I'm giving this place 5 stars due to the bartender Kaycee. She was an absolute pleasure. Made us feel like one of the regulars and makes a mean drink. Also giving the dry rub wings 5 stars. Some of the best we have ever had. Ordered them the way Kaycee recommended with the Peppermill dry rub along with the frontier dipping sauce on the side. Damn good watermelon margarita too. read more

My husband and I stopped in Rawlins, WY overnight on our way home to Nevada. Looking for a diner-type restaurant for dinner, we decided on Penny's Diner. It looked absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, when we got there, the owner greeted us and said they were closed due to not having any staff. Saddened, we thanked her and started back towards the car. That's when she recommended the Peppermill just down the street. Hungry, we decided to take her recommendation, and so happy we did! The Peppermill is a typical bar with bar-height tables and chairs... but the food...? OMG!! Some of the best BBQ I've ever had! My husband had their 8oz Sirloin. If that was 8oz, they may need a new scale - it was at least 12oz and perfectly seasoned and cooked exactly the right way! I had their BBQ Sampler, because I just couldn't decide, and it was also fantastic. The brisket was delicious, the ribs melted in my mouth, the pulled chicken and pork with their house BBQ sauce was en pointe! Tie all of that in with the EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE, and you get the Peppermill! So, whether you're just passing through, or a permanent resident here in Rawlins, I highly recommend the Peppermill! We came here on the recommendation of the hotel down the road. The food was spot on. My son ordered the open faced Prime rib sandwich. It was huge and he ate everything on his plate exclaiming the entire time how delicious it was. My other two boys ordered the fried shrimp baskets. The shrimp didn't have the usually batter that you find on popcorn shrimp. It was thinner. It was very good. I ordered the club sandwich. It was huge and very good! Our server was excellent and attentive. I would recommend stopping if you want a satisfying meal. The atmosphere isn't great. It needs redecorating and some dusting. Look past it and give it a try. been going here for years. last night... food was horrible, the cook had a beard that would put Santa Claus to shame., just hanging there while he cooked. The Manager/Owner in the restaurant doing business on his phone and computer for everyone to hear. The waitress was a sweet person, but had to ask for straws, napkins, ketchup and boxes....each taking a few minutes each to get. No organization at all. Waitress was nice, however, very long wait for service. Salad was supposed to be a romaine spring mix and had iceberg in it and was old and brown. The chicken fried chicken was as thin as lunch meat. Both the chicken and the potatoes were a treasure hunt under the massive amount of gravy. To top it all off, you were constantly battling with the dozen of flies. This place is a dive if I've ever seen one. It could be the city girl in me talking, but something about it made me miss the city (it could also have been the long drive between denver and salt lake and seeing so much nothingness). The waitress was really sweet and nice. I think my favorite part of this lunch adventure was ordering mac and cheese as a side and clearly recognizing it as kraft mac and cheese when I got my food. Our server was great, very nice and talkative so giving two stars instead of one. Went in with very high expectations based off reviews and recommendations. Husband ordered a medium rare t-bone. Let's just say the dog enjoyed it much more than he did. Also his "homemade chili" was nothing more then cold Wolf Brand with cheese and onions thrown on top. I ordered their sliced brisket. It was as thin as turkey bacon, and even then took a good 5 minutes to chew each bite. I gave up after the 3rd or 4th bite. I tried the "homemade beans". I cannot stand Bush's Baked beans and that's exactly what they are. Our waiter later on said "well they tasted just like bush's but we make them". I jokingly said warming up canned beans and adding a few seasonings doesn't make them homemade. The appetizer sampler is decent. Looks can be deceiving. I wasn't expecting much upon parking and entering at the Peppermill, but I was pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was very good, and while she had about 10 tables, we never felt neglected. Having been a waitress myself, I pay attention to servers, and ours was excellent. She was friendly and attentive, multi-tasked between her tables, and never showed frustration over being very busy. The menu is like most small town bar and grills but gave lots of options. Having some diet restrictions I went with soup and salad. The green chili had just enough spice and had good flavor. The salad was basic but fresh and didn't just consist of iceberg lettuce. Also ordered at my table were chicken wings and a kids corn dog meal. Wings looked good and I was told they were. The corn dog meal came with two and fries and was under $6! Place wasn't to busy. We sat at our table and waited 20 mins without a waitress to come see us and ask if we wanted a drink and food. ( she looked at us a few times) two people showed up and sat down and got served right away. I guess if you're not a local you get treated like sh!t. We are here on a shutdown for Sinclair refinery. We stopped by the Peppermill Bar & Grill passing through on our way back to KS. The outside wasn't quite so inviting, but the food was really good! My husband had a very tasty Chicken Fried Steak, which he said was awesome. I had the Prime Rib sandwich which was only around $13, and it turned out to be a rather large slab of Prime Rib that I chose not to eat on bread! Wow, it was good and LOTS of meat for the price! I don't know where to start on this one so I'll start in the parking lot. Very nice and big parking lot around the entire building, no smoking or vaping inside the bar area, however there is a rather large smoking room that is separate in the back, the smoking room also has TVs and a pool table and yes you can take your drinks and/or food in there. I yet to find another bar in Rawlins that accommodates to this extent. The peppermill has in my opinion the largest selection of drinks mostly because of the bartenders knowledge about modern drinks and mixes, the food is absolutely wonderful and with hefty portions, you will likely have to request a take home box, the steaks are no joke either so order only what you think you can handle. The owner now is Brenna, and she has the nicest bartenders working there. I would stand amazed if you brought a problem to their attention and received any gruff about doing so, if you have an issue or your food wasn't what you expected or ordered they always make it right with you. Most of the reviews on this bar are from a previous owner and management. It has done a 180 since then. The employees that were rude, lazy, and switching the prices on patrons are no longer there, that staff has been gutted and replaced with real workers and bartenders. read more

Three of us went in to have dinner. We went into the restaurant side and I have to tell you that the food was not very good. All of the fried foods tasted the same like they needed to change the oil in the friers. Server was nice but lacked training and seemed to not know what to do at times. We perused the Yelp site for area bars and grilles. We found the Peppermill and decided to give it a shot. The menu on their site shows incredibly low prices...when we got here and got our menus they differed greatly from Yelp...the bartender that was on shift was VERY friendly. She greeted us with enthusiasm and a good sense of humor. Too bad she ended her shift shortly after. The bartender/server was just the opposite...when I asked about the difference in prices he abruptly said those prices were from 3 years ago. Now the T-Bone is $29.95....grrrr...our food arrived. I ordered the Memphis style Brisket with garlic mashed potatoes and a house salad. My wife ordered the Sampler plate. WOW! I'm changing the rating from a 3 to a 4 just based on the quality of the food. I was passing thru Rawlins on route 80 and stopped in the Peppermill. The place was great... It had what I would call a wild west feel to it. The locals there were really friendly too. They had 50 cent draft beers (Thursdays) What??? :-) There were pool tables and a dance floor. There were people of all ages which was neat. The music which was pretty much today's popular music. I didn't have a large meal in the restaurant (which was conjoining to the large bar and dance space) but I did have a bowl of the chili at the bar and it was pretty good. It had beef and pork in it which made it a little different from your typical chili recipe. Next time I pass thru the state, I will definitely stop there again. Thanks Peppermill! read more

Went in for dinner by myself. Server seemed annoyed with my presence. She wasn't very enthusiastic and spoke very softly. There was an odd mix of music viedos playing on TV's around the restaurant which was an annoying distraction. I ended up ordering the special (prime rib sandwich) with a loaded baked potato. Food came out quickly, but was a thin piece of prime rib sitting on one slice of Texas toast (not much of a sandwich). The prime rib had a good flavor. The toast was dry. I think it would have been more enjoyable had it been garlic toast. The baked potato was ok. There was the perfect amount of cheese on it, but not enough bacon or sour cream. The server didn't check back with me until after I had finished eating. She seemed to really want to get me out of the restaurant. All in all, the experience was mediocre at best. We go in the bar for the first time, and it's the last time also! The guy that's on the pic not sure who he is, may be the owner...but was very rude to us. As a group we probably spent $300-400, also the prices changed from the female bartender to this guy! He increased the prices and gave us smaller shots in different shot glasses than the female bartender was giving us, she was good! So we pay and we are leaving and he starts clapping really loud and shouts glad you're leaving upon us exiting the bar. He's a jerk!!! Also my food was raw and no effort was made to adjust my ticket or offer new food! He caters to his local ppl which I understand they're his regulars but his rudeness is intolerable! I had a chicken sandwich that was overcooked and tough, the other people I was with liked their burgers.
