Fantastic neighborhood cafe in historic Oliver-Eakle neighborhood of Amarillo. Very reasonably priced, great service (the only restaurant I know of that has low staff turnover), and great food. Let's see, I've been going to La Campana for over 15 years, off and on. I now live in N. Carolina and I really really miss our Tex-Mex/authentic Mexican food. Although, the place is crowded at times it well worth the wait to get the classic dishes or buffet at La Campana. Seeing Blanca and the other staff again is a blessing. Go there if you can say hello to the staff and give them a generous tip, they deserve it!! 4 stars for nostalgia, I don't give 5 stars, only for perfection. Food Service NO STARS!!! We spent the night and looking for a good breakfast. The food was amazing, sorry took no pictures, it took me back to my south Texas tastebuds! Add chorus to your beans you will not regret it! But, the waitress we had was worth the $1 tip I left her. Her attitude changed as soon as I started asking questions about the menu. She had a resting mean face after that and never checked on us, I called her several times and I know she heard me. I left my nearly touched Menudo since I couldn't get a Togo container and went to pay without the check since she never brought it! After considerable research and yelping, reading reviews of various restaurants and looking through their pictures, I chose this place to have breakfast because it looked like they had Migas, something I love but can't find in Arizona or California so I try to eat them when I get to Texas. I knew I was taking a little bit of a chance if they didn't have all day breakfast but I figured I'd find something else that would satisfy me and come back another day if I was too late. It was probably around 3 p.m. when I got here and fortunately for me the first thing I saw on the menu was breakfast served all day, the second thing was Migas for $5.99, a much better price than they had it for at La Fiesta Grande, which only serves them on the weekends, only till 2 p.m., and charges $8 for them. I decided to get some queso to go with my chips because the pictures of it looked good. The queso came first, and I nearly filled up on it because I hadn't eaten yet all day. Still, they gave me enough that I probably took half of it home and finished the next day. Their salsa was excellent with much better flavor than that which I had at La Fiesta. It had a good kick it didn't burn my mouth so I ate quite a bit of it but still had some to bring back to the motel that night. Their potatoes impressed me because they were obviously fresh-cut, you can't duplicate that texture with with frozen potatoes, almost like diced french fries, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I usually try to stay away from potatoes and didn't even notice they came with the Migas but can't say I was sorry to eat them. They weren't over-salted either like so many fried potatoes are. The Migas were also delicious and the frijoles were very good. The service was excellent up till the end when I was ready for my bill and a to-go container. I think I waited 20 or 30 minutes for someone to finally check back with me so I could package up my leftovers and pay my bill. Fortunately I wasn't in a hurry so I just sat and played with my phone until I finally caught my girl's attention. Once she came over everything happened quickly and I was able to move on to my next activity. Would I go back here? Definitely! Would I recommend it to others? Absolutely! read more

We shared the shrimp chicken and beef fajitas. Tortillas were fresh, everything was fresh. beans were great too. Only beans my husband has ever liked.Kids had quesadillas and enjoyed them. Complimentary Chips and salsa so good. Place was full of locals. Neighbourhood was your typical under the overpass but i guarantee if you get in the door you'll be back here. This place is very local. For breakfast I love the eggs with red chili sauce. Mi Rancho is what they call it. The Enchilada Breakfast is also one of my favorites. Carne Guisada is also worth trying. Fir lunch or dinner you can expect very respectable Tex-Mex. heavy on Enchiladas and tacos. Don't expect the high-end hype of most Mexican food restaurants. This place is back to basics with an emphasis breakfast. This is not a "get your margarita" on place. Opposite. Get a Carta Blanca, a plate of beef enchiladas with carne sauce and you will be satisfied. read more

This place is the best place to eat in Amarillo, hands down! Oh my goodness! We walked in and sat down and we were immediately greeted with a smile and chips and salsa. The hot sauce is a bit spicy but oh so good! I kept gobbling it up. Shortly thereafter, we received our food and let me say the plates were the size of Texas! I had the Steak and Chilaquiles with over easy eggs with a side of beans and let me say it did not disappoint! It was so good and full of flavor. The tortillas weren't soggy but yet cooked to perfection with just the right crunch. The sauce was perfect. The steak was cooked to my specification and complimented the chilaquiles well. My Hubbt, ordered the Flats with over easy eggs and he didn't left his head up for a few minutes. I have to admit I tasted his plate before even trying mine and it did not disappoint! He ordered his with cheese and added steak from my plate and it was amazing! We left so full and satisfied! Can't beat that! I could write a paragraph on how La Campana looks but this is about the food and service so lets get to it. My table ordered tamales montavos and nopales a la mexicana. When we placed the order we asked for the eggs on the nopales to be over and easy instead of scrambled the waitress told us that was fine, and never returned to let us know it was not possible . Once we received our food we sent it back due to the eggs being scrambled. The waiter then brought the plate back to us and told us that it was not possible to do over and easy eggs due to the mix. When we told her we just would do without the whole plate she returned again and said that they would go ahead and do the order the way we asked, weird. The other plate was good, however the potatoes there are not seasoned. Overall I would not return to this restaurant. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants in the area with great food and wonderful service. read more

All right. We're in Amarillo, Texas, night four of a cross-country trip. We don't want AppleTGIChili's. We want something good, something local. What to do? Consult Yelp! We found this place and swayed by the glowing reviews, we went. I must say, I didn't find this place terrible-terrible. The service could have been a little nicer. I leaned over to my boyfriend and said, "Looks like someone's not feeling the recession pinch and doesn't need any new customers" when we were left standing at the door, ignored, in a place with four other people eating. Points for really fresh guacamole. My fajitas were good, except for the oil all the veggies were sitting in. Blech. My boyfriend, however, said this was the worst place he'd ever been to in his life - terrible service, depressing atmosphere, bland food. My two-star rating is mostly based on his assessment, although my own would be at the bottom range of a three, or the high end of a two. Either way, we both agreed on one thing: What the heck were Yelpers thinking? Is there another, better La Campana we don't know about? And it's sad, because I think experiences like this are the reason people go to Applebee's when they're in unfamiliar places instead of being a little adventurous and supporting a local establishment. They're speedy & friendly, the food is amazing, and even the brokest of broke people can afford to eat here once in a while (take my word for it)! If you go for lunch, you AND a friend can go all out and stuff your faces for like $15 total. Second best enchiladas I've ever had in my life (the best being at Paco's in Albuquerque). Real home cooking without being too greasy. The interior is bright and cheerful, they have a good selection on the menu, and you can do dine-in, take-out or whatever. And truly rine, very hot salsa. The only drawback is that most of the waitstaff has fairly poor English. If you don't know Spanish, it is inadvisable to call this place with virtually any complicated question. (For reference, we'll define that as anything more involved than "Do you guys do take-out?") Just be careful not to get a jones for this place on a Monday, because like almost every decent restaurant in A-town, they're closed on Mondays. read more

We typically always order La Campana plate with 2 chicken enchiladas, carne guisada and rice and beans. Highly recommend! Spicy salsa and chips in abundance and so very attentive staff. They have $1 American beers from 4-8 and on the house sopapillas . On another note, went to Yelp to post review and it showed to be closed but that was not correct info. The food was good however the service was not. It was a super busy and when we entered we stood their awkwardly because there were no signs saying wether you wait to be seat or self seating. After awhile someone approached us and sat us down. After we got sat down we waited about 10-15 minutes for our waiter to take our drink orders and bring chips to the table. I love La Campana! The flat enchiladas are definitely the way to go-cheese or beef and then 2 fried eggs on top. I don't know how they do it but the eggs are always perfect and pretty! Everything is great-I love the chile relleno burrito also. Great hot sauce, great guacamole (although a small order is comical-it's a serving about the size of a shot glass, maybe less) It is authentic Mexican food. This is the worst customer service that I have ever experienced! I so agree with Liz F. As a family, we go to La Campana at least 2 times a week for 10 plus years. We have never experienced this poor service. I believe either they have a new cook or they must be having a bad month. The hamburger was raw and showed pink-which of course was used in every plate we ordered. Had it taken back and ordered similar item..but get this they charged me for both items!! And yes you guessed it..the hamburger was still raw. Ended up paying for both and the manager wouldn't even talk or look at us. Never again..Shame on you!! read more
