This is a diamond in the rough for sure. As other Yelpers have pointed out the neighborhood is a bit sketchy and the area is sparse but don't let that keep you from coming here to eat, it's completely worth the trip. The ambiance is perfect and the staff is wonderfully friendly. The musica is authentic. All great positives, but of course what we all want to know is, what about the food? The food is really good. It's no frills so don't expect fancy but honestly, this place doesn't exude fancy it exudes authentic, which is exactly what you get. I had the combo with the chili poblano a taco and a chicken burrito. It came with beans and rice. They were all wonderful, hot and flavorful. A word of advice. If you're going to get the chili poblano don't get it to go eat it at the restaurant. It definitely loses a little bit during transportation. But that was my fault not the restaurants's. Highly recommended.

Off of N Dallas Street and Amarillo Blvd around the corner from the soybean/corn silos loading yard. Fantastic little restaurant in the working side of town. Best corn tortillas I've probably ever had. Extensive authentic cocktail menu including Prickly Pear Margaritas and Cielo Rojos. Margaritas are poured heavy, and the food is awesome. Husband had the marinated pork tacos and I had the Pesco Diablo with white rice and orange slices. We're driving across country (road trip time) and getting our fix of Tex-Mex before we head to the East Coast where they really don't have an ideal understanding of it. Great service, super clean, really good food, chill vibe, off the beaten path for some, what more could you want? Not a lot. Thank you El Manantial!

My friends and I came here for lunch. My friend has been living in Amarillo and is Mexican and says the Tex-Mex/Mex food here isn't the best but she loves this spot. I was excited to try it bc I'm a huge Tex-Mex/Mex food fan. I got a mango frozen margarita and the chicken enchiladas with salsa verde. The food was very affordable and tasted great. The service wasn't the best though. We never got water refills or chip refills and had to flag down the waitress a few times for both.

We found this gem on Yelp and we were so excited when we pulled in the parking lot and saw it was full. If the locals love it, it must be good! We went on Saturday, July 18th and Saturday, July 25th. I ordered a small ceviche both times. It was great and fresh on the 18th but not so much on the 25th. Hubs ordered enchiladas on the 18th and said they were good but the 25th he ordered the chilies rellenos with fajita meat and a carne sauce. He didn't eat very much of it and said he wouldnt order it again. Service on the 18th was great, service on the 25th was slow. Chips and hot sauce with white beans is the bomb. The have good looking drinks and beer but we didn't partake. Ask questions before ordering like is the ceviche fresh and what other sauces do you have. Altogether a great place just not consistent.

Duuuuude this food is SO GOOD! I actually need to thank Yelp for this one - we used the app to find a well rated place to eat and this was a little ways away from I-40 so we would never have known it was there if Yelp hadn't suggested it. The restaurant lives up to the hype. Super friendly staff, really exciting menu, absolutely BANGIN' food. The seating area is small but they smartly didn't try to over stuff it with chairs and tables so it feels cozy rather than cramped. Love the art showcased on the wall for sale. I added some pics of the food and it was just as good to eat as it was to look at. The chef definitely knows what they are doing. Next time I pass through Amarillo, I'll make sure to do a follow up stop for another round of this amazing food!

We walked it and they were sweeping and it smelled like the cleaner Fabriosa. That is not appetizing.

My girlfriend's mom was especially excited to take me to El Tejaven while I was visiting. This dinner was a celebration of my girlfriend's sister playing in the top All-Region orchestra. It has nothing to do with the food itself, but I want to mention it because she did a great job performing and I think it deserves to be remembered here. It is the reason we went in the first place. It was a busy night at El Tejaven before we arrived. A group of 32 was just wrapping up dinner. Thirty two people. At that point, just cater, dawg. It took about 20 minutes after arrival to get seated, but it likely would have been much quicker if it were not for a group that size. Once we were seated, we were served chips and salsa. The salsa was spicier than I was prepared for, but it was good. The chips were excellent as well. Most people at the table ordered margaritas on the rocks, while I got a dressed Dos Equis on draft. From what I tasted, the margaritas were solid. For appetizers, we ordered the small queso and the small ceviche. The queso was standard but good. The ceviche, on the other hand, was exceptional. I could have eaten a large bowl by myself. I was pretty hungry, so I ordered the Orden de Tacos, which comes with four tacos on corn tortillas. I got all of them with al pastor. I also added a side of rice and beans, which normally comes with the three taco order but can be added on for the four tacos. The tacos were very good and exactly what you want from street style al pastor, especially with the cilantro and onions. It comes out to roughly four dollars per taco if you do the math. The rice and beans were both great and I ate all of it easily. The plate also came with a side of guacamole that had a nice kick, which I enjoyed. Living in Austin with family in San Antonio, it is easy to find good and authentic Mexican food. That does not always seem to be the case in Amarillo, so it is nice to know there is at least one spot in the city that feels authentic and not overly gringoified. My girlfriend's family knows ball. Real, non machine made flour tortillas. Huge mug of Modela on tap, ice cold of course. The hubby got eggs over easy with chilaquiles which were delicious. But my star was the chile rellenos. They give you two! The sauce, the batter, the peppe, r the cheese inside; everything about this relleno was just perfect. I believe it was the best I've ever had. Definitely could never eat it all but I would order it again. Rice and beans on. Queso ok. Service was above and beyond great. They had a bunch of other things that looked really good and a lot of seafood items. Spic and span clean on the outside and the inside. Would definitely recommend

Food selection was too hard to choose so I married it down to a bowl of soup or enchiladas. Waitress recommended the beef soup with fresh handmade tortillas. We had tortilla chips and two salsas until the food arrived. The other person on my party had carnitas tacos and I tasted those as they came to the table first. Tender meat, delicate cheese sprinkled on them and refried beans that were smooth and comforting. Then my extra large bowl of soup arrived with two limes on the side. Large chunks of pot roast beef so tender the spoon just melted through them. There was potato, carrot, cabbage and onion in a delicate but flavorful beef base broth. I added some of the spicy salsa to mine as I'm a "spicy" girly and it was just perfect. As I mentioned a received homemade flour tortilla but had a choice of corn if desired. The tortillas are the ones that are hand thrown and chewy and just O.M.G. The best I've ever had. Don't walk ... run to this establishment. I will return again and again.
