Wow! I've not been to Luby's in years! I thought they were all gone. The nostalgia is everything. The cafeteria-style food and ordering, selecting is everything. It's good food, you guys, for what it is. A classic for sure. I love Luby's probably more than I should.

I received a $50 Luby's gift card for my birthday and it's unbelievable that after three Luann Platters for lunch that I still have $10 remaining! Full disclosure, I'm from a different era in that I grew up eating at Piccadilly Cafeterias in the late 60s and 70s before later starting as a manager trainee in 1988 and leaving as a general manager in 2001 and before going to work as a manager for Luby's in 2006, but even at today's prices of $10.99 for a Luann Platter it's still a great value to get an healthy entree, two fresh vegetables, and a bread! There's only two remaining Luby's in Austin and the unit near my workplace on Anderson/183 is older and in need of a remodel, but the vibe is authentically 1990s and the young and old employees and customers are as spirited and happy as any I've seen for decades. It is still amazing and incredible to see people lind up in the serving aisle from the silverware at the counter to the vestibule door at 12:45 p.m! Hats off to this iconic Luby's for making it happen every day!

Luby's is straight nostalgia for me. It's been around for so long, managed to survive the pandemic, and though there are very few locations left around San Antonio and Austin, I do enjoy a drop in once in a blue moon. I grew up enjoying Luby's as a kid on Sundays with the family. It's inexpensive and filling and you just can't find the old time cafeteria vibes anywhere else. Is the food great? Not by any means. But it's southern comfort food, it's served hot and ready, you can choose whatever weird combination of mains and sides and desserts and breads you want, and 2 people can eat a feast for less than $35 - which is rare nowadays. My go-to items are the carved turkey, fried okra, broccoli cheese casserole, and their mac and cheese. You can't go wrong with the fried fish, either, or a slice of one of their old fashioned pies. Service is self-serve and very casual.

It's literally been decades since I've set foot inside a Lubys, and I have to admit it was better than I was expecting. Plenty of parking here and there's a large menu on the wall just before you get in line to make your selections. I have to admit there's a lot of variety sitting in those steaming chafing trays. I recommend getting here at the height of lunch or dinner because those heat lamps tend to dry the food out the longer it sits. To be honest the food is good and it's a step up from Golden corral and that's about it. When you check out with your selections, that tip screen will not be waiting for you, however they do offer you a cashback option so you can leave a few dollars on the table as a tip for your server. You can get Lubys to go and they are open11 to 8 7 days a week. Definitely good lunch or dinner spot at a great value. ***1/2

Always good food and kind service. I had the fried fish and tartar sauce which never is a bad choice. A go to when you don't know what to get.

I love Luby's and look forward to visiting when I'm in town. This place always brings back childhood memories, as this was where we went after church on Sunday's. Food is always on point, fresh and warm. Service is prompt, sometimes with a smile sometimes without and that's okay. I like the lights throughout the ceiling at the Anderson Lane location. I used to take the kids to Luby's location at 183 and Lake Creek Parkway (closed now) fun times and fun memories. Always the LuAnn Platter for me, and most of the times it's fried fish. Salisbury steak is next, or chicken fried chicken. With a side salad. Cafeteria food for the win here at Luby's (in my opinion). My husband loves the Liver & Onions, I DO NOT agree with this choice. Or the Turkey & Dressing is a hit too.

I love Luby's!! And I know I'm probably the only person in my circle and family (other than my mother) that LOVES LIVER AND ONIONS!! My physician thought I was on iron pills when I was pregnant because I ate this so much. And because I can't touch raw liver I appreciate Luby's and they give you nice size portions for a great price!

Truly horrible service during the pandemic. I think they should of just stayed closed. That's all I will say.

Nice start. This place is cavernous and has a long well stocked food line to go with it. I found pretty much typical lubbys fare on display. Always quite a spread for a cafeteria. They have a smaller serving called a LuAnn platter. It's a reduced entree portion with two sides and bread. Always a bargain and more than enough. Today I got the 1/4 fried chicken white. It consisted of a perfectly fried breast wing piece. I added mashed potatoes and gravy and fried okra. When I ask for the diner roll the server ask, butter on it? As he reached for a brush in a clarified dish of butter,I let Out and enthusiastic," Yes please". And he brushed on a beautiful glaze of butter. Add ice tea for a sweltering Austin day refresh and you have a winner. These cafeterias are disappearing just as we need the value most. I recommend as soon as possible you... Go!

Upon entering I was a bit confused and a little leary looked like and was set up like school cafeteria but don't be deceived, it's totally not I was approached by a very professionally dressed and nice female who I assumed was the hostess/mgr. that explained the menu ordering system to me(later found out she was owner) anyway thanked her and went on about my business because I was hungry, checked out menu for day big chalk board with the "special" of the day and the fresh Entrees and soups of the day in addition to there usual menu items, burgers, sandwiches, ect. the entrees this day were a "smothered chicken breast" looked like a chicken marsella type dish (looked yummy) & a squash curry casserole which looked great also, but I opted for the fresh soup of day & salad bar, because the salad bar looked so great and was plenty of fresh ingredients & a great variety of items to make a wonderful salad and excellent choice of dressings also! and the soup OMG ! it was totally excellent !! the one I had don't remember the name of it but was a chicken soup with posale & cilantro in it big chunks of chicken and seasoned perfectly I loved it ! it was delicious I even purchased a second bowl it was so good the other soup was a potato&leak that looked excellent but didn't try, needless to say I was very satisfied with my lunch and would suggest to my other friends, kinda seems like a "weird" or strange place to eat inside the housing auth. bldg. but its great give it try if you're looking for some fresh good food, menu varies daily and they cater also please give their web site a look only open from 11a- 330 or 4 p but well worth trying! just my take on this not so well know place ! they do catering also!!

She was friendly, attentive, welcoming, and made the whole experience that much better. Everyone we encountered was genuinely friendly and happy to be there. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had the Badass Bacon & Eggs ($14.99) and it was outstanding. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the hash brown casserole was fantastic -- but the bacon was over the top! Thick, flavorful, and seriously some of the best bacon I've had at a diner. You have to try it! We also had the Migas ($15.99) -- fluffy eggs with onion, tomato, Hatch chiles, Hatch chile hollandaise, cotija, crispy masa cakes and red potatoes. Tons of flavor and another winner. And don't skip the coffee! Phoebe's serves locally roasted Texas Coffee Traders coffee, and it was excellent. Everything about our visit was great -- the food, the coffee, the atmosphere, and especially the friendly service. Halley was fantastic! There's a sign by the front door that gives you parking options. I was really torn with what choices to make... Pancake vs French toast: Pancakes were a little mushy/gummy for my taste. They are light but less sweet than many other pancakes. I'm typically pretty light on the syrup but I added more syrup for the sweetness. They are good, just less sweet. Next time I'd try the French toast which is made with thick brioche bread. Bacon vs sausage: Bacon is thick, not greasy you bite it like a piece of chewy pork, it's good; the smoked sausage is great! It's a little spicy, full of flavor. Eggs with onion added were quite flavorful. It was a good breakfast diner experience.
