I must've driven past this place 1 million times, but the swordfish bolted to the sign out front always gave me a strange impression. Is this a seafood restaurant? Is this a sports store? We finally tried it out this afternoon and I was surprised at how large the interior is. They have a large menu, and a surprising ice cream bar. When they first brought our food to the table, we were both apprehensive. I had ordered eggs and ham, and the ham looked like sandwich meat. My guest ordered Menudo, and he said he likes more of a stew consistency, where this was very watery soup looking. Wanted to try some new Mexican food so came here for lunch. The reviews looked good so I decided to give it a shot. Street parking only so finding a spot during lunch may be a little tricky. Once I found a spot I walked in and looked at the menu then placed my order. Chips - Their chips were nice and crunchy. I know at times you can get stale chips but not here. Came with two small to go sides of a red salsa and a green. Both salsas were good and great flavor. Burrito - Burrito de carne asada was a disappointment. Tons of rice which I always order burritos with no rice but this time I forgot. Beans and lettuce salsa on the side. The carne asada was hard and chewy and really a disappointment. I knew it at first bite. Taco - Taco de alpastor. Now this was a surprise. I ordered al pastor and I was not expecting what I got. What I got looked and tasted like barbacoa. It was tasty but not what I was expecting. Nice size taco canoe in a regular corn tortilla. Orchata - Can you really complain about Orchata. It was nice and sweet and hit the spot. Lunch time, where to go, my friend suggested this place. I ordered the milanesa torta and fries. The torta was very tasty but I did not know that they put cilantro and I did say no salsa. But at least the cilantro didn't over whelm the flavor. One thing is that they only have a large order of fries which is a lot of fries. I've been in Pasadena for a year, and Los Primos is one of my go-to's for some of the best Mexican food in the area. This was the first time I've had wet burrito, but I'm absolutely hooked! I've had other items on their menu like the fish plate and quesadillas (both super delicious!), and I always go back to the wet burrito. The wet burrito comes with a bit of salad mix and small dollop of sour cream. They absolutely soak the burrito with their sauce which makes it so good! It's not your typical enchilada sauce or salsa. I'm not exactly sure what it is, but it's more like an incredibly flavorful broth! I'm a big fan of the chorizo and birria, but all their meat choices are fantastic. I typically get a wet burrito with an horchata, and my bill is typically around $15 (they deserve a nice tip!). What's even better is that the meal comes with a side of chips and salsa for free, which was a very nice surprise my first time here. I'll be going to Los Primos regularly for a while. read more

So this place has a name??? I've been coming to this place for more than 10 years and always thought it was called "Mexican Restaurant," because there's no marquee saying otherwise. Unless they wrote one up and I wasn't paying attention. I only go here for the tripa tacos. IMO, they are better than La Estrella's on Fair Oaks, but rival La Estrella's on Garfield/Orange Grove location. The key to good tripas is the grilling. They have to be nice and crunchy, but not over done or soft and soggy. Burnt or soggy = tripas fail. Not here, my friends. The tripas are nice and golden brown, and the salsa is amazing. The restaurant is located off of the corner on Orange Grove Blvd and Fair Oaks Ave--- across the street from the ghetto Vons, and next to a Chinese restaurant. Ok so this is the 3rd visit. Consistent AF, and can make a monster of a taco. Grew up in LA, I EAT TACOS. The carnitas tacos are my fav here. Al pastor and chicken are yum as well. Asada isnt as strong. Giving king taco the asada rights here but for $1.60 Los Primos is holding the taco crown down. LOVE this place. Authentic, CLEAN, nice seating area, clean bathrooms, street parking, tvs and they're friendly even though we are the only ones who dont speak spanish. Love that natives come here to eat. I've been here twice and each time was a huge disappointment. I really tried to give it a chance because I love Mexican food (especially when it's inexpensive & nearby), but I should've known by the lack of patrons that the food was terrible. I literally walk by Primos 3 days a week & it's always completely empty. Now I know why... The food is disgusting! AMBIANCE- Unwelcoming, average decorum, a ridiculously loud TV that no ones watching(1st visit), completely silent(2nd visit) & sticky tables. FOOD- I ordered several tacos & some horchata. My boyfriend had a beef burrito. Even though the restaurant was empty, it took 20 minutes for our food to come out. The carne asada was overcooked, tough & flavorless while the carnitas smelled & tasted rancid! I sometimes get my tacos without salsa, so I guess the sauce usually masks their meats unpleasant flavor? My boyfriend said his meat was overcooked & 'just gross'. The second time I went alone. It was the day that they make fresh tortillas, which were good but again the meat was inedible. I took two bites & got up and left. It wasn't expensive, but it was a complete waste of money. I ended up walking down the street to La Estrella (my usual 'go to' place for lingua & carnitas). SERVICE- The first woman who took my order was unfriendly... She spent a few minutes talking & laughing with her co worker while I stood patiently smiling waiting to order. When she finally turned to me, there was not a smile to be seen & she acted like I was inconveniencing her (maybe because they're not used to having any customers?). The second visit was a little better, a different woman took my order and the food came out quickly but it was terrible so who cares? IN CONCLUSION: I wouldn't recommend this place & I'm certainly never eating here again. read more
