Id like to say better things but it's difficult to find the words. Being a relative local (lived here for about 12 years), I've been dragged to this place by multiple people at all of their locations, and I've never had a good experience. Pros: Good, timely service (except for the old town Eureka location) Attentive and friendly employees. Cons: The bagels. Maybe it's because of my time living in New York and Philly (where I practically lived on bagels), but I don't think the folks at Los Bagels know what a bagel is. As a chef, I can usually figure out what went wrong in the cooking process but, frankly, I'm at a loss to explain these bagels. A bagel is supposed to be chewy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. The bagels at this establishment are these small, dense, mealy things. Maybe they don't make water bagels??? Honestly, I'd rather have a package of those Franz bagels from Safeway than a Los Bagels Bagel. They are at least somewhat authentic. Sorry guys, I don't usually give bad reviews. Actually, I rarely review at all, and if I do, and the review isn't great, I am more than willing to amend the review later, but, short of changing their fundamental product radically, I don't see how my mind can be changed about these little hockey pucks they call bagels. read more

I've been going to Los Bagels for at least 20 years now. I used to work near the Old Town store. Could be even 25 years. Not very frequently once I hit my 40s because the food baby won't stop growing however, I totally enjoyed my 15 minute walk up to the Arcata store to have my all time favorite, Veggie Delight. You pick your bagel type and on top of the cream cheese goes chopped olives, shredded carrots and some green onions. I went with the garlic, although a slug (not a round bagel) is my favorite but no way that topping would stick to a skinny bagel. Why yes, it is tricky to eat. I'm glad you wondered about that. I tried not to snort or giggle when the carrots touched/tickled my nose or actually tried to go IN my nose, when I took a bite. It's messy but really delicious. I had mine on a toasted garlic bagel with a Martinelli's for my drink. It was sunny and warm sitting in the window at the counter that faces outside and watching the I Street comings and goings, eating my favorite bagel and listening to some very interesting music selections. I'm stayed to eat and was glad to see they keep a very steady business. I drooled over the baked goods in the cabinet and noticed they were all out of sticky buns. Probably a good thing since I would have gotten one for later as that is my other favorite thing they have in that shop. The food is great but they are so unorganized. As I waited for my food to come out I watched three customers grab the wrong orders and come back and have them re-made. My own order was claimed by someone else and of course they ran out of bagels so I just didn't get what I ordered and paid for. I was given free pastries as a consolation as was everyone else who got incorrect orders. I get this is a humboldt county staple but I won't be back. They gotta get it together. Los Bagels is an Arcata treat and serves reasonably portioned breakfasts at mostly sensical prices. Upon walking in, you're greeted with a warm, colorful ambiance highlighted by sunlight streaming through the tall windows on all the outer walls of the building. As you wait in line, you can browse the fairly extensive menu hanging above the cashier, which features bagels both with and without eggs. Once you order, you can sit down at one of their many window tables and enjoy your coffee for the few minutes it takes them to call out your order. The Cucumbin bagel I ordered was absolutely delicious with its rich mixture of seeds, cream cheese, and a zesty green sauce drizzled on top. The plain scrambled egg and cream cheese bagels are solid picks as well, and the coffees they serve showcase reasonable variety and flavors. The price for most of the menu items is reasonable, though a few of the bagels are pushing $10, which is slightly ridiculous - though sure, lox is expensive anyway. Los Bagels isn't the most filling meal around, but it's a reasonable size for breakfast. read more

My husband and I will celebrate 27 years of marriage tomorrow and I'm happy to say we've enjoyed coming to Los Bagels Arcata Long before that! The secret of these bagels is they boil them. They are chewy and delicious and come in many flavors with multiple spreads and toppings. I love a good wild salmon lox or salmon cream cheese on a toasted white bagel. My son favors the veggie sandwich and it's well worth it to ask for a side of the locally-made Larrupin sauce which you can purchase by the bottle. I like this location best (another in Eureka) because it's the original and has that hippie charm that is so Arcata. While there u can pick up some bagels or pastries to go, sip a plethora of juice or Mate drinks or buy a Los Bagels mug or shirt. I wish we had one in Olympia! Only complaint is the price - bagel sandwiches will run you $8-$10 each. Cookies are $1.75. But a plain bagel? Just $1! read more

I loved the ambiance in this place. I love the artsy Mexican vibe and the mural outside is super cool. I have to admit I was a little disappointed with my sandwich. I ordered the bacon egg and cheese bagel, but was left wondering where the cheese was. The egg didn't have much flavor and the bagel didn't taste like anything out of this world like it's hyped up to be. Coffee was just ok, and honestly a bit bitter. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie to go, and the cookie did not disappoint! It was super crowded, but staff were friendly. When I come to visit Humboldt this is a must go to! Their bagels are fresh, they put fun spins on them and you just over all feel like you are eating well and not more carbs. I've never seen a bagel place have so many fresh options and I'm here for it! In the picture I got a plain bagel with cream cheese and extra cucumbers. But I also would suggest putting slug slime which I can't believe i forgot! Los Bagels has great food, gifts and knickknacks for sale, and has a very unique vibe. I have been coming here for years. As of recently in the last few months the line to get a bagel is ridiculous. The line wasn't even out onto the sidewalk yet, and I have been standing in line for 40 minutes. 40 minutes. The cashier checks one person out every 7 minutes.... I don't know if they are severely understaffed or if the staff is new but don't go to Los Bagels unless you have 1.5 hours to wait for a bagel and get it made. After waiting 40 minutes in like I waited another 20 minutes for my food after ordering. Great food, but they need to do something about the pace. Soon. read more

This is truthfully the worst bagel place I've ever been to. I would give 0 stars if I was allowed to. The bagels are smaller than the palm of my hand (and I can't even palm a basketball for reference). They also microwave their eggs and bacon for their sandwiches. To charge over 9 dollars for a tiny breakfast sandwich which is microwaved is just absurd. I have been 4 times hoping I just had off batches of small, hard bagels.
