I didn't have that kind of time, so I came here since they were immediately available. Nobody was rude. They were actually quick and professional. They took my car, and in less than 5 minutes the tech came back and explained that my car's computer had been reset and the readiness monitors weren't complete. I had recently changed the battery, so that made sense. He told me I just needed to drive it another 50+ miles. What I didn't expect was the $40 charge for that check. At my usual place, if the car doesn't pass, the fee covers retesting within 30 days. I assumed most smog shops worked similarly, but that was my assumption. Here, the $40 was just for running it through the machine, and when I come back it will be full price for the actual smog test. What confused me was that the manager later mentioned that if I had told them about the battery, they could've checked the readiness monitors in about a minute with a different device. That part would've been helpful to know upfront. It seems like offering that quick pre-check automatically could save customers time and money, especially since battery replacements are common. I paid the $40. That's on me for not asking more questions beforehand. But for anyone going in for a smog check, especially if you recently disconnected your battery, I'd recommend asking them to check your readiness monitors first before running the full test. They were fast and polite. I just think clearer communication about pricing and the quick pre-check option would make the experience much better for both the customer and the business. I understand every business runs differently, but this pricing structure just doesn't work for me long term, so I'll be returning to the shop I normally use.

They quoted me the price along with a long list of other things. I was not prepared nor expected to pay to fix all these things (shocks, axle, control arm). Hm...Let me get a second opinion and compare the price. My brother advised me to go down the street to Advance Auto. I showed Randy (young owner) the pictures and he said I may not need to do all that, let's just do your brakes and rotor disc and I will look at all the others things mentioned and will let you know or call you. Pay a deposit, order the parts, come back tomorrow to get it repaired. I'm glad I got it done today. He used original Toyota parts for the brake pads and Japanese parts for rotor disc, no aftermarket. He test drove the car. He explained everything to me and said I don't need to replace the shocks just yet but I will soon. My car can still drive safely on road.

I've only spoken to John, so naturally I always look for him when I have car trouble, but I'm sure Bob has worked on my cars too. Both gentlemen are wonderfully nice, polite and respectful. In the last few weeks I've been coming in and out for several family cars. I know nothing about cars and John is aware. Haha So he's always giving me advice and helping me make the best decisions. For example, some parts don't need to be fixed immediately, so he'll tell me to wait. Also, some parts shouldn't be fixed because the car is too old and it's not worth it and so on... Furthermore, I was having muffler issues and John recommended Tony's Muffler And Radiator Service (8516 Garvey Ave, Rosemead, CA 91770). He even called them to let them know what I needed because another shop (East LA) tried to take advantage of me and I was feeling anxious. Moreover, the guys are precise and swift with repairs. One day I had to tow one of the cars to the shop. It was almost 5:30pm (closing time), but John jumped immediately at the car. Next day, around 10am he calls to tell me my car is ready to go. John's inherent good-heartedness and kindness is what I love about Armstrong. This directly reflects on their work ethic and how they handle each repair. Their labor costs are fair and for parts it really depends on the car/model. From my experience with the guys, I highly recommend them. Thank you John and Bob for taking care of me~ (December 2024) Since December 2022 I've had three cars that I've taken to Armstrong. The gentlemen, Bob and John, are dedicated to their craft. Their knowledge, experience and skills are exemplified through every diagnosis, repair and/or routine automotive maintenance. One of the many things I love about Bob and John is that despite my limited knowledge they will thoroughly explain each dashboard warning light/issue/repair in depth and answer my questions genuinely. I immediately looked up Yelp and delighted with the reviews and immediately took my mother's car to be serviced. After meeting with Bob, told him of my bad experience with the dealership he was extremely detailed and serviced her car at a fair price. The dealership performed the same service at the double the price and I honestly felt being female and during the pandemic I was not about to be traveling to various locations. I returned and he put a new timing belt in at half the price of the dealership quote! I am so happy to found Bob Li and John at Armstrong Auto Service. Brought my 2022 Mazda 3 in for a brake inspection due to a humming noise when lightly braking. Paid…read more$120 for the inspection. The technician's written assessment: "Brakes are 50% life." When I asked for specific measurements, he said all four pads are at 6mm. By industry standards, 6mm pads have 1.5-2 years of life remaining and do not need replacement. Despite this, the verbal recommendation was to replace all 4 pads and 2 rotors for $440. When I asked how long I could continue driving, the answer was vague: "1 to 5 months depending on driving style." The claim that "all four pads are at 6mm" doesn't make physical sense. Front brakes carry 60-70% of braking force and typically wear about twice as fast as rear brakes. On a 2022 Mazda 3 with 51,000 miles, front pads should be noticeably thinner than rear pads, about a 2-3mm difference is normal. "All around 6mm" would require front and rear to wear at the exact same rate, which contradicts basic vehicle physics. This makes me suspect the inspection wasn't actually performed with proper measurements. There's no indication the wheels were removed, and the technician offered the same number for all four positions when asked.
