    Creamy Coconut broth HOT POT.
    Sue M.

What fresh and delicious hot pot! I encourage everyone to come and taste for yourself. I had the creamy coconut broth and personalized my bowl with a pound ( YUP!! ) of fresh vegetables, noodles and marinaded meats. They created a feast for me. So so delicious. The owner comes to check on you personally. This place is a gem. Great way to spend my birthday with a friend!

It is our first time to see hot pot price by the weight. One pound is $15.95 and very filling. Shared a bowl with my friend and came to more than 2 pounds. Wished we did separate bowls so we could have tried the other broth. We went with the bone broth -medium for the spiciness level and was also able to taste the sukiyaki and mushroom broth opted by our friends. Will go back to try the coconut curry broth.

If I remember correctly, we had a reservation and arrived early as well. They sat us down once we were all there since there was no wait. My partner and I opted for the classic set which had 2 soup bases, 3 meats, 3 sides, 2 rice/noodle, and a veggie platter. I opted for the Yuzu Shio, while my partner got the Sukiyaki. I loved my broth! Again the meats, despite being from their most basic set meats was so good. You can definitely tell the difference in quality. I was scared this wasn't gonna be enough, but it was plenty! We were so full by the end. Again, I totally get the Mumu hot pot hype. I will be back LOL

The wait on a Friday night was a bit longer than expected than what was shown when we first joined the waitlist. Service here is fast though! We did get seated by the kitchen, so it was a bit hectic with staff constantly rushing behind us. We got the premium set and the meat quality was great. The vegetable platter that came with the set had a nice variety of fresh veggies. We ordered udon noodles but what we got was broken up pieces of frozen noodles that looked only to be half a serving. Other than that we still enjoyed our meal and were both stuffed. Personally I'd choose the Emeryville location over this one just because it's bigger and you're not sharing a table with other guests as much.

After reviewing a few hot pot places on Yelp, I chose Shabu King based on the positive reviews. I called to make a reservation. On the day of our visit, I was glad to find our table was ready at the appointed time. One of the staff explained that each person first pick a broth type, then you can request side dishes or type of meat(different cuts of beef, pork and there is also lamb). For vegetables and seafood, they have a bar area for each and you can pick from the generous selections of fresh seafood and vegetables. I was really impressed with the variety. For seafood, they have whole small octopus, sliced calamari, fish fillets, clams, mussels, whole large prawns, as well as small crab. They also have a condiment bar for you to make you own dipping sauce. Each person get their own pot, and we enjoyed many helpings throughout the evening. Sometimes it may be difficult to flag down a server, but when you do they are friendly and eager to take your order. I think their operation can be improved by having customers scan a bar code and order online as I have experienced in other AYCE places. Everyone in our party enjoyed their own customized hot pot, and we walked away with a very full belly. Will be back again when I have the craving for AYCE hot pot!

The food is very much like eating at home, and the service was friendly too. 1. First came the free Vegetables Pancake - simple with scallions and shredded carrots but very tasty. Slightly chewy but not oily. Their banchan has maybe 5 dishes but were all good. Even our 5yo son scarfed up all the pickled daikon. 2. Definitely recommend the Vegetables Gimbap for appetizer - like a sushi roll but packed with pickled veggies, tofu, and egg. 3. The Large BBQ chicken came on a sizzling plate. Chicken had a but more sauce than I'm used to, but otherwise very juicy. It also not excessively charred like other places. 4. Wife enjoyed the mild pork tofu soup with egg. Definitely eat this with rice like they do in those K-Drama shows. Parking is available in the shared lot behind the restaurant entrance. Also, to access their bathroom, you'll need to enter through the kitchen from the backdoor.

We were greeted when we arrived and told we could sit anywhere, which made the start of the visit feel easygoing. Our server was attentive throughout the meal and checked in on us regularly. We ordered several sushi rolls to share. Overall, they were okay--flavors were decent but nothing particularly stood out among the selections we tried. It satisfied the craving but didn't leave a lasting impression in terms of creativity or execution. What stood out more unfortunately was the cleanliness of the dishware and dining area. Some of the platters had dried, stuck-on bits of food, and my water cup had residue that I even tried to remove with a chopstick, but it wouldn't budge. The floors also felt sticky, which took away from the overall dining experience. I don't enjoy leaving reviews like this, but I do believe this is part of what Yelp is for--sharing honest feedback so management has the opportunity to make improvements. There's potential here with attentive service and a welcoming start, so I hope to see better attention to cleanliness on future visits.
