How the mighty fall. Mariner's Inn used to be one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in Hammond. Apparently the restaurant has changed hands, and the new direction it has taken disappoints me. The sports bar aspect of the business has been emphasized and the food quality diminished. The food isn't bad, but it's certainly not the standout it used to be. For example, the hamburger steak entre I ordered was okay, but it was $12 for the patty covered in gravy and mushrooms, one side, and "garlic bread." My side was plain rice - no extra brown gravy on it, despite my request - and the garlic bread strips were small. I suppose everything these days is expensive, but it felt underwhelming. I also ordered a cup of the soup of the day: shrimp and corn. My former favorite - I used to visit specifically for that dish - it's now best described as unmemorable. The service was friendly and fine, despite some mistakes. With one room now basically dedicated to the bar and pool tables, there's a more noticeable "sports bar" vibe, though I don't think there were a bunch of TVs in the dining area? I wasn't really paying attention to that. If you're looking for a place to play pool, drink, and eat something decent, sure, this is still a good bet. But if you're just looking to go out and have a great meal in Hammond, Mariner's Inn no longer makes the recommendation list. read more

Nine cousins met there to exchange Christmas presents on Dec. 27, 2025. Our Waitress was named Joy and she was excellent. She was attentive but not over bearing. She made suggestions from the menu and had all of our food on the table at the same time. The food was very good and I highly recommend the hamburger which I ordered medium rare. The others in our group ordered other items and everyone was very pleased with their food selection. The menu offers a variety of items so everyone can find something they like. I ordered a cocktail and found it to be excellent. I would highly recommend Mariner's Inn for a casual but really good meal. The ambiance was good to me as it featured pictures of older shipping vessels and items. Overall an excellent place to eat and or drink. read more

Went inside with a friend to attempt to eat and was ignored. The front was empty we waited a while and immediately walked out.

Now Mariners is apparently a pool hall with a restaurant in the back. Wow. Shocking and sad. Apparently the new owners and management didn't understand that much of the allure and ambiance of Mariners Inn was being able to sit and overlook the old fashioned downtown Hammond through the front windows. I'll eat in a restaurant that has pool tables tucked away in the back, however I most likely wouldn't eat in a pool hall with a restaurant in the back. Friday night when everyone else around you are slammed and you have an empty restaurant maybe try a rewind and just copy what Bruce did for forty years instead of trying to fix what wasn't broken. I can't bring myself to rate Mariners less than a three star but frankly these days that may be generous. Please do better. read more

Every time I order an appetizer, you'll give me the wrong one and whenever I send it back, the cooks are pissed about it bc THEY FK'd up! They ruined the dish, where it's not even edible.. I've come here all of my life. I don't wanna go back here anymore because of this keeps happening over and over and over again.... I've been putting off making this review for a very long time. Came down to Hammond to give this place a try and minus the parallel parking which I suck at it was all good! We came in and told to sit ourselves and the waitress came over and got us rollin. I can tell this place has a mix of audience the college students and the locals. I liked this because it means they can pull a crowd in. We sat inside which was kind of dark(wish they had a little more light) but they also have a patio option that looks more updated. Overall to the food- the wings are delicious- the pork chop was super tender and really good- the chicken sandwich (which apparently is really well known) was a hit with my hubs. We happened to come on wing Wednesday which is currently a dozen wings for 10. Drinks were ok from the bar but I'll be back bc their the first I've seen to serve cocktails by the pitcher so I'll try something different on my next go. Overall this place is good to get a bite to eat and open late which is a plus. read more

We gave them another chance and the failed miserably. Hair in the food, watered down drinks and in addition the hair, the bun and hamburger were a little burnt. They brought out one item at a time(10-15 minutes between each). Oh and they didnt have a key to the pool table that wasnt working right which was the main reason we went there again. My have far this once stellar burger joint has fallen. I recently dined here for the first time in 30 years. The burgers used to rival POC in Nola. Now they serve an overcooked and flavorless patty on stale bread. Ambiance is fine, it is a dive by nature. Service was a bit slow. read more

Something I just noticed on the menu under Appetizers. The side items are bar nibbles, olives, pickles, and picked pearl onions. The sauces are a mayonnaise tangy and chili pepper oil. The only item that didn't fit the menu description is the crackers. It was noted that they are homemade. Not exactly. They are deep-fried saltine crackers. If the meat is oil, having fried crackers is not the best accompanying. You can pick from 6 different canned seafood items. Pictured is the clams (not open) and octopus (opened). I'm giving them 5 stars for the atmosphere! Here on a Friday night and the jazz band is burnin'! The patio ain't so bad on this sultry Louisiana evening as the fans are on full power from every angle. There have been a few servers helping me out this evening and they're all sweet like sugar, very kind ladies. There's a big plaque outside (see photo attached) that says the food is "pretty good." Hey, at least they're honest! I had French onion soup and shared a steak with a baked potato. It was pretty good. 10/10 recommend for the Friday night tunes. read more

Food- pork chop with a sauce was delicious . I forgot what the sauce was called. The pork chop was cooked tender and very good. Onion rings were a bit overcooked so that was a bummer. My company said the roast beef sandwich was bland. Place- pool table was nice, the place was ehhh and dingy. The bathroom was, well they need a desperate remodel because it was terrible and raggedy. If you are in a wheel chair, I feel for ya unless there are more than one bathrooms there. There is a pole by the bar that makes tacky conversation as to why? Chairs were wobbly. Overall- would not go back unless I was craving that pork chop, which I doubt. I would get it to go though. read more

Decided to sit at the bar and grab a drink and a bite to eat. I recommend the pitcher of margarita and the Fried chicken Alfredo. The Alfredo sauce is so creamy and a MUST TRY! Couldn't get a picture of the salad that came with the pasta because I ate it before I could get a picture. Ranch dressing is *chefs kiss* AMAZING!! My crawfish pies were microwaved and cold in the middle, some of the food took a while to come and the service wasn't great.. no greeting at the door, no sign telling us to wait to be seated or seat ourselves. I've had lunch here several times when I'm in Hammond and I'm never disappointed. I enjoy the laid back atmosphere and the food is always delicious. The wait staff is friendly and helpful. Mariner's Inn is one of my favorite places when we are in the Hammond area. I love the outdoor patio when the weather is nice. It's a fun place to watch the world go by. Mariner's seems to attract both young and old, and if you're lucky you may be able to catch some live music while you're there. I've never had anything I didn't like when I have visited. The burgers are great, and we've enjoyed steaks there as well. Mariner's will always hold a special place in my heart for personal reasons. The carpet in this place is DISGUSTING and smelly.... I had soup and salad with a Bloody Mary; salad was under-garnished, crab and corn soup had fake crab meat, it had the same texture as the noodles in chicken noodle soup- so gross, also cheese fries didn't have nearly enough cheese. Bloody Mary was waaaaay too sweet. Last time I went I had a hamburger steak that was tough and mashed potato that tasted microwaved... the gumbo was pretty good so that's why I gave it an extra star. I love the live music but the food and carpet inside needs revamping, it smells like throw up when you walk through the door. Also there was a really passive aggressive sign in the bathroom that said something about if employees were crying to just go home... that's not funny, classy or professional it's passive aggressive and shady. If my family member worked in an environment with that attitude I would encourage them to leave ASAP. Employees deserve respect. Probably won't be back unless a BIG change happens. read more

Oh my goodness gracious! Mariner's Inn is my kind of place. I recently found myself in Ponchatoula with some time to kill while my oldest rehearsed for the choir. Having absolutely no clue where to go, I consulted with my go to expert on all things Tangi. My buddy Topher grew up nearby in one of the funniest named towns: Pumkin Center, LA. Seriously y'all, that's the name of the town. Anyway, he recommended Mariner's so that's where I headed. When I got to downtown Hammond I was surprised how crowded it was, especially for a Thursday night. I had to circle the block a few times before finally finding a parking sport right out front. I had to parallel park, but remembered smooth fluid movements and next thing you know, I was parked. Mariner's had a nautical theme which made sense. There were maps, ships wheels, glass fishing floats and other nautical themed items on display. I guess that type of decor is not for everyone, but for me, it brought back great memories of visiting my grandparents house. My grandfather was a mariner and his house was decorated the same way. Despite being very busy, I was able to score a table in the main dining area. Mariner's definitely had a bar type feel, but there were kids in there so it was family friendly. Service was friendly and the menu was larger than most bar/restaurant combos I've visited, but something caught my eye. Jim and Dave's kickin chicken was their signature item, and what my buddy recommended, so that's what I ordered. Since it was named Kickin Chicken, I expected buffalo sauce or some spicy topping. In actuality it was a chicken tender sandwich with cheddar and ranch. I was slightly underwhelmed until I took that first bite. Whatever they did, they knew what they were doing. That was one damn good sandwich. The best part was the sandwich with fries was only $9. There was also a check in offer for buy one get one free draft beer so for under $20 with tip I had a couple of Gnarley Barley drafts and the sandwich and fries. I would have gladly paid $94 for this meal, but appreciated the great value. Since I am rarely in Hammond I don't know how often I'll get to visit Mariner's, but if you find yourself in the area, I strongly recommend you pay them a visit. read more

Joined some friends here for lunch on a holiday. Service was okay - she wasn't really personable or chipper, even when we tried to engage her. She seemed annoyed that we needed more time after we were catching up. Just wasn't impressed with our server at all. Appetizers were okay. Friend mushrooms were nothing to write home about, but they gave you plenty for the table. I ordered the "famed" portobello sandwich - it was barely the size of a three inch thing you run into. The bread was okay, but it was too much for that sandwich. My friends love Mariner's for their nights out. For me, it was okay, but not a destination for me the next time i go to Hammond. read more
