Being well aware that they have a play area upstairs should be a big hint. And then I had to get a straw to search for tea bags, because it tasted like hot foamy water and I was convinced they'd forgotten to put the tea bags in. Well, they hadn't. There was one tea bag. My standard of comparison is Gusto over by Longview, which makes the best tea fogs in town. They use two tea bags and it tastes like heaven. Whatever they served me at Whistle Stop tasted like perfumed water. So overall, I give it a 3/5. Points for location and decor and nice chairs. But the main attraction should be the drinks, and they were both kinda terrible. And there's just no excuse for serving someone 2/3 of a cup when we're paying $6 for a small drink.

Scout Coffee is my saving grace while I am in Blue Springs. Their coffee is excellent, as good as some big dogs (like Onyx Coffee, Black and White, Intelligentsia, or Counter Culture). Great flavors. Great pour over options. Wonderful seasonal drinks that are not too sweet (although I wish they used better syrup, like Pink House Alchemy). They also serve some bakery items (limited) that are very good! I love their cinnamon sugar posh tart. The atmosphere of the shop is eclectic but comfy. Weird decorations, but it works. In the warmer days, the front porch is a great place to sit and visit with friends, or read a good book. They have good merch options and sell their coffee by both the bag and the bucket. The Ahadu special 20oz consists of 4 shots of espresso which his technique of grounds is not overbearing, but it wasn't bitter as he gave me a cup of straight Java. The additional ingredients are caramel, vanilla and two nuts of which he'd only reveal one... almond. It was such a delicious and delightful mixture.
