My wife is particular about her asparagus, too skinny is not acceptable. It has to be medium to fat, and of course, not woody. I'm more particular about my prawns. I can't stand overcooked seafood! Bitter Melon Chicken - 5 - Bitter Melon can be soaked in water to remove some of the bitterness before cooking. Then you want to cook it so it's no longer crunchy but not so much that it's mushy. Sai's always does a great job with it when it's in season. Oyster Pancakes - 4 - A slight downgrade because of the size of the oysters. Maybe I'm simply greedy but I want more! On the other hand, the egg was well seasoned, tasty and not overcooked. Sesame Balls - 5 - These were fried a little darker than usual but that just makes the sesame flavor pop! The clear sauce with the seafood is so tasty . We got free appetizers ( vegetable egg roll and fried wonton in sweet and sour sauce ) . Inside the dish were also cooked bok choy, carrot , mushrooms , slices of water chestnut, green onion in a ginger flavor gravy . It tasted great with either rice or or brown rice . Service was great . Lady waiter came by often to check on us and added more ice water . The restaurant is clean and the lady deep cleaned the table after the customers left . Restroom is also clean with pleasant air freshener. I appreciate the ambiance very much . It is classic and elegant. It s a great place to meet up with friends and have a chat. However, I'm super happy I found this spot, since it is my new go-to for delicious Taiwanese food. Parking is limited, as it's located in a business park area of Pleasanton, and the restaurant itself is small. There are a few tables to dine in if you wish but the vast majority of people take their food to go. This place operates cafeteria style, where you choose your primary protein for your bento, and the sides are all laid out in front of you to choose from. You can pick up to 3 sides. You can just tell everything is made with care and all the ingredients are super fresh. The family speaks mandarin as well! Since it was my first time there, I took a look at what others were ordering and it seemed like one of the popular sides was the bean sprouts. They were indeed super refreshing! I went with the tofu for the second side and for the third side, I chose the braised egg for my husband and the eggplant for me. Both were excellent choices and the tofu was so good, and even had a bit of a kick. The bentos survived the drive home, traffic and all, and held up well in my insulated bag. The meats were tender and there was plenty of rice to soak up all that delectable sauce. My husband enjoyed his pork chop too. Rice is something too because it tastes better than the one we usually have at home. About the drinks, there weren't many options besides water, sodas, teas, and other beverages you can see from the refrigerator. He probably remembered one of the customers sitting outside, walked up to them, and gave them their order. He seems to be very accommodating. We ordered beef noodle soup, and spicy pork dry noodle, or something like that (don't have the menu up now). We both got the wide flat noodles, which I loved! Very chewy and bouncy. The beef noodle soup was solid, no complaints there. Would def get it again. The spicy pork dry noodle had a bit too much mala and spice. The spice was very clumpy and changed the texture of the pork. I would have preferred if they had an option with beef (I know that's probably not traditional but I just don't love pork after a while lol). All in all I'd come back and try something else. I was wondering how tasty chow mein with those wide flat noodles would taste. I saw another review mentioning OK noodle, which we live near. I've only tried that place once but didn't think much of it. Might have to go back and see if it's any better than this place.
