I was very upset with my alignment service on my Tesla Model Y. I called around the metro area for shops that would align Teslas. They told me that they could adjust camber, caster, toe and reset the camera alignment system via service mode. They told me the price would be between $120 and $160, which I would not mind if a quality alignment was performed. I asked for the specs before and after and they told me their printer wasn't working. After the first alignment attempt I got on the road and the steering wheel was uncentered and aimed right. The car also had a bad pull to the left, worse alignment then when I brought the car in. They charged me $160 because it was supposedly off so bad. I called them and they told me to come back in. They aligned it a second time and corrected the steering wheel but car still had a pull left. I then again asked for specs and the guy told me he couldn't provide them.
I'm an ASE CERTIFIED technician that does all my own work but I have to sub out alignments because I don't have an alignment rack. This car specifically, the hood needs to be opened to adjust camber and caster correctly. I even removed all the trim for them to easily access the adjustment bolts. Since it's a Tesla I could see that the hood was not opened on either attempts of alignment and I can confirm they never went into service mode to adjust the cameras. I did this simple camera alignment at my home in two minutes without any special tools.
Very upset with the service and I will be bringing the car to a different shop to have quality work performed. Don't get ripped off by this shop. They "toe and go" your car and still manage to mess that up.
I will add their alignment specs tomorrow from a different shop that has a "printer" that works to see how off they were. read more
