Just moved to Long Beach from NYC and we are SO ecstatic to have this restaurant in the neighborhood. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you're in a friend's living room - it's cozy, well decorated, and the staff feel like friends. We ordered the steak tartare, cod fritters, duck sausage, short rib, and mushroom ravioli - all were OUTSTANDING. For dessert, we couldn't decide between the cheesecake or the apple pie and got both, and I'm so glad we did because it was the best cheesecake and apple pie I've ever had. It's so rare to go to a restaurant these days and have every single thing you eat be outstanding, so it really blew us away. The best part was getting to chat with the chef directly, and getting some free samples of various things while sitting at the chef's counter. Where to begin when you talking about Lost and Found? The best way to start is with the word "perfect". Merely saying Alexis (Head chef and owner) is a "wonderfully creative chef" is an insult to his artistry. I've been to Lost and Found multiple times and had the pleasure of this past Sunday (2/16/2020) of sitting at the chef's counter. Being this close to Alexis I was able to witness firsthand his mastery inside the beautiful open kitchen. While quiet French music played Alexis danced his way around the cozy kitchen preparing each and every dish with his full attention and care. He makes everyone who enters his restaurant feel comfortable and seen. Being a vegetarian people always ask me "what do you eat when you go out?" and at Lost and Found I've had the most unique and thoughtful vegetarian dishes. Crunchy fresh bread with salted butter, Rustic potatoes, broccoli shining like the star of a meal, garden fresh ratatouille and burrata that rivals the dishes I ate in Positano, Italy! I've only enjoyed dessert one time and I chose a decadent custard Paired with a cup of black coffee, it was the perfect way to end another perfect meal. Although I myself don't enjoy the dishes cooked with meat and fish just by the plating and murmurs from guests at nearby tables, I can confidently say you'll find something that will make you want to savor every bite! Lost and Found's dishes are meant to be shared so go with a small group! There may be a wait yet every minute will be worth it! Enjoy a glass of wine and marvel at the beautiful art covered walls! If you want a more intimate experience with the Chef (as I did) I do recommend you make reservations at the Chef's counter at least a week in advance. This is one of the best restaurants in all of NY and a hidden gem in Long Beach. It's usually packed and you for sure should make a reservation if you can, and request the chefs table for the best experience (only 2-3 people allowed per party). I have to admit I was hesitant on coming here because I was fearful that it wouldn't live up to their reviews. BOY, WAS I WRONG!!! This place is a hidden gem! They don't even have a sign to try and attract patrons. They don't need it. Their menu is based solely on the catches of the day . Who does that?! Genius . On Labor Day weekend with no reservation we were accommodated with a table outside which was perfect. We enjoyed the live action from the street and enjoy the music that they were playing inside. I am giving this a low rating not because of food but because they constantly mess up reservations. My husband had made a reservation for dinner on Mother's Day. He just got a call today asking why he had not show up today Saturday for dinner. He stated he made it clear the reservation was for Mother's Day when he originally called. Best spot in Long Beach, hands down! Adventurous eaters should DEFINITELY give this place a try. My girlfriend and I have been several times, and the ever-changing menu never disappoints. Just make sure you have a reservation (it's a small, busy place) and if you can - request the chef's table. You get a first hand look at your delicious dinner being crafted by the super friendly chef. Lost And Found offers mainly small plates, and the chef (trust me, you're gunna like this guy) suggests that you share each dish. About 4 plates are enough for a meal for 2 at a reasonable price. (4 plates, 3 glasses of wine was $107). On our most recent visit, we enjoyed a Farro salad with red & orange peppers, tomato, and olive oil (super refreshing); the chorizo - which was slow cooked in duck fat and served with fava beans & peppers; octopus tentacle which was super tender and tasty with smoked paprika and potato; and finished with an amazing pan seared/roasted Rabbit dish that was full of herbs, radish salad, and pomegranate in a delightful glaze. Make sure to save room for dessert! The creme brûlée was just perfect and a great closer for the day experience. Overall, Lost And Found gives you the best bang for your buck and offers menu items/combinations I don't see anywhere else in the area. I'll always go back! read more

My first time at L&F I was overwhelmed with the amount of reservations that were set on the tables. People trickled in like crazy and as other people have stated this place only has seating for a solid 25. So you'll only manage to get there early and get seated without a reservation on a weekday. Roll the dice-- it's fun. The menu is very simple and complex at the same time. If you're not sure-- ask questions. There's only two "family size" options at the bottom of the menu. The first 5 or so are considered side dishes and when you get to the "meats" those are your entrees. The server will tell you the specials for the day-- those are items not on the menu. Normally one is a side and the other is a entree. I suggest you try at least one of the specials for the day. Also fun. Everything can be shared between two people but I suggest (and they will too); that you order two sides and two entrees. All dishes are served one at a time so you can savor the flavor. I've had the octopus; that is delectable. I chewed on the pepper by accident and still loved it. The tiny slivers of garlic are incredible. Little cute chips of garlic. This portion is larger than others. The steak tartar can be difficult to muscle down if you're not into raw meat. If you are-- go for it tiger! It's great too! The cod was a special of the day and we ordered more bread to dip into the red sauce. It was alright. Same goes for the potatoes with the melted cheese. At first it was a wow factor then the cheese started to harden and it lost its flair. The winner is the duck. Super crispy on the outside and medium on the inside served with a side of fresh fries and mayo. Sooooooo good. The dessert menu has three options and honestly I'm not even sure how I managed to get to it. I just wanted to close my eyes and look away!! But I had the cake and it is HUGE. Creamy and perfect. The drizzle of crunch is amazing. Honestly everything they serve feels so well crafted and special. Shout out to the chefs! Easily one of the best meals I've ever had. I'm a fan. Overall, its 4.5-5 star joint. Very cool, down to earth head Chef/Owner who seems to really love what he is doing. The place is small so get a reservation in early. The food here is excellent. We came with a group of 4 and planned to share everything. A handful of smaller dishes (see pictures) were chosen along with the two largest (Rib Eye and Full Chicken). To start we received a selection of different house made breads. One of our guests ordered Apple/kohlrabi plate that was really simple and unique. Would love to have that again. The carrot side dish is perfect. Loved the melody of selections mixed in. Was also a fan of the crab crostini & red leaf Caesar. Dressing was made perfectly. The roast chicken was really phenomenal and I hate ordering chicken at any restaurant. The juices were soooo tasty. As for the rib eye, I can't comment but the table seemed to really enjoy it. I'd like to come back soon but will probably hold off till next seasonal menu change so I can try more. read more

I would rate Lost and Found four and a half stars. The ambiance and menu is quite comparable to Plancha in Garden City and Salumi in Massapequa. It has a modern, rustic decor with dim lighting, intimidate seating, and alternative music. It's certainly a great venue for a date. The waitstaff was extremely knowledgeable and attentive. Our waitress was wonderful. Her knowledge regarding the menu and wine pairings was comparable to what I'd expect from the aforementioned restaurants. We ordered tapas; the kitchen spaced out the tapas perfectly. As soon as we finished up with one, the next plate was ready for us. We ordered an endive salad, octopus, and steak tartare. I would highly recommend all three of these tapas. I was extremely impressed by how the octopus was cooked. It was tender and fell apart similarly to a scallop. Heard really great things about this place and finally gave it a try. They have no online menu, website, or anything so to make a reservation you have to call. I called on the day of just to see if they had any availability and luckily they did. We ordered the garlic broccoli, rustic potatoes, butchers steak, and NY prime. Garlic broccoli was SO good, nicely charred, soft, and flavorful, my only complaint is that it was doused in grease. Potatoes were also amazing, served in layers with aioli. Butchers steak was very good for the price, it's served with frites which were hot and crispy. This was definitely our favorite entree although be prepared with water because it was a little on the salty side. NY prime is served with bleu cheese butter which we read on the menu but thought it'd be served on the side (our fault for assuming). Unfortunately, the steak was completely doused in it. We didn't want to send it back but it was definitely ruined for us, if you like cheese and steak get it, but personally the flavors do not go for me. Lastly we got the apple crostata (basically apple pie) which was amazing. It was served with cream and some sort of caramelization which really brought all the flavors together. I could taste the cinnamon and cloves, really a perfect dessert for a cold night. Staff was very friendly and I would probably go back to try something different. read more

The Lost & Found, finally found, but wish I lost it! For a long time I have been seeing all the hype, and the rave reviews. So my expectations are really high. I guess a lot can change over time? When they first opened up it was soooo hard to make a reservation. Now when trying to, I am told to just come in? We got to the place a little early to find some parking. We walk in and it looks like the place was packed already! Nope, it was an illusion, workers having a meeting. Anywho the place is the size of a small formal dining room. Actually, maybe a walkin closet. We were greeted by our server Steve, very friendly and informative, the main reason for the the star. He went over the specials, and the dining style. They are small plates, but not tapas. We told him we were interested in the ribeye steak. He informed our group that it will take a very long time for it to cook, as it is a thick 40oz cut of meat. So instead of waiting we choose to go with the smaller plates. All of us shared the shaved root vegetables, the truffled potatoes, and the flat iron steak. As we are waiting for our food, and it begins to get darker, one of my friends has this spot light on her face. It got so bad she had to put on her sunglasses! Our waiter was not around so I look in the direction of the light. It's coming from the kitchen area. So I walk over and asked the cook nicely if he can turn it off, that it's in her eyes. He flat out says no, and says he needs it to see to cook. I mean, your a great expensive restaurant, and you are using a desk lamp to see what your cooking? You know what really grinds my gears? Practically all the cooks have long hair, and none of it is capped off. So as they are playing around in the kitchen, the hair is flying! So as for the light situation, our waiter Steve comes over, and at the same time the cook points the light down!? It was a little better but still uncomfortable. So for the food. First item that comes out is the shaved root vegetables. I know the menu said a horseradish dressing, but wow everything was practically coated in horseradish. That was a ridiculous. So after setting that to the side the steak and the truffled potatoes come out. The steak was ok. It could of been hotter, but the peppercorn sauce was decent at best. The truffled potatoes are simply fried potatoes covered in cheeses, truffle oil, and WAY over salted. Now for the final round. Dessert. Usually the best part. We ordered the Profiteroles. They are basically cream puffs. These were $10 for 4 puffs in a chocolate sauce. These tasted like the same ones at target, and those are $3 for a dozen. To me the food was mediocre at best, the atmosphere I can see being cozy, but there are also health violations I feel as well. I do not see my friends or myself returning anytime soon. Don't get me wrong I'm all about supporting the local mom & pop place, but this experience is what will push people away. As you read this review, it is obvious I will not be back! read more

Very cool spot in the west end of LB. Reminds me of Swallow in Huntington before they expanded. Call for reservations ahead of time bc there are only a handful of tables (get the chef's table!). L&F has a very Williamsburg-y feel and a friendly, community type vibe from the patrons. Like you're all in the cool club bc you found the place. The shades are down, lights low, great soundtrack in the background, open kitchen is firing away.. it's a cool scene amongst the riff raff of Beech St. To the food! I rocked a garlic roasted chicken for two ($45), zucchini salad ($10) and truffled potatoes. The salad was excellent. Lots of fresh ingredients in a nice vinaigrette and then covered in cheese. Watch out for the pickled shallots though. They're delish, but will ruin your game for the rest of the eve. I was fighting for the curry fried chicken, but my date would run for the hills of I ordered that, so we settled on the garlic roasted chicken. So happy we did. It was incredibly moist and flavorful. Even the driest parts of the bird were tasty when dipped in the leftover au jus that settled on the plate (more more!). The potatoes were good too, however the cheese on top took away from any truffle flavor I could find. Not that it mattered, I ate 90% of those crunchy bad boys anyway. The place is small, so you can always find your server and they are friendly as can be. My only criticism... - Most of the seating here is on stools and they are some of the worst I've sat on in a long while lol (can't believe I'm writing about a stool). But seriously, they are TINY and my date and I had to get all shifty to get comfy on them (and we're not big peeps). Protip: As of now it's CASH ONLY and BYOB :) Do it! read more

It's hard to understate how great this place is. My family and I come here about once every two weeks for dinner. I eat all over the New York area and this is by far the best restaurant I've ever been to. The food is incredible, the vibe is chill and the people are super sweet and provide great service. First off they treat you to a delicious appetizer (gratis) of grilled buttered French bread, and cucumbers marinated in garlic, oil and vinegar, and I cannot wait to return. We sat at the chef's table and chatted with the chef, and watched him cook our food. . Best pork chop ever, and the branzino was so delicious. All the servers were super friendly and knowledgeable. Music was not intrusive, and the atmosphere was rustic and comfortable. We felt very welcomed. Extensive wine list, didn't see any cocktails listed. On April 21st, I went to Lost and Found with three other people (a 4-person party) for brunch. We all ordered individual meals (two orders of the bacon slab with eggs and home-fries, an order of avocado toast, and the shakshuka) and then ordered some ricotta pancakes for dessert. The shakshuka is a dish that they bake for a little while, so that took the longest to make. They brought out the three other brunch items and then I waited 10 minutes, pretty much everyone was done with their food, when they finally brought my meal out. After 2 minutes of bringing out my meal, they then brought out the ricotta pancakes which were supposed to be for dessert, but I had only just started eating my meal. There was no apology for delaying my meal or bringing out the dessert when I had only just gotten my food. This wasn't the best experience, especially when this was a birthday brunch with my family. The following night, which was my actual birthday (April 22nd), we had decided to go back because maybe this was a fluke. We ordered two glasses of wine and two entrees at first. One dish was sausage with mashed potatoes and the other a pasta dish with guanciale. After getting the food, I started to mix the pasta only to see no pieces of guanciale inside. After a couple of minutes, I asked the waitress if there was any guanciale inside the dish after telling her I didn't see any. She went and asked the chef and he said that he had put the guanciale in the dish and she then brought out a cold cup of the guanciale to add to the dish. After seeing the pieces she brought out, there was no way that guanciale was placed in the pasta and now I have to put it in myself after I waited so now not only is the guanciale cold but the whole dish is now cold. After we finished our meals, we asked the waitress what they were offering for dessert. There were two options, an apple pie and a box cheesecake. We asked for cheesecake. After 15 minutes a different waitress brings out an apple pie. We didn't order an apple pie and I must say I don't think the two options can be confused when hearing them, but now instead of sending it back we just ate the apple pie since we had waited a while for that to bake instead of them just slicing a piece of cheesecake and bringing it to us. After this encounter, I didn't feel like there was much hope for returning but in the past, I had never experienced anything like this from here since I have come numerous times in the past without any issues. Instead of never returning, we again tried it out on May 17th, this past Friday. Without fail we were disappointed yet again. We ordered the risotto as an app and two entrées, the peppercorn sauce filet and the chicken. The risotto was very tasty and when the meal finally came out my filet was cold. I truly wasn't sure if maybe this was how they were serving it so when the waitress came back to check on us, I had asked her if this dish was supposed to be luke warm/cold. She told me no and took the plate away. After a few minutes the dish came back out with significantly less sauce than before, and now the filet being over done because they just placed the pieces back onto the grill to heat them up. There was no longer a color to the meat after having ordered it medium rare and the waitress had taken my steak knife without bringing another one back out with the dish. She noticed I didn't have one and told me she would be right back with one, I waited 5 minutes until I then used my partner's knife in fear that my food would again become cold. She only returned with a knife after I had completely finished the meal. Just like every time, there was no apology, no effort of a resolution, and no accountability taken for the errors. I no longer have a hope or want to return to this establishment and wish there was just some kind of effort to make up for all the errors but there has been no accountability taken for any of the errors each time we have returned. read more

Found: a gem. Wonderful evening at Lost and Found. The food was exquisite. Flavors complemented each other well. The tapas plates were nicely sized. We had a last minute reservation filled on a cancellation and it could not have been a better experience. Everyone in the restaurant was obviously enjoying themselves; great vibe. Hard to describe the food: we had olives, the delectable mozzarella and stone fruit salad with a balsamic reduction. Then the garlic shrimp, octopus, chickpeas, grilled artichoke hearts and halibut on creamed cauliflower. The dishes were brought out as they were completed in the kitchen everything was fresh everything was hot that was supposed to be hot the cauliflower was insanely good and I don't even like cauliflower. The halibut was perfect and since I'm from Alaska I'm picky about halibut. The service was gracious, attentive, and relaxed. This was just an astoundingly good restaurant. Great customer service. Excellent food. We didn't have reservations and this is a tiny restaurant. The hostess was very helpful keeping us informed about when seats would open up. The place is cozy and we were seated within 30 minutes at the counter. The mushrooms and seasonal vegetables were very good. Seasoned great with different textures. I think there were endives in the vegeatbles. The stripped bass and flank steak were delicious. Bread pudding and vanilla custard excellent. Medium sizes portions and gormet cooking. I was so excited to finally try this place out - had it bookmarked for months! Our visit started off on a really good start. The restaurant itself is cozy, staff is friendly and attentive. The complimentary bread and tzaziki sauce were delicious to start - we then ordered the steak tartar, grilled octopus, cod croquettes, duck confit and roasted cauliflower. To make a long story short - I'm salt sensitive and found everything very salty, but I knew something was wrong when my husband (who salts everything) also found everything incredibly salty. We couldn't even eat the octopus bc of the saltiness....and that was one dish that we were really looking forward to. The waitress was kind and took it back and removed it from our bill. The owner/chef was very nice and seemed to say goodbye to everyone that left the restaurant. I hate to only give two stars as everyone there was nice (and everyone else seems to looove this place) but, my experience with my meal was very very underwhelming (and incredibly salty). read more

HUGE seared scallops, seared to perfection, Salade Nicoise: SO colorful with green, green asparagus and so-blue potatoes, topped by sunny yellow hard-boiled egg halves, and tuna that, unfortunately, tasted like it came from a can (dry, too dense), duck breast that was beautifully pink inside and well sauced outside. Roasted okra served in an Asian-themed bowls that arrived looking not too delectable but tasted terrific! The Hawaiian-"style", sushi grade tuna poke (pokay) was melt-in-your-mouth spot on! Make a reservation early, sit at the "captain's table" (bar height counter with 4 stools), so you can watch your food prepared in front of you.
