It was a toss up between this place and el Tejan or whatever it's called. I picked Bracero because it was closer to the hotel and after driving from Chicago to Amarillo in one day, I was exhausted. On the outside, this place looks like something you do not want to enter, especially not to eat. Again, in the panhandle, looks are often deceiving as some of the best food comes out of the kitchen, not the interior decorating. The food was definitely traditional. Staff was friendly and warm and often asked if we needed anything. Lots of families eating around us and everyone seemed content. I had tacos, enchiladas, and a gordita...it was very good on the whole and I was quite happy. Again, not the best meal I have ever had, but it was very well prepared, I had no issues with the quality of food and everything tasted very good. I know there are lots of options for mex in Amarillo but this was a good stop for sure. I'd likely try a different place if I come back but only to compare and try something new. read more

Again with the fiver. This one is for the suprise. I was fully anticipating a standard run of the mill TexMex menu, but I was wrong. They have Cabrito, quale, lamb, carnitas, snapper.....I couldn't decide. So I started with the ceviche and spent some time with the menu. The ceviche was fresh and plentiful and I wished I had more. At the waitresses suggestion, I got the Plato Santa Fe. Which is a steak topped with mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, shrimp and cheese. It was like a Mexican cheese steak. Seasoned and cooked perfectly. I would love to come back and try more. I highly reccomend this place if you are in town. read more

This is the best Mexican food I've ever had. We had chicken enchiladas and a chicken chimichanga with sour cream sauce. Both were excellent. The chicken is wood grilled breast meat. It was very crowded the Thursday night we visited, but we did not have to wait. They had live music that made it noisy, but we didn't really mind. There are lots of antiques and old photos on the walls making it quite an experience. The waiter was attentive but not in a pesky way. The prices where pretty reasonable, the food good except the rice. The rice had an aftertaste. I was thinking old grease. My chimichanga grande had been deep fried, but probably only was in fryer for a moment since it was not chrispy. It was just a tad darker then my hubby's burrito. Taste wise the chimichanga and the burrito, both with beef fajita meat, and the refried beans were fine.... not the best mexican ever, but with the exception of the rice the taste was ok. The portion size was generous and the endless chips/salsa were great and just perfect in the spicy level. The staff was friendly and after mentioning the issue with the rice we did recieve a 15 % discount. I will give the place another shot when in town. read more

I finally found it. I was starting to have my doubts. I moved to Texas from Florida in 2016. I thought for sure that the closer I got to Mexico, the better the food would get. Boy, was I ever wrong on that. But then, there's this little, unassuming restaurant with brightly painted walls. Hands down the. Best. Mole. Ever. Omg. The only downside, is that I live in Lubbock, and this glorious restaurant that descended from Heaven is in Amarillo. My boyfriend also loved his tacos (but hes easy to please). That mole tho. Great place to stop for lunch or dinner. Recommend the molcajete. The carne asada is probably the juiciest, most tender carne I have had at any Mexican restaurant. The nopales are grilled to perfection, and the camarones a la diabla are spicy and ginormous. Tortillas are nothing special, but great addition (they are included). Warning: they do not hold back on the cheese. Cheese lovers' galore. Chips were crunchy and not excessively salty, and salsa was very flavorful. Business depends on what time you go. I went at 1:30pm on a Friday and service was fast, as there were only three other tables occupied. On a Sunday for lunch, however, it is crowded and parking can be hard to find. The only reason as to why I give it 4 stars is the fact that I had a rude waitress, and one of the employees was sweeping around the tables as we were eating. This restaurant is truly a gem. I was lucky to find it when passing through Amarillo when I checked Yelp for a highly rated Mexican restaurant. Without a doubt, the positive reviews are accurate. I had the Plato Tejano. This meal was served on two dinner plates; consisting of an enchilada, Chili relleno, taco, chalupa, refrained beans and rice. I have a large appetite and almost had to take a box home with me. The flavors are bold and authentic. The green salsa is spicy and perfectly compliments the beef dishes. Overall, excellent food, excellent service for a very reasonable price. I will definitely be back next time I'm in town. read more

We were drawn to this place by the Yelp reviews, particularly the recommendation of Nachos Con Carne and Chili Rellenos, which we ordered with chicken. We thought the Rellenos were exceptional and the prices were more than fair. We ate here with our kids, who enjoyed the flautas and nachos. And if you feel that, in a perfect world, all Mexican plates should come with guacamole, then this is your perfect world. Me and friends were traveling through Amarillo and looked at Yelp for a good Mexican restaurant and saw this one had good reviews. If you're passing through or live here it is a must!! The food is terrific and the service is also great. I had the Pollo Santa Fe my first time and was sooo good. The way back we stopped again and I had the Pollo Yucatán. I added three spicy shrimp to that one. The Yucatán sauce was delicious and I ate all my rice, which I never do, by mixing it all together. This place is amazing. It's little and doesn't have all the fancy stuff but your taste buds will be so happy and you'll just want to go back to you room, house smoke a cigar and get ready for bed. This is my favorite place for Mexican food. Either location has been great experience. I always have to have a Michelada here because they serve it in a tall chilled glass and the beverage itself is very tasty. I've had a few different items on the menu but my favorite is the carne adobada! The spicing on the pork steak has a great flavor. Sometimes it can be too filling depending on the cut they give you. I was disappointed with El Bracero, especially since the other yelp reviews are so positive. My sister and I went for dinner last night, craving some good Mexican food while stopped in Texas for our cross-country road trip. The chips were just ok. Better than the bagged chips from the store, but definitely the worst restaurant chips I've had. The salsa was weird. The smell reminded me of the kale that I use to make green smoothies, but it didn't taste like kale. It tastes like soap. I know that's how some people describe cilantro, but I've never had that problem with cilantro before. The salsa went uneaten. I ordered a side of queso for the chips. It was awful. I don't think I've ever turned down cheese in my life, but I couldn't eat this. The waitress was nice and took it off our bill. For the entree, I ordered a spinach quesadilla. I didn't know it had mushrooms on it, but that might just be standard for spinach quesadillas. I picked most of them out because I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms. No big deal. The problem I had with the quesadilla was the ridiculous amount of oil that was in it. When I opened it up to remove the mushrooms, I picked up the quesadilla and the oil just dripped out. It was drenched! All in all, it was very disappointing. However, it was clean and our waitresses was very friendly. We were visiting Amarillo and tried this restaurant based on the Yelp reviews. We are dyed in the wool Texans and Tex-Mex aficionados and it was great. I had the beef fajitas and they were very flavorful and tender. I also had the charro beans and they were hands down the best charro beans I've ever had. My husband had the lamb chops and shrimp and he said while the lamb chops were a bit overcooked, they were also very flavorful. The refried beans and rice were pretty much standard fare. The hot sauce was HOT. I think you can request a milder sauce but I'm not 100% sure on that. I like thin chips and the chips here are thicker but not bad. We had sopapillas for dessert and they were very tasty too. The wait staff was very attentive and the price was reasonable. I would give it a 4 1/2 star rating but am unable to do that here. We will definitely visit again when in Amarillo. read more

This may be my favorite restaurant in Amarillo. The grill items are excellent. My personal favorite is the grilled quail, it goes hard AF. Also had posole on a Sunday, that just made my darn day. I don't find posole too many places so thats major points. Three locations around town, I've only been to the Bell and 6th st locations. Dollar margaritas on sine weekday, not sure which one. Going through Amarillo, this is a great authentic Mexican quick stop. Queso was on point with cheesy to creamy ratio, with over the top seasoning. Poblano peppers were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning and spices to enhance the meal. The shredded chicken enchiladas were juicy and flavorful and the cream sauce was spectacular. Margaritas were quite affordable and incredibly tasty, making this small hole in the wall a great, affordable pit stop for any family! read more
