About 2 weeks ago as my family and I Were on our vacations making our way to Southern CA from Kentucky we ended up hitting a coyote early in the morning 29miles from Amarrillo Texas. We ended up staying at the Days inn in Amarillo for 3 days. One of those nights we visited Mimis restaurant , I got the chile relleno plate 2 tacos and a horchata and it was DELICIOUS . My husband got the gorditas plate and that dish was also delicious. The horchata and the red salsa are on point. Bomb authentic food, for sure I recommend . Oh, they also sell goodies . Love this place! Best mexican food around! But watch out it can be CALIENTE! The service is always friendly and fast. We are gringos so we get funny looks when we walk in. But if you like HOT and you like better mexican food than the fast foods (not naming them) this is your place! read more

For this gringo...excellent. This is the real-deal. Run by kind people. Very basic dining area, clean and orderly.

I'll say from the onset, I'm a gringo...but I love Mexican food a lot. Stumbled upon this place the other night and we were the only ones in the place. Ordering is a bit of a challenge as the menu is all in Spanish with no descriptions or prices. (I figured the prices were pretty cheap, which they were.) We wound up getting beef tacos (crispy shells not available), horchata (think of a long, oval tostada) and cheese enchiladas. My wife said the enchiladas were VERY good. The horchata was BIG and pretty tasty. The "steak" in the tacos was quite bland. There's a huge selection of traditional Mexican drinks and several popular beers - Mexican and domestic. They don't have guacamole or the typical "salsa"...just a very spicy green tomatillo dipping sauce. The staff was very nice and accommodating. They've been in business for 11 years, so they're doing something right. There's also an odd collection of Mexican gifts to be purchased. Overall, it was an interesting dining experience, but I'll probably not go back. It's just a bit to "authentic" for my tastes. read more

Unbelievable! I guess as an anglo i am a fair target? Even though i am a Mexican citizen. $48.00 for three people . This is a very modest restauran!!!. I had huevos ranchero, my friend has a medium size burrito (no rice beans etc), my other friend had a torta (no rice and beans). Three fantas and two small beers...and a sign said beer was $3.00 each. on top of that it took 40 minutes to get there. avoid being ripped off!!! read more

Authentic Mexican that was amazing for a hole in the wall place! Pineapple soda was a nice treat too! I got the chicken tacos their were 4 plus rice and beans and my husband got the gorditas which were amazing!!! Great authentic Mexican food! Order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. I did not see prices listed anywhere, but our 3 dinners and three non-alcoholic drinks were $33.00. The enchilada dinner was excellent! The cashier spoke English and Spanish. The menu is in Spanish, but there are pictures of everything so it was easy to order. I recommend it! read more

My wife love's genuine Mexican food and does not like Tex Mex. I like both but this place is the pure real deal. No brisket and beans here. The menu isn't huge like the chains but everything is excellent. Large selection of beers and soft drinks are available and a few quarters kept our grandson busy with the pool table. Recommended by us and by the local Mexican patrons who dined with us. read more

we visited Amarillo for a roping, and decided to ask yelp for recommendations. we walked here from our hotel. we got a modela Michelalada, and it was delicious, also a Corona from mexico- it was in a unique bottles very fun to see!!:) we got taco plates, and Carne asada burritos. nothing has price tags, so not sure what we paid, but service was great, and food was excellent!! definitely small portions though. my husband had 2 taco(4 small authentic tacos per plate)plates with beans and rice. and the burritos were small compared to normal places. Also, don't expect chips/salsa, because they don't have it. They do carry some Tupperware items, and neat clay mugs, and Mexican candies/beer salts, and pinatas to purchase if desired. read more

This place is delicious! I ate the huevos rancheros and they were awesome. The red chile is tasty but not so hot to the point that it's un-enjoyable. The rice and beans are also great. The place is basic but it's really clean and the food is yummy. I gave it 4 stars because the staff aren't exactly the most loving people, they aren't mean but they could be a little more friendly. Amazingly great food. Don't be put off by the faded sign and somewhat worn storefront. Had the beef enchiladas. 100% great and authentic..(first wife was Mexican) ...many bottled Mexican beers to choose from....VERY reasonable price. We were looking for an authentic Mexican joint for a quick meal when we stumbled upon Mimi's. We're from out of town, and will definitely make the hour drive to eat here again. The Barbacoa tacos are delicious, fresh and simple; chopped cilantro and onions on top of tender and savory Barbacoa and warm corn tortillas. The salsa verde YUUUUMMMMM!
