This place is a great little hidden gem. The portion sizes are HUGE for the price, and tasty to boot.

A Brand Slowing Dying... I'm DONE…read more I will NEVER dine at another Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux. Another dining experience that was below acceptable standards. The last time I dined at a Walk-On's Bistreaux was on Friday May 13, 2022, at the Town Center location in Baton Rouge. After an extremely bad and poorly handled customer service experience, I vowed to NEVER dine at Walk-On's again. Going against my better judgment, my wife and I decided to give the Denham Springs location a try. We arrived around 8:45 PM, The restaurant was not busy, and we were greeted immediately upon arrival and seated in the bar area. Our server was prompt, friendly, very knowledgeable about the menu, and presented herself in a professional manner. We started with the Boom Boom Shrimp which is fried shrimp with boom boom sauce. There were plenty of medium sized shrimps perfectly fried but lacked seasoning and flavor. Even the boom boom sauce was bland. For our entrees, we each ordered the Catfish Orleans; one with blackened catfish fillets and one with fried catfish fillets served over white rice, topped with crawfish étouffée and hand-battered shrimp. I was expecting some good hot authentic Louisiana blackened and fried catfish and etouffee, instead we served lukewarm dishes that lacked flavor. The entrees did not have enough rice to complement the amount of etouffee sauce that covered the plate. The fish and fried shrimp tasted ok, crawfish etouffee was NOT good and did NOT look or taste like a Louisiana crawfish etouffee. It was bland, flavorless, and only had three extremely small pieces of crawfish. The entire dish was below average and did not come across as a Louisiana favorite. When our food arrived delivered by a female employee who seemed to a member of management, I asked for some hot sauce. She brought us two nearly empty very UNSIGHTLY, non-eye appealing bottles of Tabasco sauce and stated, "I hope this is enough". How there you insult our intelligence and why would you serve that to paying guests dining in your restaurant? Those bottles should have been trashed and NEVER been in circulation. (See photos). My wife also had the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae which she said was hot and very good. After eating, I decided to visit the men's restroom. It was very dirty, disgusting, and seemed like it hadn't been cleaned all night. (See photos). I wanted to throw up after seeing the restroom and realizing I had just eaten in this restaurant. If I had visited the restroom before ordering and eating, I would have left immediately. In my opinion, a dirty restroom is a direct reflection of poor management and a relaxed staff with little to no standards. I don't mind paying for a good meal and a good dining experience, but this mediocre at best experience was NOT worth the $80 plus we spent. The food was NOT good, and the service was slow considering the restaurant was not busy. Very disappointed and a missed opportunity by leadership to win me back as guest. We were there as a group in one of the back rooms. Let me say it felt private and comfortable!…read more Just the right size! First time we had been there and we will go back! The parking lot has adequate spaces. The restaurant looks like it has enough seating for a good bit of customers. We had a party of approximately 15. We ordered several appetizers and entrees. The appetizers came out fairly quick. I didn't take a picture of it but we ordered the boudin egg-rolls. EXCUSE ME?? WHAT? YES!!! That good! Get them! I would've gotten them as a meal with a salad had I known! So good! I was intrigued by the muffuletta pizza so I ordered it on the cauliflower crust. Pretty good! Several people ordered the ribeye and said it was good. Nice size and it comes with a salad and another side. That is still a good deal in my opinion! Our server was really attentive. Sometimes when a restaurant is busy and the server has to wait other tables the people in the private rooms get forgotten. Not this time! They were great! We will go back if we are back in the area! Cheers!

Christmas party review…read more We had our Christmas party this year at Big Mike's and I could not be more happy. Savanah was our server and she was amazing. Big Mike's has several rooms you can use for your private event. There is no charge based on the number of people you have. We had around 15 this time but next year, look out. There are several fixed menus to choose from. For us, we went all out and got the $27 per person menu. Talk about a steal. It even included a ribeye and baked potato and everyone got a salad and cheesecake. The food all came out at the same time and my steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. You can add booze if you choose and their prices are very reasonable. Even though I paid the bill I have no idea what drinks cost but I do know one of the chocolate martinis someone drank was like $2-5 and double bourbons were super cheap for what we received. We did go to the bar next door after the party. There was a band and a bunch of interesting and friendly folks. If you need a private meal location, add Big Mike's to your list.

I'm giving them 5 stars for the atmosphere! Here on a Friday night and the jazz band is burnin'!…read more The patio ain't so bad on this sultry Louisiana evening as the fans are on full power from every angle. There have been a few servers helping me out this evening and they're all sweet like sugar, very kind ladies. There's a big plaque outside (see photo attached) that says the food is "pretty good." Hey, at least they're honest! I had French onion soup and shared a steak with a baked potato. It was pretty good. 10/10 recommend for the Friday night tunes.

How the mighty fall. Mariner's Inn used to be one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Hammond…read more Apparently the restaurant has changed hands, and the new direction it has taken disappoints me. The sports bar aspect of the business has been emphasized and the food quality diminished. The food isn't bad, but it's certainly not the standout it used to be. For example, the hamburger steak entre I ordered was okay, but it was $12 for the patty covered in gravy and mushrooms, one side, and "garlic bread." My side was plain rice - no extra brown gravy on it, despite my request - and the garlic bread strips were small. I suppose everything these days is expensive, but it felt underwhelming. I also ordered a cup of the soup of the day: shrimp and corn. My former favorite - I used to visit specifically for that dish - it's now best described as unmemorable. The service was friendly and fine, despite some mistakes. With one room now basically dedicated to the bar and pool tables, there's a more noticeable "sports bar" vibe, though I don't think there were a bunch of TVs in the dining area? I wasn't really paying attention to that. If you're looking for a place to play pool, drink, and eat something decent, sure, this is still a good bet. But if you're just looking to go out and have a great meal in Hammond, Mariner's Inn no longer makes the recommendation list.
