I came across Kinship Cafe online and decided to check it out and I'm glad I did. The space is welcoming and perfect for everything from a casual coffee catch-up to a quiet work session. The owner was incredibly kind and even crafted a custom steamer drink for my son, who happily declared it "a taste of Christmas in his mouth"... lol. I ordered one of their specialty drinks, the Cinnamon Delight, and it was smooth, flavorful, and exactly what I needed to start my day. They recently moved from the Strawberry Hill neighborhood to Independence, and I'm glad they're here. Now that I know what's on the menu, I just might swing by the drive-through next time. Whether you're local or just passing through, Kinship Café is worth a visit. I'll be back!

Lovely cafe and I believe it is a community center as well. My boyfriend and I stopped in for a quick breakfast and were delighted by the food we had. We split the roast beef Sammie and scrambled egg wrap- both were hot when we got it and tasted great for food that was premade. Matcha was decent as well & Service was excellent too. Inside is big and there's a lot of seating options, I'd definitely return to study or hangout with friends over coffee.

First day of a new job Lunch!…read more New to this side of town and stopped in here for a little comfort of something I recognized. The Atmosphere - Well it was clean and tidy. Again there is little personality to most locations these days yet the functionality and the ability to clean quickly is at a premium. But, there is little about the restaurant that is comfortable or memorable. So this gets the standard 3 stars. The Staff - I had the good fortune to interact with several of the staff members this time. And ALL of them were extremely nice, kind, and friendly. They went out of their way to check on me several times and remind me that I could get a refill on my drink. They gall at the checkout even offered to bring me the desert that I had on rewards that was set to expire soon. Some of the best Customer Service I have seen in a while. - 5 stars. The Food - Well this is the number one reason to swing in. They have a number of great creations and options to pick more than one. They do let you customize a sandwich should you want. I think this is as good as it gets (unless you head to a "real" deli where YOU decide what is on the sandwich. This visit I had the Pick 2 (which is common) where I had a fantastic Club sandwich and a Chef salad. Pretty healthy over all. (I used extra dressing and ate brookie bites so scratch the healthiness). 4 stars Overall - This was a fantastic visit to an old favorite. The food could have just a little more wow... and by now you all know how I feel about the clean/institutional look and feel of eateries. A perfect lunch space. I'll be back often as they are good, healthyish, and close.

It seems to be Hy-Vee on steroids as far as size and mass of merchandise choice. However, today, I want to compliment their Salad Bar. DD#1 and I were working out at Planet Fitness and our poor planning allowed both of us to neglect having anything to eat before our session, so we were pretty hungry by the time we walked out the door. It turns out Hy-Vee has a very well stocked Salad Bar. All the fruits and veggies were super fresh and there were an excellent selection of 'add-ons' and at least eight types of salads, such as pea salad, broccoli salad, potato, macaroni as well as several others. Protein sources were plentiful, as well, and included julienned ham, sliced grilled chicken breast, hard boiled eggs and more than one type of shredded cheese as well as red kidney and garbanzo beans. The only minor down side of our experience was that they had neglected to put more dinner size plates out after the lunch rush and, although, another diner pointed that out to a deli employee, no large plates ever appeared during the time we were there. Not a huge problem and I would definitely go to the salad bar again one of these days.

Cafe Verona should be on more people's radar when it comes to Italian food in KC. Plus, it's nice to get a drink next door at the Sentinel before you head in for a delicious dinner. P.S. It was snowing and cold, and I was there about 6 or 7 minutes before opening. They were kind enough to let me in, sit at the bar, and take an order for a drink before they were actually open. Since it was cold, the lasagna soup sounded fantastic, and it did not disappoint. It was so good. I highly recommend it. My bartender was obviously super friendly (letting me in early), and the service, conversation, and attention I was given were spectacular. It's a fun place to look around. Decorations are interesting. It has a unique charm. My main course was excellent, as was my dessert. I had to go all out for this lunch, not because I needed to eat that much, but because I couldn't say no to anything that was put in front of me If you're looking for a fun place with great food and people, this is a good spot to go.
