I came here one hungover morning searching for a cure for my pounding head. I had been here once before for some coffee and wound up buzzed up all day long. I decided this was the best place to get a decent breakfast. The owner was there again and as usual she was very friendly. When my coffee arrived I almost got swallowed up in the vastness of the large cups. The cup size leads to one being invited into the cup to drink of it's warm, brown goodness. I am sold on this place. Good food, decent coffee, fast, friendly service, free wifi and it is only blocks from my house! If you need to find me I can be found in the back working off my debt that I will surely go into if I continue to come here so often. read more

Ahh vegan cream cheese! Through a series of unfortunate events I was on antibiotics with strict orders for no dairy -- so what do I start craving? A lox bagel with cream cheese! Of course I thought this was a pipe dream but I figured I'd stroll through yelp and see what the beautiful city of San Francisco had to offer me and that's where I stumbled upon this gem. I got the lox bagel with vegan cream cheese and my boyfriend got some regular breakfast sandwich also on a bagel. Within the first bite I was hooked! The cream cheese is absolutely amazing, you can't even tell the difference! I definitely plan on going back and even without the need to avoid dairy I'll be ordering the VCC; check it out you won't regret it. :) read more

Makes me feel great to be alive, to live in the Mission. Everyone here is so nice and everything is just right. I need to try more of their food but so far the empanadas and pastries and pasts salad are good. Fair trade! Organic! Great prices that make you wanna tip extra well! Sure it's a bit pricy for food, and not the strongest coffee- but it deserves 5 stars and here's why: Every cafe in SF is trendier and trendier. They all need to try something extreme to out-do the last new cafe. Sure it's kinda fun at times- but I was about to go back to Starbucks just to order without having to wonder what the barista thinks of me based on my order. This place is just a comfy cafe with bi-lingual staff (no ear plugs and tattoos) who sincerely don't care what you order. 5 stars for not caring!! read more

Decent place for a quick breakfast such as a bagel. Get the breakfast bagel on Asiago with bacon or sausage and you'll be happy. BUT...Stay away from the coffee. Mission is known for hipster/excellent coffee shops and this place just doesn't cut it especially for calling itself a cafe. My husbands regular coffee and my cappuccino were pretty bad that we left them 3/4 full and went somewhere else after. Service was nice and friendly though. We may just be coffee snobs ;) read more

the people that work here are ridiculously nice. the coffee is priced fairly, and the sandwiches are quite good. the only reason i cannot give them a full five stars is that i have never found L's to be conducive to studying due to the music. hell, conducive to studying.. i would say the music is not even conducive to sandwich eating, coffee drinking, or much else really. i find myself frequenting the cafe a lot, but i tend to get my goods to go. read more

I came here and ordered the breakfast burrito and was appalled by what I received for $6. The breakfast burritos here are the pre-made somewhere else, meaning not fresh and full of preservatives. I expected more for a $6 breakfast burrito, I'm going to head back to St. Francis and pay a couple more dollars for a breakfast burrito that isn't pre-made and heated up in the microwave for me. read more

This is a great cafe to study or meet friends. The people that work there are super nice. Good coffee & tea, and good food the few times I've gotten it (though I usually just get drinks). Lots of options - coffee, tea, sandwiches, soup, salads, pastries, wine. Nice environment, cool art on the wall including local artists and art from indigenous or leftist struggles. Also, they treat their employees well. This unfortunately is something special in the food industry. L's caffe was one of only a few places that got an award/good ratings in the 2011 "dining with justice guide" by young workers united. My only complaint is that occasionally the music is not great. But overall I really like this place! read more

I experienced L's luncheon menu - chose Grilled Vegetable Panini - Portobella mushroom, zucchini, eggplant, white onions, queso fresco & pesto sauce on focacia with rosemary. Loved every bite! They make fresh pesto each day. And it came with two small salads, a potato salad with tasty complex flavor, perhaps a sour cream dressing, and a fresh fruit salad, both indeed fresh and well prepared with organic ingredients. Good value was there, and I hope to share this place with friends often. These ladies are delightful, friendly and dedicated to keeping us well fed, healthy and happy. read more

When I used to live in the MIssion my main coffee shop was Atlas Cafe. Since I moved to San Diego and make my way back for visits I now frequent Progressive Grounds and L's Caffe. I take turns between the two and like them for different reasons. But I wrote my review for PGC so now it's L's turn. I love the croissant sandwiches!! I like the small quiet atmosphere, and it's so chill there!! It's located on a busy section of 24th St. so if you look out the window long enough you'll see some interesting things. And the hipster ratio is pretty low here so my blood won't broil from sight of a guy in skinny jeans and pubic hair mustache. read more

Directly across the street from Sugarlump, but boy what a different vibe! L's is friendly, bright and definitely has a neighborhood feel. The folks who own the place seem to be quite a fixture and know a lot of the regulars. The layout of the coffeeshop is kind of weird in the sense that you have to walk all the way to the back and around a counter area to get to the register and order drinks/food. Much like the vibe in Cafe La Boheme, L's Caffe has a rich mixture of local peeps, hipsters chilling out and a gaggle of pals either a) having a good ol' time or b) trying to have a meeting since they are pals who also happen to be co-workers. I'm sitting here on a sunny Wednesday afternoon and this is the current environs. The ladies behind the counter appear to be happy and content (always a good sign). I came here a couple of times in the morning, searching for some breakfast. I've gotten bagels three different times and they've been fresh all of the times. I really don't have much to say about the bagels besides they're good and pretty average. As for the coffee...now thats a different story. The first time I got iced coffee, it was average (nothing spectacular) but it fulfilled my caffeine need. The second time, however, I got iced latte and it was terrible. I couldn't tell if it was the coffee or the milk but something about it did not taste right. I don't think the milk was spoiled or anything but something about it was off. I ended up having a couple of sips and just throwing the rest away. So my advice, if you're here to get food, then go for it! If you want coffee and are picky about it, then I'd advice you go somewhere else. read more

i love that this super mellow, calm, unpretentious coff shop is right across the street from the uber-hip, equally mellow (but vaguely pretentious) sugarlump. (though i can't lie -- i do my fair share of hanging at sugarlump, too.) i enjoy patronizing L's, though, because of the authentic atmosphere. another plus: they have actual food (soups, salads, sandwiches) instead of just, like, bagels and banana bread. i also like that it's woman-owned (don't quote me on that, but i'm 85% sure), has free wifi and has a true local neighborhood feel. read more

I was so happy when L's opened up a few years ago. I moved to the Mission in 2002 & for years I wished for a great little locally owned coffee shop & cafe. L's is all that & so much more. The place has a real soul. Music & poetry events, art exhibits, great folks working there, customers from all walks of life & ethnicities, wonderful bagels, lots of vegan options, comfy big tables, free wi-fi & a book collection. I love this place. Coming here gives me a chance to directly support everything I love about this neighborhood. Plus they are open early & late, so I can come in for an early morning soy latte after a run or stop by on my way home for a relaxed glass of wine. read more

L's caffe is a quaint little cafe that I frequent on lazy sundays and the occassional weekday night. This is the only cafe in the area that I know of that has real food which is not in cookie or pastry form. But don't get me wrong, they have an awesome tres leches cake. read more

L's is a great place to catch a BEC (that's bacon egg and cheese for y'all who don't know) on a bagel after grabbing a coffee at philz. it's a few blocks down, and I've only been here on mornings around 9am, no wait, and there is wireless, but for some strange reason the cell phone service kinda sucks here. Family owned and one of the best (if only) places to get a small hot breakfast in this neighborhood that doesn't really come alive til the afternoon. read more

I love this place and I go here too much. But everything is so tasty and Lourdes and friends are so nice and my word this place is just so freaking cute and homey and glowing with lurv that I just can't help myself! In addition, they use very pretty plates. It depends on how YOU like your coffee, but personally I drink coffee because it's warm and it's a vehicle for milk. I don't like especially dark or bitter roasts, and L's cafe (be prepared for a cute word play) OLE, is just the way I like it. Get it? Au lait! Ole! Ha! okay... The food offerings are very diverse and well priced for such a tiny place. Great bagels (with vegan cream cheese! so yummy, and they have apricot preserve as well as your regular strawberry jam, good with peanut butter), sandwiches, pastries, salads and soups. One of my favorite items, the seasonal fruit and greens salad, is like something you'd get in a fancy bistro, with beautiful fresh frui,t (maybe berries, oranges, kiwi...see it changes because it's SEASONAL) queso fresco and avocado slices. My absolute favorite thing though, that thankfully they don't have all the time, is the bread-pudding-in-the-form-of-a-muffin-with-apricot-jelly-and-almonds-on-top. Ridiculous. L's gets all my lovin. And one more thing, they do have a frequent coffee card but you have to ask for it. I probably had ordered enough to earn a free Ole by the time I realized they had them. Okay, actually two more things I guess. I've noticed that this a good place for kids. The staff is friendly and seem to enjoy interacting with the tots I've seen come in. It's pretty to easy to navigate with a stoller (except for the steps you have to go up to order, but they will bring your food and drinks), there are fruit smoothies and hot chocolates on the menu, and as this is not one of those cafes where everybody there is intently focused on a laptop, so I don't think anyone would make you feel uncomfortable bringing in the young ones. read more

Stopped in here while waiting for a bit, the coffee alone made it worth the trip.. I mean seriously, it is hands down the tastiest coffee I have had in a LONG time.
