I had enough for two meals! Located on Dorchester Ave, this place is only take out. Street parking is pretty challenging but getting your lunch fix here is totally worth it! Closes early every single day. They do NOT close at 9pm. Not by a long shot . It's 8:46pm and they are closed. Who knows when they actually close? They just do whatever they want every day. UPDATE: Do not order "Sticky Rice" new menu item. Here is why: 1. "Sticky Rice was advertised as 12.95. They charged me 15.95. 2. Shrimp pieces were hard as rock. If I wasn't so hungry I would have returned the whole thing. 3. Rice was either undercooked or old. Each grain was tough, more than just chewy. Didn't look anything like the picture. Picture had succulent pieces of meat and good sized be vegetables. Take a look at the pic and judge for yourself. I had no idea so many things could go wrong at the same time. read more

I used to get the BBQ here and thought I would introduce it to my kids. Drove out in the rain and made the order and pulled out my credit card. Cash only. Is it ok to complain about this?. In China itself, I understand you can use your phone to buy practically anything even in the most remote province. But here in Dorchester, at Lucky Cafe, you can't even use a credit card. They want me to go across the street to use an ATM where I'm sure I'd have to pay an exorbitant fee. So I canceled the order and won't go back. Great food i usually order the roasted pork and its always good. I also enjoyed there chicken curry. Great flavors and very consistent.

I opted to order takeout from there, and I must say, their menu offers a diverse range of options, making it challenging to decide. Ultimately, I went with the rice bowl featuring duck, chicken, beef, cabbage, and scallion ginger sauce. It was delicious, satisfying and filling, providing enough for two meals. A friend just suggested I get my chinese new year meats from here, so grateful they told me because my family was very pleased. Even though I had to drive nearly 45 minutes to pick up this order, it was worth it. We had the White Chicken, it was seasoned well and tender. The Duck was delicious, meaty and juicy. The Roasted Pork belly, wow! They gave me half lean and half fatty, because chinese people like the fatty ones. The skin was crispy and the meat was cooked to perfection. While i was waiting in line, I heard another customer say how their roasted pork belly was the best he's ever had... even after a couple days in the fridge, my mouth was still watering when eating these leftovers. So, on an adventure to find both pork and duck bbq outside of Boston, I visited Lucky Cafe. How lucky was I! The pork was lean, crispy, and had enough fat to keep the meat moist. The duck was also lean and very crispy. Do yourself a favor and get extra sauce with your order. The owners of the restaurant are extremely kind and helpful when ordering. So...this place...doesn't deliver...so this is the first thing wrong. but i decided to give it a try. The food was EXCELLENT! I loved that this place had barbecue meats and traditional Chinese food. Best roasted pork is sold here. Every time I have visitors or relatives came to visit in a short notice, I would be here for the rescue of last yummy-minute meal. I would have it with rice or with bánh hi, Vietnamese boiled-rice noodle, they've the best (just got a pound this evening since a friend's son came to visit from Texas. Don't waste your time unless your asian. Place is 2 mins from my house. Order there two times. Both time my food was ready , But they made sure i waited 10min looking at my order in the bag. An in a nonverbal way let me know I'm not Welcome . Second time they refused too look at me or take my order so I left. Decided the give it another Try. Same rude service rice was old and steel crab ragoons taste like Throw Up. I know Boston has its Racist parts. But this is the worst I've been treated personally. Ever since they change management the flavor and representation of the food is not the same.. although it's not the same I still give it a go every now and then but after today it'll make me rethink this place... order the box of pork chops and 1lb roasted pork skin belly. Upon arriving at home and opening the boxes; not sure how they marinated the pork chops with cornstarch but it tasted a bit off and the color looked off. for the pork belly they left 2 good size bones in the box to make it weight more and we got less than 1lb of meat.. yes I have a scale at home and decided to weight the meat... sad liife read more

The serving sizes here are huge! So if you prefer quantity over quality then this is ur place! I normally go to wai wai but my guy friends convinced me to try lucky cafe bc the portions are bigger and wai wai been skimping on their rice plates. I normally get chicken and rice with veggies. If you are no so close to a Chinatown this is your best bet. The fact that they have a nice assortment of animals hanging from their window is a good indicator. Everything from squid, chicken, duck and crispy pork is on display and seems disheartening to some not used to it. I grew up going into the shops of Chinatown in NYC as a young boy and learned from my mom that a place that is willing to show their goods publicly deserves to be tried. My old standby here is the trio special. It is a great combo of roasted duck, steamed chicken and roasted pork over rice and bok choy. They also season the chicken with a very tasty garlic mixture which can be spread on everything. I also recommend getting the hot oil for a little added heat. Another must have dish is the wonton soup. For people who loves "real" wonton soup that is delicate and light, this is a place to go. The filling is also delicate and very tasty. A nice touch is they separate the wontons from the broth so when you get home the wontons have not all fallen apart. I actually eat them without the soup usually because they are that good. The chow fun is very flavorful and portions are generous. There is a dish there that I get that is made of tripe, stomach, etc. which many places do not have. Again it is super good. My only gripe here is they close so early. They close at 9pm but start packing up at around 8pm, so get there early or their menu becomes very limited. read more

For the last few months I've been walking by Lucky Cafe's storefront, almost seduced by the attractive cuts of meat hanging in the window, but I've always had something else to do. Yesterday, I had nothing to do, I sat around all day playing games and watching television, and when it came time for dinner, a light went off. I got myself a CUSTOM COMBO of crispy pork and roast pork served over rice and I was quite pleased with this decision. The Crispy pork is as it should be, crispy, fatty and porky. The roast pork was tasty, and the mixtures of melted fat and seasoning and oil that dripped into the rice made it into something special. Will be back here soon to try more. read more

I love this place! You have the convenience of hanging, roasting ducks and pork without having to go to Chinatown! They have great salt and pepper calamari and give you a ton of food! I used to love stopping by here with my sister and ordering just one takeout container of food and driving to the beach and sharing it. Great and quick place to get your BBQ meats (duck, chicken, pork) and typical Chinese dishes. I like to come here and get their rice combo's with select meats. I really like their soy chicken and ginger chicken, very flavorful and soft. Just thinking about it is making me drool. Their duck is delicious! If you don't feel like going after their rice combos, buy half a duck/chicken/pork or even a whole one! It's about 11/20 for half/whole. But if you plan to get these get them during the day, don't go at night! At night, the meat has been out for awhile and sometimes get a old one and is not as yummy. I had that experience once and felt pretty disappointed but when I came back some days later during lunch the food was SO GOOD! They were generous with their portions and the meat was fresh! this review is for the chinese bbq lunch boxes only. with that said, lucky cafe is my go to place for cantonese style bbq, when i'm not going to chinatown. i have not tried their other dishes, so i cant vouch for them. i can only speak for their crispy pork. it is what you'd expect, part fatty and part crispy. the owners are friendly, and the prices are not too bad post covid. they get the food out fast. only complaint is sometimes the meat to rice proportions are off (too much rice for the meat). read more

Not sure if people notice but when you order bbq meat by the pound, you never see the actual weigh scale. They but the scale behind the counter. So you never know how much it really weight. When ordering say "1 pound", they always cut like 1.5 pounds and ask if you want to take it...this happened every time when I buy from this place.. In most case people will take it. To my knowledge, about 95% of the butchers very precisely cut the exact pound. e.g 1.01, 1.02..in worse case 1.2. With that said, this business is not honest. However..... it's close to my new place, it's cheap, it's good, and it's ready quick. WORD TO THE WISE: if you place an order for carry out, CHECK THAT THEY GIVE YOU THE RIGHT MEAL. They never asked for my name or anything, and when I walked the dude goes "for pickup?" and i said "yes" he starts getting a bag together, and I say "Spring Rolls & Chicken Lo Mein?" and he goes "ooooh" and starts preparing a different bag."
