I give this place about a 3.5 ATMOSPHERE The place is HUGE inside. It's got really high ceilings, lots of tables and booths, and their decor really makes you feel like you're in Mexico. Everything's really rustic. Everything is very clean too, which is always appreciated. haha. CUSTOMER SERVICE We got greeted as soon as we entered, and, because it was about 11:30am, we were able to beat the lunch rush and were seated immediately. Our server was Giancarlo, and he was very funny and very attentive. He answered all of our questions with a smile on his face and never let our glasses get to empty! He was great! FOOD Chips & Salsa / I'm a sucker for chips & salsa. It's my damn kryptonite! Los Compadres makes their own corn tortillas which make their chips and salsa EVEN BETTER!!! So good. Their salsa is good, but nothing spectacular. Guac / We ordered a side of guac to eat with the chips. No flavor. They should just call it mashed avocado. It was very bland. I added my own salt. Enchiladas de la Casa (Chicken) / This was my order. I got 2 skinless pieces of fried chicken which were cooked really well. I got a little piece of the breast and a thigh (which I don't enjoy). I wish they would ask what cut you'd prefer. Aside from the chicken are 4 cheese enchiladas. I opted for the green sauce instead of the red. I wasn't too happy about the enchiladas. They use cotija (maybe) cheese, and I like the cheese in my enchiladas to be melted and stringy... Unfortunately, this made my meal a little less appetizing. It also comes with a small side of homestyle potatoes. Those were good and flavored very well. Carnitas / My sister ordered this. It was really good. The portion was pretty big. The carnitas were tender with a nice crisp on the outside. Really good. A little on the dry side for my liking, but... my sister prefers dry carnitas, so, for her, it worked. Combo Fajita Plate / My mom ordered this. It comes with some rice and beans and corn (or flour) tortillas. She opted for the corn since they're homemade. The fajitas were just ok. Just like the guacamole, it lacked seasoning. The combo plate includes shrimp, chicken, and beef. The only thing flavored was the shrimp, which leads me to believe that the shrimp are pre-seasoned. Everything else was bland. The onion:bell pepper ratio was way off. It was flooded with onions, and you had to search for even a little bit of bell pepper. --- OVERALL I'm not sure I'd be back. The service was great, but, I felt, on my trip at least, that the food was lacking real Mexican seasoning. read more

First time on a Friday night! me and my friends decided to go and have dinner at this restaurant, first we couldn't find parking we still decided to try it out. Bad Choice! Our waiting time to be seated was for about 1:45 min after that i was just tired of been standing up! I ask the Manager OMG! First time eating at Los Compadres and it is hands down the best tasting Mexican food I probably have ever had! When I entered Los Compadres in Norwalk, I was impressed by the authentic design and layout. High cathedral style ceilings, expensive chandeliers, and wood beams gives it an authentic look and feel. Plus they have large screen TV's all over so I know I will be coming here to enjoy the games. We were greeted with welcoming and genuine smiles which made me feel so comfortable. I ordered the Enchiladas De La Casa (chicken) with Cotija cheese and it was AMAZING! For those of you who have not tried that dish, I highly recommend it, you will thank me! Our server was incredibly courteous, attentive, and had a great personality which made my overall experience at Los Compadres well worth it. This is was my first visit and I'm glad to have them in the neighborhood. That said, I suggest improvements. 1) Chilaquiles - I went there for Chilaquiles. The flavor was monotonous. They need to add some kind of garnish or ingredient like cilantro, green onion; maybe melt cheese on top. (I ordered the basic without meat.) - I don't think I will order again. I don't detect any cheese at all on this dish - just tortillas and sauce. 2) Tacos - They don't make ground beef or shredded beef tacos so I ordered carne asada. The taco shells are TOO thin. After one bite, the entire shell fell apart! I don't know if they purchase pre-fried but I suspect they don't fry themselves. The taco looked pretty but lacked flavor. - I think Taco Bell has them beat. Too bad. That said, the prices are reasonable and I hope they will read this and improve. I'm a Chef shop I wanted to go there and see what the Carnitas was like. I was very disappointed. The meat was so dry and hard to chew. It was very rubbery. Carnitas is a pulled pork roasted to tenderness. This was not tender. I complained and explained the meat was dry and tasteless. First off, hubs and I have been frequent regulars at Los Compadres for years. First we were regulars at the Long Beach location and when we moved, were thrilled the Norwalk location was close. The past few visits, I have been trying different plates. My comments to my friends about this place is you really can't go wrong with what you order. Well, you can. Came yesterday as the craving for a wet burrito was strong. It was 8:45 and the wait was 25 minutes. Typical and not surprising. Hubs went to the bar and brought back a margarita and piña colada. Yum! Finally got seats and it was longer than 25 but whatever, I know what to expect. Hubs orders his usual and I decide to try carne asada wet burrito. Our food took forever to come out which is quite unusual. It finally came out and as I dug in was overwhelmed by the salt content in the meat. At first I thought it was me. Hubs took a bite and immediately flagged our server. Hubs agreed that it was way too salty and inedible. I didn't want to wait for anything else so we asked for it to be taken off the check. Server took the plate. He came back in five minutes and at first stated it was taken off. He then said the cooks decided that there was nothing wrong with it and he then pointed to the guy at the table next to us and said he ordered the same thing and he liked it. WTF?! First of all, rude. Really rude. I didn't ask for your passive aggressive opinion. Being a long, loong time customer I was truly insulted. All you had to say was I'm sorry you didn't like it and it's off the check. That's it. You don't admit fault and you don't piss off a loyal patron. Win win. If you want to eat good restaurant style Mexican food that even your Caucasian friends with love, then this is the place. Everything from the queso fundido to the enchiladas with salsa verde are great. I try to come here once a week or at least twice a month and I am never disappointed. I can get full off the chips and salsa that they give you to start. Made that mistake the first time coming here. The service here is great with everyone always smiling and always ready to help with whatever question or concern that you may have. I have heard this place gets crowded on the weekends so I just stick to lunch during the week and it works out well. I've never had to wait. read more

Came here on a Saturday around 2:30pm service was friendly and got sat down immediately. The ambiance was good chill. Now let's get to the best part the food was AMAZING! We got the carnitas plate and molcajete mixto & the ceviche. The molcajete looks like it's gonna be much bigger in person because of how it shows in the menu but it's not lol still very filling tho . And the carnitas look like it's gonna be a smaller portion on the menu but they actually give you A BIG portion. Fav was definitely the carnitas and chorizo and chicken from what we got. Super juicy not too greasy! I probably wouldn't get the ceviche again tho.( de pescado ) it tasted good kind of but tasted like if they had used green lime juice instead of yellow so it was a bit bitter like when u taste the lime going bad already. First off, their chips and salsa are super tasty! We got a second bowl of chips they were so fresh! The salsa had a good flavor too. I ordered the chicken soup. I know this is a bold statement to make, but it was the best chicken soup I've ever had! It came with a plate of cilantro, limes, onions, rice, and avocado. My mouth is watering while I'm writing this. Inside the soup was a beautiful broth, soooo much chicken! A whole carrot, Potato, and zucchini. First of all I ordered food to go, and to begin with I couldn't even get through on the phone because it kept going straight to voicemail. However this time, The tacos were extremely cold as if they had been sitting for a while.. also the food did not look presentable as it usually does. The order was also completely wrong!!! Secondly, my mother was ill and she always orders the Caldo De Pollo, one of the only things she can enjoy when she's sick. So it was disappointing that when I get home with the Caldo de Pollo it was cold ! Also they usually put Pechuga chicken breast, but this time it was one measly chicken leg, and lacked vegetables, it was mainly all Caldo.. This visit was a huge disappointment, never thought I would be leaving a bad review! To top it off when I went back to get the order correct, They messed it up again !!! WOW !!! Flies ... many flies .. I don't write many reviews but this deserves to be addressed, especially when people are paying a lot of money to visit your restaurant. I don't care what the food tastes like or what the restaurant looks like when there's that many flies in the windows where you're eating. I didn't want to order anything when I seen that .. but the waiter was nice and it's not his fault .. this is a management thing. I bought two drinks and I was out with my date. Guess eggs are too expensive now because they only offer the chilaquiles and if you want them with egg, you have to pay extra. And they don't even taste good anymore either. If I order, I always order to go, because when I go, their seating system sucks. Can't take a big party. Too small to accommodate more than 4 people in a timely manner. This is my third time at this restaurant the first two times were great I held off writing a review until this last third time. Service I would give five out of five stars. Quality of food I would give two out of five stars, quantity for the value I would give 3/5 stars. The guacamole tasted very pasty and unseasoned not sure what this was maybe from a jar, a side of it will run you $6.00. A michelada/ Bud Light was eight dollars that's a bit too too steep for a really crappy beer. I had the Ensenada style fish tacos very small pieces of fish the tortillas were awesome though. My friend raved about the Carne Asada burrito his dish looked great. Others loved the carne Asada tacos but again it lacked seasoning and was very boring for $12.95 for the three tacos. The beans were not flavorful and the guacamole on every plate was thrown away, even their chips and salsa disappointed. How do you mess that up for a a popular Mexican spot that's well-known I was a little bit saddened by this experience. We've been here on date night and with large parties and for the most part service has been good but there have been a few visits where service was slow even when it wasn't super busy so just be mindful of that. The Los compadres I've been to down in the LBC is probably one of my favorite Mexican restaurants around. When I lived in the LBC, I would probably frequent it around once every 2 weeks. My favorite dish there hands down was the aguachile. So when i has to bring some sides to a holiday party in Cerritos, I naturally gravitated towards Los compadres. Got a couple of containers of rice, beans, and guacamole. Even though just sides, the quality of all of them are bar none. I had been coming to this place for years before I last ate here and never had the food tasted as bad as this time- not sure if they changed to chef or what. My friend and I came to enjoy some mariscos and we ordered agua chiles and ceviche and it was the worst we ever tasted. We tried to fix up the food since it had no flavor or spice to both of them and it did not work. I feel the restaurant has been gentrified bc it did not have that authentic taste but just taste like blended water and tomatos. The supervisor Peter did not want to give us a discount, refund, or accommodate us for the inconvenience, we both look young so I bet that he saw us just as kids but we're not.
