I've been a loyal patient of McNew Dental for several years and have always appreciated the care I received -- until recently. This year alone, I've spent nearly $5,000 at their office. I had an appointment scheduled for a routine cleaning, only to be told I would owe $200 out of pocket.
I explained that my dental insurance covers two cleanings per calendar year, but I was informed that I had been placed on a "Perio-therapy" program that requires visits every three months -- a treatment plan I did not fully understand was outside the standard covered cleanings. Apparently, this has led to my benefits being exhausted, and now I'm being told I won't have coverage again until January 2026.
What's most frustrating is the lack of communication about how this would affect my benefits. I was never clearly informed that this plan would exhaust my annual coverage or result in unexpected out-of-pocket expenses. Now I'm being told that I can't be seen unless I pay out of pocket -- despite having insurance that should cover two cleanings a year.
Unfortunately, this experience has left me feeling dismissed and financially taken advantage of. It's disappointing to be treated this way after years of loyalty and significant financial investment in my dental care. read more
