of celery! Unfortunately because it was so soupy and put in a regular Chinese take out box, the juice leaked all over his car seat! The chow mein is very hard to order, hit ir miss. This business owner is very rude he was yelling at me. I went back to tell them my chow mein was boiled noodles with ketchup sauce and that had not happened to me here before. He was yelling at me that I didn't know their noodles were soft. They were boiled spaghetti noodles with Ketchup. I pay cash when I come here my first time I complain sometimes the food is not as tasty. But it's a local spot and I try to support instead of buying at Panda Express. I have learned my lesson. The guy was yelling at me telling me I ordered the wrong noodle. I never get asked what noodle I just say chow mein. But this time it was tasteless and with Ketchup. Stay away. I returned the noodles and left without anything because he would not stop yelling at me. He saw me leaving and said wait I'll make it for you, still in a terrible yelling tone. I said nope do not yell at me. He then called me and left me a voicemail. Listen the good news is there's a ton of Chinese food restaurants and they give me great service. To the owners, if you are in the food business don't forget I pay it's not free. So try not to loose too much business either because of your bad attitude. Not recommended. I had three different dishes. They were not authentic nor Americanized dishes. A Basically flavorless base is used in most dishes with the addition of some item to distinguish it such as cashews, birdseye peppers, or some pineapple. Also, the kung pao chicken was not breaded. Unusual. The ingredients that are in abundance are onions and green bell peppers so, if you like those then, your in luck. Me, bell peppers disagree with me so there was a great deal of waste. This has to be the WORST Chinese food I've ever had! At least the guy was nice! I got the beef in oyster sauce, egg rolls and foil wrapped chicken. The foil wrapped chicken was so bland, it was brown on one side and completely white and unseasoned on the other. The egg rolls had too much greens and not enough meat. The beef and oyster sauce was bland, the sauce was runny, and there were too many bok choy and onions. The beef was tough. On top of that the white rice was mushy and watery. Found on Yelp we went here for dinner in San Pedro after Catalina Island. It was open on Labor Day and lots of other restaurant we wanted to go were closed.
