Fine mechanics took the chance to stick it to somebody that had no idea what they had giving them a very confusing expensive option, then started trying to charge him 50 bucks a day storage after what they knew would happen not being able to pay the repair bills or the storage fees they gladly took the car resulting in the kid having a sign over the title. Henry, who must be the proprietor despite the name of the shop, is an old-school grease monkey who is plain-spoken and quick with a quip. He and his crew are thorough, polite and efficient. Here is the caveat: you are paying a premium for the service and "staying local," as the term is used. In other words, an oil change may cost a bit more at Sol's that. A Quick-Lube chain shop. That premium becomes pro rata higher as the repair becomes more expensive. I believe in supporting local business, and I am very loyal to Sol's, but the last time I went in and learned the a/c compressor needed replacement on my Lincoln, it would have been between $600-$1,000 more at Sol's than other shops nearby. (Sol's was $2,250; I found competitors charging anywhere from $1,350-$1,750.)

It was dropped off at 7:30am and was pleasantly surprised by a 11:30 pick-up call. Bill's quote for a starter RR was about $450, being a very good price as it would have been several hundred dollars more from a RV center and would be several weeks before they could get to it. The kicker being that it didn't need a starter after all, it was just a wire from starter to relay that need to be replaced, saving me hundreds of dollars more. Thanks, Bill, for your honesty and getting me on the road again.

I cannot say enough great things about 4th Street. I have taken my 10-year-old car there for…read moreseveral years and have never received anything but outstanding, honest, fairly-priced service. I trust them implicitly and as a person who is not particularly mechanically-minded, that's really important. Bill who takes the work in, distributes the work to the great techs and mechanics in the garage, is a very kind and knowledgeable person and answers every question I have. 4th street takes my car in, checks it out, Bill calls me with the quote and good explanation of what needs to be done and why and when! I never ever walk away feeling like I've been in any way bamboozled, quoted for services I didn't need, or anything close to that. The other great thing is that since my car is a Hyundai hybrid (and one of my kids has an old old BMW) if there are things that 4th Street knows are specific to our makes and models that is not their area of expertise, they'll tell me that as well so I can take the cars to the dealership or BMW-specific repair places. This has only happened a couple of times but I definitely have appreciated that guidance from Bill and staff. A million thanks to Bill and 4th Street Auto in Royal Oak for keeping my car safe and on the road and explaining everything I need to know before any work is done. Plus, they are just great people to deal with every single time!

When I arrived at 9, my car was immediately looked brought in to be looked at. I was taken out to see what the problem was and while I was waiting another customer was also shown what was wrong with her car. Other places I have had to ask to do that since I worry that some might try to take advantage of a person with boobs and long hair. I am usually the worst nightmare for those places since I am a woman who knows how to work on cars. Helped change 4 engines by age 18 and can fix my own brakes. But always enjoy letting someone else to do that since back and knees are well over 50. They were able to get the parts and repair the car for less than the price of the parts on the GM parts website. The waiting room has comfortable padded chairs, coffee, cold water, and even some rolls. Since the parts had to be delivered, I had a couple hours wait. Being widowed with my best friends working on Saturday, I just walked to neighborhood stores and a place to eat. My car waited on the lift instead of being taken to the lot to wait. It was fixed quickly once the parts came. I was able to see the old parts and the new parts on my car. Could have even taken the parts home if wanted ( maybe to make steampunk garden art if I still had a house). Wasn't pushed to buy anything else. It is great to find an honest shop with fair prices. Throw in good service, it might get my business instead of the dealer. My car is 18 years old and I have had it 15 years. Good service will allow cars to last that long. Will be back if I need to have my car fixed.
