I am not sure if it is a staffing shortage or if staff keeps leaving because of the doctor, but…read moreforget getting records sent to a PCP, I have been trying for months. The appt itself was good, Dr. Chada appeared to take me seriously, excellent bedside-manner. She ran a slew of tests which was great, the not-so-great part is it took about an hour for her office to send the orders for the draws. I had to go back over twice to see what the issues were, no one ever could say. Two tests came back with massive warnings on them and then I was blown off entirely and told that the tests did not mean anything. The comments on the tests were not sophisticated in nature and only appeared after a month when I said "WTF is up". Almost seemed more like office staff trying to cover up missing calling me. I was highly annoyed with the assumption of diabetes and high cholesterol, BTW all came back with flying colors (check Quest). I am overweight because I hurt literally from head-to-toe and I am under an insane amount of stress, not because I sit around and eat bon-bons all day, but thanks for perpetuating the myth. My main issue is that at the appt in August, DR. Chada diagnosed fibromyalgia and said she would send the diagnosis and recommended prescriptions to PCP, that was in August, it is now December and I have made multiple requests and guess what my PCP still does not have? Rheumatologists are in high demand because there are not many of them, my guess is if she diagnosis you with a rheumatological issue she is likely excellent, if it is too iffy (ie low results on tests) then she is not going to have time for you. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt on a comment she made in respect to "not a great gene pool to start from"; I have said the same myself, but it still did not sit well the way it was said, almost felt more like a comment on the fact that I appear entirely of European descent. I have been called a "ghost" in the past (look it up, it is derogatory) and the tone and posture came a bit too close to past incidents for my comfort. She would have gotten a great review, but the inability to get the records to my PCP dictates a bad score, just maybe this review will result in those results going over.

Don't bother trying to schedule, she's entirely to busy to see new patients.read more

I'm new to Austin so it can be challenging to find a provider you feel comfortable with, especially…read moreif it is going to involve surgery. I moved here from CA and I knew plenty of Orthopedic surgeons and had considered even flying back out there. But a good friend highly recommended Dr. John Paul Rodriguez so I decided to give it a try. I had never had a knee problem but after my first visit, and imaging, it was determined I had a meniscal tear. The pain was pretty bad but I was able to walk with some assistance. When I met with Dr. Rodriguez again, he gave me a choice of surgery or waiting it out. Initially, wanting this to go away sooner, I opted for surgery. But as we were getting into scheduling the surgery, I had decided to wait it out and see if it would get better. After a full year, my knee pain had significantly improved, but I could still feel what I could only guess was the tear. It was worse with certain activities and it was starting to limit what I normally was able to do. So, after a year of conservative treatment, I decided to revisit Dr. Rodriguez. Something I really appreciated is they didn't make me start all over from square one. We essentially picked up where I had left things. I felt I did as much as I could to give the knee a chance to heal if it was going to but realized this was basically as good as it was going to get non-surgically. Dr. Rodriguez really listened to me and ultimately we agreed to go ahead with the surgery. A special thanks goes out to Madison Gaul, Dr. Rodriguez's surgery scheduler. She was exceptionally helpful in getting me scheduled on a date and time that worked for me. She was very clear about everything I needed in order to get clearance for the surgery and very accommodating with the scheduling. The day of the surgery could not have been more uneventful. I had surgery at their surgery center and everyone involved was very nice and did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable. I blinked my eyes and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. They had already called the person who was going to give me a ride and as soon as I was a bit more alert, I was able to leave. Post-operatively I really didn't know what to expect with respect to pain. I will call it "Tylenol" or "Ibuprofen" pain because that was all I needed that first night. My leg was wrapped in a compression dressing that I needed to leave on for 10 days until my next visit. And during the ten days, I was able to bear weight and didn't even need the crutches I had and never needed anything stronger than ibuprofen. At my first post-op appointment, all was well. They removed the sutures and addressed all of my questions which were primarily about when I could resume bike riding. It has been just a little over six months and I cannot say enough good things about this practice and Dr. Rodriguez. My knee feels so great, I often forget I had surgery this year. I don't regret taking the year to see if it would get better, but I am so happy I had the surgery. I am back to riding my bike 10 - 20 miles a day and have even done some long 30 mile rides. I have not needed to even take an ibuprofen in more than four months and my knee feels as great as the uninjured knee.

I find it necessary to leave this…read morereview here because I almost canceled my appointment for the rheumatology side because of what I read on the Pain Care page. I have been in remission from psoriatic arthritis for about 3 1/2 years. After a battle with the flu and bronchitis my immune system was shot. I ended up having a flare up in my knee; swelling, stiffness, and loss of mobility. I could only walk with the assistance of a cane or crutches. My husband and I have lived in Austin for 1 1/2 years and (because I had been in remission for quite a while) I never found a Rheumatologist here. I was in a panic when every single rheumatology office in Austin was booked through spring. Advanced Care was the last call on my list and I was thrilled that they could see me right away. Yes, it's a pain clinic and there's an eclectic crowd of patients, but I cannot say enough about how great the rheumatologist, Dr. Ahmed, was!!! He took a different approach to addressing my flare up than my rheumatologist back home and at first I was skeptical. However, I was 22 when I was diagnosed and am only 28 now; I only ever had one rheumatologist and never thought to question him because of the hospital he works for. After lots of research I realized that Dr. Ahmed's approach was really the safer one. Dr. Ahmed prescribed steroids and was hesitant to perform a joint aspiration right away. I've learned that the aspiration is seen as invasive treatment and can jeopardize the joint. Yes I was in pain and uncomfortable (Dr. Ahmed would have prescribed whatever to address that, I'm just pretty oppositional to painkillers) but in the end I am happier about Dr. Ahmed's approach. I'm so pleased with him as a doctor that I would leave 5 stars. The only reason why I didn't was the wait time on my follow up appointment (for 9:40AM and didn't get into a room until 10:30) My husband and I are leaving Austin, otherwise I would have very likely continued seeing Dr. Ahmed for my arthritis. I just want anyone looking for a rheumatologist to know that you can get great care here. Don't be dissuaded by the reviews geared toward the pain management side!

He also runs on time, which is unheard of in many doctors' offices. We are usually in and out in under an hour. I greatly appreciate his bedside manner and professionalism. I had a close friend see Dr. Parker for 18 years and Dr. Parker was always amazing to him, I mean really super impressively amazing to him. So impressively amazing to my friend that I recommended Dr. Parker to friends looking for a rheumatologist despite never seeing him until recently. Fastforward a few years since this close friend moved and me getting blood work back indicating an autoimmune issue might be present. Very naturally I asked for a referral to Dr. Parker. I literally looked forward to interacting with Dr. Parker after hearing about him for so many years. The appointment was more like an integration as to why I had an appointment at all. Dr. Parker also said that he sees Dr. Volpe and that Dr. Volpe is great. I promise you Dr. Volpe is one of the worst doctors that I have ever encountered, period and this is after living on 4 continents in 5 countries and being to an additional 33 countries. Not sure if it is because I am a women, if it was because I am overweight, or if he was having a bad day, or if he had COVID and it has impacted his functioning, or all four, but I can no longer recommend Dr. Parker. I hope that the appointment was an aberration; and, if not, that this review reminds Dr. Parker of the doctor he once was and how he has truly helped people in the past.
