As far as I know I have now tried every Mexican restaurant in Coldwater. I like all of them for different things and depending on what I am wanting that will determine which one I choose. But tonight I have decided this restaurant to be my favorite of the bunch based on stellar service alone. I have lived in three out of the four southwestern states that border Mexico and even spent four years of college in Texas. It's not very often that I get a Mexican restaurant up north willing to take a special request and try to copy and make my favorite salsa I used to get in Texas. This restaurant did, in spite of how strange the server thought it sounded. But they didn't just copy it, they did a near-perfect duplication and instantly created a regular loyal customer. My husband and I were impressed with the outside Decor. Walking is was even more vibrant and comfortable as well. The waitresses was very attentive and meals were quick. Seen a couple "Birrea" dishes on the menu and was excited. My husband got a burrito that was bigger than him... lol. As I was seated; I glanced at a couple that had huge soup bowls and the aromatics were spot on. Now , I'm no fan or Ramen but I ordered it anyway. Not disappointed at all! It was very tasty and had just enough spice to water my nose and the Ramen was plentiful enough for 2. Even went back a second time a week later.... Arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 12:15pm. Place wasn't very busy. 4 or 5 cars in the parking lot. I was seated immediately upon entering. My waitress came right to the table and took my drink order. She came back with my drink, chips and salsa. I placed my order. The chips and salsa were okay. I added a little hot sauce to it. Withing 5 minutes my order arrived. That was FAST! I had the super burrito. The shredded chicken in it was very tasty. They didn't skimp on the lettuce, tomato and sour cream either. Stopping for lunch on our way home from Firekeepers and thought, let's try something new. Pulled off the highway in Coldwater, MI and found this little spot right off the exit. First impression?? Not eating here! Went to the men's room, and it was gross. I'll spare you the details, but it was not clean at all. But maybe they didn't know it was left a disgusting mess by a patron? We will push on and give the drinks and food a try. Damn glad we did! Their chips and salsa are unique and tasty. Can't put a finger on it, but for free chips and salsa....maybe the best we've ever had! That's saying a lot! Drinks were great... don't even remember what I ordered, but it came in a clay pot. It had tequila, grapefruit soda, and Grand Marnier with a rim of Tajin. Delicious! Wifey got the Mango Tango. While it was tasty, it looks nothing like the picture on the menu. It was a frozen drink, and it was melted in a matter of minutes. Finally, lunch came. Got the pork tamale and wifey the ground beef enchilada. Both came with beans and rice. Both were very satisfying. Very happy with our choices. All in all, glad we stopped. A couple things weren't up to par. But lots of things were better than expected. PS... We ordered the jumbo burrito. It did not disappoint. It was huge. Stuffed full of beef, beans and rice. Topped with lettuce, tomato and sour cream. It was very delicious and enough for two people. Food is wonderful! Ordered the fajitas with chicken, steak, chorizo and shrimp. Service was a little slow but I think they had a rush and didn't have enough servers at that time. Server was friendly, but even though the restaurant wasn't busy, she only checked on us once after we received our food-ignoring the need for refills. Fabulous find in Coldwater! Friendly, delicious food - my husband eats here at least once a week when in town. Today he had the lunch #1 - rellleno and a taco, rice and beans- I had that last time. Today I opted for carne asada tacos- wow! Wrapped in foil to keep the double soft corn tortillas warm and the meat steaming hot. Served with green Chile and pico de Gallo and a side of received topped with a bit of cheese. After 30 years in NM, this is soul food to me. We will keep coming back! read more

It has been years since my review of Coldwater's ethnic pearl. What prompted me to make an update was their new menu., which is greatly improved compared to the old rustic menu. Now they have photographs of many of the especialidades Los Tequilas. It seems that many of the of the entres from the flagship cantina(Riviera Maya) in Portage, Michigan have been imported to be served at LT. I cannot stress enough how comfortable it is to dine at this establishment. The interior of this antique railroad grain warehouse is just fascinating. It usually takes several visits and some exploration both upstairs and downstairs to determine the historic significance of much of the interior of this old structure. Being halfway between Detroit & Chicago the old steam locomotives stopped here to take on water and coal. The passengers would disembark and entertain themselves at the nearby Tibbets Opera House. This evening the Wife went with a selection of off the Platos del Mar section and had the camarones al mojo de ajo which is shrimp spiced with butter, onions, and garlic. It is served with Mexican rice and guacamole salad. She, nonetheless, has a new favorite. I on the other hand ordered a chicken dish, pollo ranchero, which is a shredded grilled chicken breast smothered with queso (cheese) & a touch of ranchero sauce. Served with Mexican rice,retried beans, lettuce, sour cream and fresh tomatoes. For .50 more you can have it topped with grilled onions, which I will try next time. I have several other dishes I am going to attempt also such as the burrito Monterrey which looks like a the Mexican flag. We were both pleased with tonight's spread. The only complaints I would have are the enormous quantity of each of the meals. I could not finish mine so had to pass on desert. I had my eye on a cheesecake chimi which I will put on reserve. The other is they have no Mexican pasty offered. Most of the cuisine seems to originate in Jalisco and Quintana Roo not the silver mining states. Just a hint Los Tequilas. read more

Ok. Here it is. I rate places on what they 'should' deliver, based on promises and assumptions. I didn't come to local Mexican in an old train depot in rural MI hoping for either 100% authentic Mexican (for that I find the local Mexican grocery and ask for recs) and I wasn't looking for nuanced hipster-sheik Mexican either. When I'm spending $100 per person out for dinner somewhere, I expect service at that level. I did not expect that here, but based on what should be delivered in a family Mexican restaurant, I had fantastic five-star service! People are way too hard on them in their Yelp reviews. I wanted a nice family place I could get beers and reasonably priced combo plates and good service and I had a 5/5 star dinner. 3 adults and 3 kids for $45 plus a generous tip. Lots of cool books to explore. Keep up the good work and enjoy this local place for Mexican-American good food and service. read more

Very disappointing. Took too long to be served, too long for the check, too long for everything. They were barely half full, a full restaurant must be a nightmare. Menu was deceptive. I ordered an item described as chicken wrapped in a corn tortilla, and it came out with gross peppers and onions, and slathered in cheese (none of this was mentioned on the menu.). The flan came out with candy sprinkles, I kid you not, candy sprinkles? The space is cool to sit in, an old train depot. But it's the only good part about this place. I likes the historical train depot where the restaurant is located. I liked being totally surprised by my whole experience. I was one of only three tables on a Tuesday evening. The service was friendly and attentive. I chose a rare and seldom found dish- a mocajete lava bowl piled with steak, shrimp, chorizo and onions and peppers. Frankly, I was suspicious it was going to be good. I was floored with the quality of preparation, contents and presentation. They also accommodated me on my request for a "skinny" margarita. This is the second time that we have eaten here. We stopped here on our way back from Indiana. The restaurant sits between two odls railroad tracks and I think it used to be a railroad station. That would explain it's distinct layout. Now I have to say that the service was much faster than the first time that we ate here. It was about five minutes from the time we ordered until we got our food. The plates were very hot. The food was good and tasty. I had the Mexico Special which was a chicken burrito covered in white cheese with rice and beans. My wife had the the fried chimichanga with beef tips. Our daughter got the #6 combo. The portion sizes were good. We all had food left on air plates when we were done. My wife really liked the cheese on her chimichanga. She was eating that by itself with the chips. That brings me to the chips and salsa that they brought out. The chips were thick but the flavor was off. They tasted more like bulk food service chips. The salsa was okay but it was the thin blender type. I am more of a fan of chunkier salsas. My daughter thought it was funny that they filled the salsa bowls from a large two gallon pitcher. Salsa is runny & bland. I had the Pollo Loco, chicken was tough & dry, but they poured a tomato based liquid over it to moisten it I guess. The restaurant is located inside of an old railroad depot. It's a really neat place. They kept it old and cute. This restaurant makes the best fresh Mexican food! Flat out awesome service! We arrived at 8:30 on a Sunday night, and they were set to close at 9:00pm. Our server (Ivan) was the same guy that greeted us at the door - he was running around like crazy, but very happy to see us. He assured us there was no problem arriving 30 minutes before close - "I don't know WHEN we will actually close tonight! Come in!". He made some great recommendations off the menu (panchitos and Vallarta), both of which were awesome. The guy was super-attentive; every waiter could learn from him. Tortilla chips were warm, fresh and crunchy - and each person gets their own bowl of salsa - very cool!! The house margaritas are decent, little heavy on the mix. I used to really like this place when it first opened but then it just wasn't good anymore so I stopped going. Food was delicious and plentiful and the service was friendly and very spot on, accommodating. Would return and would recommend for sure. We used to really enjoy the food here. We stopped in today (haven't been here in at least a couple years) for dinner and I must say we are very disappointed. The food is very, very, bland. My husband had a burrito that he described as tasting much like "wonder bread and tomato sauce". I had a taco salad that was very tasteless and was very watery. Also quite pricey what you get. The wait staff however were friendly and efficient. Overall though, we can no longer recommend this restaurant. We won't be back. read more
