Good mechanics. I would take a repair here and trust them. But they don't sell used tires. They will sell two new ones when all you might need is one used. For that check out Dearborn. read more

An honest car dealer is worth twice as much as they charge you, and Mack's has been excellent and honest for the three years I've been using them. They are competent and knowledgeable and always teach me something new every time I take my car in. They never ask me to fix things that are not needed and always give me a fair quote. I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation and I never take my car to anyone else. The team on site is always friendly. A+ on every level. read more

They replaced my radiator, but didn't touch the spot where I said the coolant was originally leaking. Just fixed it myself. They didn't bother to reattach the plastic grill cover and under portion. Under part came off on the highway and I had to pull over. Took less than a minute to attach the grill cover. read more

I started coming to this garage because my local garage in downtown Detroit closed - and actually recommended this site since j wanted to stay local. I'm so glad, because it's not often that I can find car mechanics that I feel aren't trying to "up sell" me but I feel 100% that I can trust these fine folks. I've never felt pressured to buy or do anything extra. Making appointments is easy, they have a nice waiting area with a coffee/tea machine and it's never a long wait for basic oil change services. I'm so glad to have a mechanic I can trust and one that's local! read more

The 5-star reviews on here are spot on; these guys are good at what they do, low-cost, and honest players taking a chance in an up-and-coming part of Detroit. I take both of my vehicles here for all of their routine maintenance. My only minor quibble is that it can be difficult to reach them in a timely manner. I have import vehicles, and I think they only have 1 technician (Nate) who does this side of the office (versus domestic cars), and he both works on the cars and returns calls/messages left on the import vehicles voicemail. It would be great if they could hire an admin person to run the office side of things, but if you can wait, these guys do excellent work! read more

If I could give more stars, I would! Refreshing, honest, and quick service. The work my car required was something that the garage doesn't specialize in so they referred me to another place - saved me lots of money. If you don't have a go-to garage - look no further. This place is it. read more

I love them to take care of the service reliable service& They keep it real with you great people

So relieved to finally have found a professional, reliable, honest shop close to home. Thank you Mack Garage for the work you've done on my Jeep and VW! read more

At last, a trustworthy car repair shop to keep my old car running! I go there for everything now, even oil changes. Such a great feeling. They work fast and the prices are very reasonable. I bought their tshirt and wear it when I bring my car in, lol. I have 191,000 miles on my baby. read more

I would give it 6 stars if I could. This is exactly what service shops should be. I typically take my car to the dealer and was taking my car to Mack Garage for the first time so I did my research beforehand to know what to expect. I made an appointment and they received and started the work on time, they explained everything they'd do in simple terms at the beginning, and completed the service within the projected time. After the service, they explained what they did and saw again in simple, non-technical terms and the service charge came out on the lower end of the range I had researched. I'll definitely be bringing my vehicle back here. read more

Mack garage is a fair and honest place to take your car. They are good mechanics and are not going to charge you some trumped up extravagant charges. I am a female & appreciate their honesty & mechanical expertise on my car!!! read more

First off, I bought my current vehicle from Mack Garage (a 2003 Isuzu Rodeo with 80,000 miles in great condition). Paid $3500 for it. I would highly recommend their used car shopping service! 5 months late, the Isuzu is still running strong. Since purchasing my vehicle from them, it has been serviced twice. The first time I was on my way to school when I got a flat on Mack I did not have time to handle the matter at the time as I was on my way to my exam. Post my exam, I was able to take my key to them and they were able to recover my vehicle and service it. During this visit I paid about $20 for an oil change + $25 for vehicle recovery (guesstimate!). All of this was completed in about 3 hours. The second time it was serviced I paid to get all new tires put on it. Service took 6 hours and totaled $520 +$0 for a brake check. I know both of these men (Eric and Nate) who run and work in the shop and they are men of integrity. As a woman it is important for me to trust the mechanics as I have been swindled too many times. These are men of God who have a heart for people in Detroit and love cars! The prices are affordable. They are transparent and honest. If they cannot service your car for any reason, they will refer you to another honest business place who can (e,g. I needed some body work done on the Isuzu Rodeo after it was hit and Eric told me that they could not do the work and referred me to Alter Collission in Grosse Pointe, they did an excellent job). Go Mack Garage. I would highly recommend. Tell Eric and Nate that Amber P. sent you! ;) read more

Highly recommended. Two young guys trying to make it in the New Detroit. Mack Garage was recommended to me by a friend who has the same make of car as I do(2007 Volvo). I was able to make a reservation online and received a confirmation email solidifying my appointment. At the shop, I received very friendly and knowledgeable service. And to top it off, their prices are way below what other shops in the area charge. If your car needs work and you're in the downtown Detroit area, check these guys out now before they get way too busy. It's gonna happen. read more

Eric and Nate are some of the most genuine people I've met. I was going through a job transition which required me to do a long distance trip to California. I brought my 2007 saab 9-3 in for a check and an oil change. They found an oil leak and a few other issues and they told me how long it would take to get the parts as well as the the estimated costs. I was on a time budget and they made sure to get me the parts as soon as possible as well as take care of my car so that I could start my road trip. When they finished, it was actually a little cheaper than what was estimated and I appreciate them for being so honest. I'm glad I went to them before my road trip. I highly recommend these people and I cant thank them enough. read more

I'll never go anywhere else! The guys at Mack Garage are awesome, knowledgeable and super friendly. I have a 2001 VW Beetle and have trusted them with everything from an oil change to some major repairs to keep my baby running, even with many miles on her! They are great at troubleshooting and pinpointing where the issue is, as well as prioritizing repairs when I've been unable to do everything at once due to budget constraints. I am always given a thorough explanation of what they've done and why - which is excellent as someone who is relatively unfamiliar with car repairs. I am also always given a complete, detailed invoice of repairs and an honest fair price for a great job done. Keep up the excellent work, you guys are the best! read more

Honest men performing high quality work. I always bring my cars here and trust that they'll care for them the right way. They also charge for services very fairly and itemize everything on your invoice so there's never any fear that you're getting extra charges added on. read more

Awesome place! I'm so glad my coworker told me about this place. They are up front about the work and the upfront communication is not offensive because they are not going to bowl you over with monstrously expensive prices and aggressively pushing for stuff you don't need. I've had my VW serviced here several times and have always been pleased with the customer service, rates and the work. Highly recommend. I read more

Nate and Eric are the very best. These guys are the type that Detroit needs thousands of. They live close by and believe in the city. Go here with confidence and never ever consider using another shop. Their facility has a very hip/industrial/old Detroit vibe. It's just nice enough - not funky and scary and not without soul, like Firestone. These guys are real people, local, not part of a big business. Important to support businesses like this. read more

The transparency in this place is amazing! It seems like with most auto shops people get treated like they're an idiot, but this is definitely not the case with Mack. I dropped my car off for my 8am appointment and John called me within an hour to explain what was wrong with it. They gave me an estimate and I told them to go ahead and do the work. When I picked my car up, they actually ended up charging me less because it didn't take them as long as they thought. Never have I seen a shop do anything like this before. The sway-bar was broken on both sides, and now the car drives much better than it had. These guys are amazing at what they do and are friendly, easy-going, and are an all-around great group. I'll be bringing my car here for all of my maintenance and repair needs. Thanks guys! read more

This garage is absolutely amazing. I work crazy hours, and so I had to have my car towed there after hours (I'd never been there - I recently moved to Detroit). They gave me clear instructions on what had to happen when it was dropped, and called me in the morning to ask what the issues were (it was loud and shook when I turned it on). They work mostly by appointment, but try to help out people in emergencies or unexpected car trouble like mine. They called me back three hours later, and told me the issue was I had had a catalytic converter stolen overnight. They recommended a shop that would be able to do it cheaper, but I would have had to have it towed there which they said they would help facilitate. I decided to have them do it, because their quote wasn't too much higher and I couldn't afford to pay for towing. They came in under their quote! I was able to pay over the phone, and pick my car up in five minutes. I spend no more than five minutes in the shop, but their service and willingness to work with me was exceptional. If I ever have car trouble again, or just need a check-up, I will bring my car here. read more

The owner Eric, refused to service my van after my husband went up there in person and told him not to work on his wife's van because we're in the middle of a nasty divorce divorce. Eric told me that they only take appointments and they're booked until August. I'm not sure why a business owner is turning down business, but I just wanted to make people aware how he runs his business. read more

My daughter lives in Downtown Detroit. Mack Garage worked with me on getting her vehicle towed (very reasonable rate) to their shop location, diagnosed the issue quickly, and worked with me to find best pricing on replacement parts. I plan on keeping Mack Garage on speed-dial to keep her on the road. Thanks. GG read more

Absolutely trustworthy and extremely knowledgeable. Really work for their customers. My entire family uses their service.

15K miles after Mack Garage installed a new timing belt on my Honda Odyssey, I heard a knocking sound coming from the engine. I called on a Monday and they took me right away. After a few minutes they diagnosed that the tensioner had gone bad. They replaced the tensioner under warranty and I had my car running well by the afternoon. Much appreciated that the guys stood behind the parts and their work, not charging me a dime for parts or labor. read more

This place is the best. Men who know what they are doing and both trustworthy...and courteous! This place is so good they're not only a good business they are doing the community a service by helping Detroiters stay on the road - important because of lack of public transit. I have a 26 year old vehicle and they keep it going. read more

I found this shop on yelp and decided to try it out based on the reviews. I went to have my spark plugs, oil changed, and tires rotated. Nate helped me when I got there; I pointed out what I wanted done and we talked about other problems I was having with my truck. After I left he called me back with a quote for the service before he did anything. Overall it was a cool little shop and I'll be keeping them in mind for my next service. The guys that own it were really down to earth and transparent about all the pricing. At no point was I ever pressured into extra services and I really respect that in a shop. Support small businesses like this! read more

I'm so lucky to have found these guys! My Prius wouldn't start one morning. When I called a tow truck for a jump it would start when jumped, but would lose all power as soon as it was disconnected from the truck's battery. I had it towed to Mack, and they took good care of me. They remembered me from an oil change months before, and figured out that a big pothole had dislodged a connection from the starter battery to the big battery (a Prius is a hybrid with a complex design that I do not pretend to understand). They reconnected the batteries, charged everything back up, and charged me $45!!! They also made sure that the tow truck driver didn't charge me too much for his services. They're good people. read more

Great service at a great price. This is the only place I will take my car in Detroit.

I love Mack Garage, first place I have ever taken my car where I am not made to feel like I am being taken, or incapable. They do great work, and they won't charge you for something you don't need. read more

Look no further for your auto repair needs. Eric and his team are simply the BEST ! I brought my 19 year old Chevy truck in for brake line repair. I received quotes just under 2K. Eric's first estimate was $800. My invoice came in at $584.30. When was the last time your mechanic came in under their estimate. Spotless , clean work area. WDET or Classical music played while I was there. Honest , knowledgeable mechanics. Plus, they will not take on a project they cannot perform (body work) , but gladly refer you to a cost effective area body shop. They have won my loyalty! read more

The folks at Mack Garage do quality work at a great price. They're friendly, helpful, and make sure that your vehicle is taken care of.

These guys are great, stopped by the shop late last week with a couple questions. Left with questions answered and an appointment for the next Tuesday (today). Unfortunately I was sidetracked and missed my scheduled time but they were kind enough to fit me still today. Within hours I was back driving my car paying an exceptionally reasonable price compared to the previous research I've done online/word of mouth. Great guys, make sure they are on your radar next time you need a tune up. read more

I don't always write a review but this shop and the mechanics that work there deserve one. Great rates, straight up pricing and prompt service. Their shop is worth the drive into Detroit and I would recommend them to anyone. Great people running Mack Garage. You'll be happy with your experience.

Eric Nielson and his garage are some of the best I've ever had the pleasure of trusting with my vehicle. Courteous, honest, and above and beyond. Communication was always prompt and clear. They told me what I needed, what could wait, and what would be involved. Top notch work; I'm glad I can trust this garage and their skill with my rare SAAB 900 SPG. The customer service is what makes me tell my friends about this place though. Highly recommended, and will be bringing my business here for future jobs. read more

Got my 96 Chrysler New Yorker serviced here. Very happy with how direct and helpful Eric was. Gave me an complete overview of my mechanical issues with prices. They work with Motor City budgets.. That would be people that have constricted cash flow. Very very happy to have a service center I trust in the neighborhood with reasonable pricing and expedited service. read more

My first experience was very positive. Eric is personable, knowledgeable, practical (he didn't try to sell me something I could have used but did not need). The shop is clean and appears well-organized. He knows Saabs -- I'll be back! read more

I've really appreciated the transparency and integrity of Mack Garage the last two times I've had my car serviced at the shop. The guys are knowledgeable and attentive to detail which is something I really appreciated this last time I took my car in. I was only getting my oil changed and Nate finished the job very quickly and even checked all the other fluids for the car. He then noticed that Bell Tire had rotated my directional tires incorrectly and quickly fixed the problem while informing me of how to check for this problem to make sure my tires are rotated correctly the next time I decide to let Bell Tire do the job. While checking the rest of the car under the hood, he also let me know of parts that need to be replaced the next oil change in order to keep my car maintained and healthy. I really appreciated the attention to detail and the proactive approach to inform me of the condition of my car. I don't live in Detroit and drive in from Farmington Hills to have my car serviced here so I think that says a lot about how much I trust these mechanics and their work! read more

I cannot say enough good things about Mack Garage. They are honest, reliable, friendly and knowledgeable. They are not anywhere near my house and I go out of my way to get my elderly Jeep serviced there. Once you find a good mechanic, you stick with them. They have never tried to sell me anything I did not need. The employees are great both with cars and with people. read more
