Owner is very friendly and personable. The food is top notch. I highly recommend the Lamb Shank. Very tender, and peels off the bone easily. Use the back of the spoon to scoop out the marrow at the end . Get it spicy, but it's not that spicy at all. If you like middle eastern style food, or would like to try it, give this place a go! I'd recommend early on the weekends as seating in the food court can be a bit busy and pretty crowded. read more

Ordered the plain Koshari again. The guy asked if it was "for here" or "to go". I said it was "for here" so he served it to me a round bowl shaped container whereas last time it was given to me in a rectangular shaped take out container that could close up if I had leftovers and wanted to take it home. He did ask me though if I wanted a lid for my round container. I declined as I was quite hungry and had a feeling I was going to finish the entire dish...which I did indeed end up doing. The tomato sauce was automatically poured onto the food this time, and whereas last time I was given two small containers with two different sauces, one of them being spicy...this time, the guy asked if I'd like spicy or non spicy. I said non spicy so I was only given one sauce this time, which was the tangy sauce. Food was just as good as last time. I saw something on the menu that said "Egyptian Specials". I might take a closer look at that next time. As far as I know, Koshari is the national dish of Egypt but if there's another typically Egyptian dish that I can try, I am always up for trying new things! Wish there more options like this around town. Egyptian food is really not a common type of cuisine to come across around here, so this place is a real gem! read more

This is my 2nd time back to LUCA and this time I tried the grill chicken plate ($17) The chicken was so juicy and tender. I chose to have a mild spice which is perfect if you can't do too spicy. It comes with fries , hummus and green salad. The green salad is my favorite !! So refreshing! The portion is plenty and more than enough for 1 person. I also tried their pineapple flavored malt beverage ( non alcoholic) ($4.25) this one also goes well with the meal. Service is super friendly ! Highly recommended to try. Now they are in Aberdeen Mall but the owner said they are looking for a spot for a restaurant location, can't wait for your restaurant to reopen! read more

Wow, who knew we had Egyptian food right here in Richmond! It was previously restaurant and is now one of the vendors at Aberdeen Center. I've been going there 4-5 times so far and everything we've ordered has been extremely delicious. The staff at every visit has been very friendly. We've tried every single item on the menu. Sadly to say, the beer liver and beef sausage sandwich have both been discontinued before we got to try them. The shawarmas and the lamb shank were delicious but wasn't a wow for me... probably because you could get it at other middle eastern places. My absolute favorite is the hawawshi, which is an Egyptian version of a quesadilla lol. The pita is pan fried to a perfect level of crispiness. The minced beef inside is very flavorful. It comes with fries , hummus and sour cream. The koshari was also delicious. It's a national Egyptian street food. It'd essentially a mix of pasta , rice, lentils etc. I think the spices is what made the dish unique. These two dishes I find are more unique. The rest of the menu items is a variation of what you can find at other middle eastern places. Nevertheless, everything was simply delicious. read more

Wow. Didn't know Vancouver had Egyptian food available. Stumbled upon this restaurant randomly while wandering the area. Parking is available but limited on the side streets. The place is also somewhat close to SkyTrain (Main Street - Science World). The place is pretty fancy for what looks almost like a cafeteria. Mediterranean themed wall art. There is also a S facing outdoor patio area. Owner was friendly and chatty. Had a good chat with him and learned about koshary, the Egyptian national dish. Of course I had to order it to try. I can't speak for the authenticity as I had no reference point, but the owner mentioned that his recipe is basically what one would find in the food stands of Egypt. Koshary is a very interesting mix of pasta (almost looks like tiny beads), rice, short pasta (spaghetti?) strands, lentils, and deep fried onions. It was definitely different, and very tasty. Served with 3 sauces (tomato, lemon, and a spicy one). I gobbled everything up in minutes. The restaurant also serves wraps and Italian style pasta dishes. Pretty sure there's some historical context to all of this. Definitely will be back at some point to try more of their food. Recommended. read more

A buddy wanted to try out Luca Restaurant, an Egyptian/Mediterranean spot. We dropped in on a busy Sunday (12:30pm). Friendly workers but no one came back to offer water refills. Menu is a mix of fusion dishes; wraps, pasta, salad, tacos and desserts. On weekends, they have Egyptian breakfast dishes. - Kushary luca ($14.99) - an interesting blend of carbs (lentils, rice and pasta). Filling but nothing stands out flavour wise. - Breakfast offer of the day ($31.00) - fava beans, four falafels, Egyptian salad, eggplant salad, pita and feteer meshaltet. The tahini with molasses sauce was a strange combination. Falafels and the eggplant were decent. Didn't find the feteer meshaltet (layered pastry) particularly memorable. - Egyptian moussaka ($7.99) - everyone's favourite dish. Wasn't expecting a thick sauce with roasted vegetables. Nice to try Egyptian food but unlikely to return. read more

Found this place randomly when searching for a lunch spot nearby. This is a full service cafe/restaurant. They offer a variety of Egyptian & Italian options including a dessert display case with things like baklava , tiramisu, Panna cotta, etc. Spacious but not many tables. Enough room for additional tables if needed though. Staff was friendly & offered suggestions. Located walking distance from the Main Street/science world skytrain and if you're into flea markets, the Vancouver Flea Market is a short walk away. Koshary Luca (with beef) - Spicy Tomato based sauce on side. There was a bit more pasta than I expected and definitely generous in quantity. The crispy onions helped complete the dish nicely. Chicken Tawouk Wrap - More than enough for lunch. Chicken was juicy & the tahini went well. Albeit, the wrap was drenched at the end. Either too much sauce or I took too long to eat. read more

This was my first time trying Egyptian food and it was AMAZING!! I got koshary, mahshi, baklava, and rice pudding. I will be thinking about this meal for a long time. The rice pudding was out of this world. Loved the atmosphere too it felt so warm and homey!! Will absolutely be back, love that this is in Vancouver! read more

I used DoorDash for the first time while staying at a hotel in Vancouver on business. The driver was quick and dropped the meal off right at my door. The main dish was decent creamy meat psuace pasta. Comfort food. and simple--just what I expected from takeout. But the dessert really caught me off guard! At first, I wasn't sure what it was--it looked like plain white pudding. But when I tried it, it turned out to be an incredibly delicious Egyptian rice pudding. It was such a pleasant surprise and definitely the highlight of the meal. I don't know if it was just the unexpected factor or how good it truly was, but I'd absolutely recommend giving it a try! read more
