Tacos

The food is delicious. We had huevos ranchero & 3 tacos. All were stellar. There's a condiment bar with great pico de gallo, salsa & veggies. The staff was super friendly & the food came quickly. There is plenty of seating both inside & outside and a drive-thru. Would definitely come here again!

Excellent carne asada burrito and accompanying hot sauce. Last time I had one that good I was in San Diego!

La Abuelita - Shrimp taco

La Abuelita

What a wonderful restaurant! The staff and decor were lovely, and the food was delicious. Be aware…read morethat their salsa is quite hot and chille-based. I had the Carne Asada burrito which was filled and stuffed with grilled beef, as well as onions, cilantro, lettuce, tomatoes, and guacamole. Next time, I'm here, I plan to try the abuelita's enchiladas!

La Abuelita had some good heart to it. The spacious real estate inside ended up translating to a…read morepre-dinner rush meal. it was very easy to take note of the swaths of different people the establishment welcomes, because it appears to be the best Mexican food for miles. Contractors, couples on a date, families - a bunch of different demos were represented the evening we showed up. I got the green chili chicken enchiladas, with rice and beans. My companion got a fried and dyed tilapia entree. My enchiladas were fire, and I'm just talking about the flavor profile. It's nice that a place like this did not pull punches with the heat quality of their sauces and salsas. Come to think of it, the complimentary house chips and salsa at the top of our meal also featured a hot salsa. We Angelenos loved the default style but it constantly had the alarms going off. Really, it was a good way to break in our palates because the green sauce managed to be even hotter. There were enough varied notes between the two iterations of heat to keep the meal interesting. My wife thought the tilapia was evenly fried. She didn't have as much fun with the rice and beans, the otherwise plain sides, but they helped get the whole tilapia down. This place fed us. It wasn't too hard to settle on a place that, from the Yelp outset, purported to humbly serve authentic Mexican fare. If you're passing through Rawlins like we were, and you're happy to have a meal, don't let this place pass you by.

We stopped into the location because it was close to where we were staying, and we were really…read morehungry. The building is divided into two areas, restaurant and bar. We opted to sit in the restaurant, since there was no one else in there. While we were there, several people came in and went back to the bar. We wondered if we should have sat in there instead since it was favored by the locals. We ordered appetizer to share between the two of us, and I ordered a cup of their chicken rice soup of the day. The soup was the star of my meal. I wish I'd gotten a bowl instead, since it had good flavor, and hit the spot. The appetizer, on the other hand, was underwhelming. I tried the deep fried mushrooms, cheese sticks, and buffalo chicken strips. The mushrooms were the best of this grouping. The cheese sticks had a funky, freezer-burnt flavor that I didn't care for. The buffalo sauce was way too spicy for my palate and the chicken strips were doused in it, so I couldn't even scrape it off to eat the chicken. My husband said the jalapeno poppers were pretty flavorless. I'm not sure how much longer this restaurant will be able to survive with little to no patrons, and lack luster food. I'm not planning to return.

So we did not see many options to eat in Rawling. When we got there there were a lot of cars in the…read moreparking lot. True some were junk cars but it looked ok. The reviews were a little harsh but we decided to give it a try. I had to laugh at the comments that the place should be called Crappies. I ordered the hamburger steak with salad and mashed potatoes. It was actually pretty good. It wasn't just a small hamburger patty but a good sized piece of meat. It was well seasoned but the mashed potatoes were from a box. If you are driving through and are desperate give this a chance.
