The service here was extremely good. They hire great staff members. We reserved a private room for my graduation lunch and were very well taken care of. Our waitress was very friendly and respectful, answered all questions, and made suggestions. Unfortunately, most of the menu items I tried were a hit or miss for different reasons. The charbroiled oysters were ok, but some had too much cheese and not enough flavor. My seafood trio came cold, and cold fried food isn't really as enjoyable. Some others at the table dishes were also cold. The catfish is actually swai. That is highly misleading, especially in Louisiana. It should simply be labeled "fried fish." In addition, my pros were as follows. The salad is really fresh and delicious. It was so good on its own, all it needed was a little salt and pepper. The bread pudding was soooo good, I loved the sauce. Having it warmed was also a huge plus. Overall, some minor changes could definitely boost this spot's rating. read more

Its not really far from BR looks a little conspicuous in a strip mall behind a gas station but good is 10/10. Had a snafu with the server, but the manager stepped in and helped the new waitstaff get it right. Huge oysters-not the tiny ones weve eaten elsewhere. Everything was really good. If youre looking for a good Oyster destination try them out for sure! read more

Great place for brunch with live music. Never been disappointed. Grilled oysters are the best. Wish they had a few more wines to choose from for evening time. read more

For a bar and grill this place was pretty chill. The dining area was about half full with only a handful of patrons at the bar, we were told we arrived during the "calm before the storm". We opened the doors unsure if we should sit anywhere or wait to be seated but before we had a chance to pull out chairs for ourselves a young lady asked us how many in our party as she guided us to a nice little corner table big enough for me and my three kids. She had menus in hand and seemed to have our drinks back to us before I could open the cover. I wanted to try a variety and our server recommended the Half Shell Seafood platter. I decided to mix it up a little and opted for blackened catfish and shrimp, grilled oysters, and of course a deep fried crab cake and a deep fried stuffed shrimp. This platter also came with a side salad and a bowl of seafood gumbo. All of it was too shelf and tasted like it was made to order. For an appetizer I went with the crispy artichoke hearts and let me tell ya, that was the right choice! The artichokes came out first and I had never had any other than in a spinach dip, now I couldn't imagine having them any other way. The perfect combination of tart and robust with a crispy, crunchy coating, these little vegetable orgasms were sprinkled with fresh shredded Parmesan and paired perfectly with the house marinara sauce. The order was big enough for both me and my two kids, but I devoured the plate before they had a chance to eat more than just a few. Even the blooming onion takes a backseat to my new favorite app. When the Half Shell Platter arrived I was anxious to see what kind of shock my tastebuds were about to experience and I was surprised in the best way. The catfish was cooked to perfection with a blackened flavor you can't match at home. The shrimp too, perfectly cooked and seasoned with no trace of a rubbery bite or overpowering flavor. First time having oysters grilled and I've got to say raw will always reign supreme, but these were a close second. The rest of the plate was what you'd expect, predictable and delicious. Not the kind of hole in the wall establishment I was looking for, but exactly the kind of authenticity. The server kept the drinks full and the table clear. We had a next to nothing wait time and the food was a 10/10. Well deserving of a five star rating, if I'm ever back in Baton Rouge I'll be stopping in again. read more

Hello to my hungry friends. I visited On The Half Shell in Lafayette, LA tonight for the first time and must say it exceeded my expectations. Well Done Chef!!! It is now on the top of my list for restaurants to visit again in the near future. Vince read more

I love the food, service, and ambience of this place. They have their slightly more upscale side of the building, that's great for a more intimate setting and then they have their bar side where the band plays and has a more relaxed setting to it . So rather you're going here to celebrate an anniversary or just an evening brunch with friends, this place will make everyone feel good with the flowing drinks and food! The food is very good. I've had their (charbroiled) oysters and then their brunch (traditional style) and I have never been let down by the delicious food and exceptional service! We definitely need more good quality places like this around Prairieville in my opinion, glad to see this place going it right. read more

Went to meet clients. Table of four. Special was Taco's. I ordered with grilled shrimp with Pico on the side. Pico was added by mistake, no problem but the grilled shrimp was so spicy, unedible. Looked blackened. I just took the shrimp off and ate the lettuce, tomato and sour cream taco because I was hungry and didnt want to make a scene and time was an issue. Never again. I was concerned about the Pico being too spicy but the shrimp was horrible, simply too hot. Staff should pay better attention. read more

Had the pleasure of visiting On the half shell last night for dinner with some regulars. They literally told me they have never had anything off the menu, they didn't like. Overall good experience, came around lunch time and not a lot of people to be seated immediately and drinks immediately. Came back for our appetizer quickly for it to come out just as quickly!! (Which was AMAZING) the crawfish and shrimp dip. Our food also came out pretty quickly, I had the NOLA BBQ shrimp and my spouse had the catfish covered in etouffee (don't remember the name) which was awesome. Only complaint about the BBQ shrimp was HEART BURN and omg so much butter. It was still good but couldn't eat more than half. read more

Our server, Natalie was excellent... friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The food was so-so. I tried the Guidry oysters (sample of different oysters) they were freshly made, but the regular chargrilled oysters didn't have much flavor.... I prefer more butter/cheese blend. The toast didn't even have butter on it & it didn't have much butter to "sop" up from the plate. The Nola oysters weren't much better in flavor. The other specialty oysters like Oyster Rockefeller, etc. were good . The crispy artichokes were good, fresh & hot... it was our first time having them. I ordered the traditional breakfast with French toast instead of pancakes. The French toast was decent & would've been great if it was soaked just a little more in batter & fresh. ... the grits & eggs needed some salt & pepper & butter. Bacon was crispy how I like. I unfortunately found a hair on my toast & my server sincerely apologized & offered a gumbo instead. My boyfriend ordered steak & eggs. He said the steak was a lil too salty & it wasn't that fresh either. We unfortunately didn't have live music when we dined, but the games were on and the atmosphere was nice. read more

I've been coming here for a while now, and have never had a bad experience. I absolutely love their burgers and New Orleans BBQ shrimp. They have the best BBQ shrimp I have ever had. It is jam packed with flavor and so good. Their burgers are the same way. If you're someone who appreciates good flavor in food (not spicy just flavorful) then this is the place for you. One of the newer restaurants in Baton Rouge. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was awesome, but I can't remember her name! She had a zebra face mask. I ordered my favorite thing, fried shrimp and they did not disappoint. They were seasoned and fried to perfection. They serve some of the best fries I have eaten, and THE BEST fried okra ever. I would come back just for the okra. But no give the restaurant a try. Until we meet again!! read more

Update: I'm mot sure why this place hasn't made it to my list of regular haunts, but I think it will. Had a blackened seafood salad and it was just perfect! Chargrilled oysters were excellent, and the people we were with all had great meals. And again, casual, friendly service. Just a great place to get good food and good service. ------------ Came in for a late lunch and probably won't need supper. Good and filling food in a clean atmosphere. Service was nice and leisurely- no hurried, rushed feeling (maybe that's an artifact of eating when there is no lunch rush). Shrimp po-boy was served on good crusty bread and dressed perfectly. The shrimp were a bit small but fried to a very nice golden brown and seasoned well. Chicken and andouille gumbo was a nice rich brown color (with all the attendant flavor that goes with it) and well seasoned. Wife's seafood stuffed potato was, indeed, stuffed. Lots of shrimp and lumps of crabmeat and great seasoning. (Personally, I think crabmeat is too light and delicate for this kind of heavy treatment, but it was a good dish.) A guy at the table next to us had a huge hamburger that looked very good with a nice pile of golden, crispy looking fries. Good food and a bit pricey - everything on the lunch menu was 12 or 13 dollars (except for the $8 BLT). But good food is worth it, right? read more

I'm giving it 2 stars only because of the food. The service was great. Started with 1 dozen grilled oysters. The were the size of my thumb nail, ordered a French dip Po boy, It was lousy, actually I can say 1 of the worst I've ever had. But I again stress the waitress was fine read more

Started coming here years ago for crab claws and cold beer. I have been away for several years couldn't wait to bring my girl to some great food. Sadly, disappointed, the Crabcake Carolina and Black redfine mornay was terrible. No crab in the crabcake all breading. The drinks were terrible. We drive 45 mins and spent a lot of money for terrible food. I am so sad that on of my fav spots has deteriorated. read more

Dinner on a Friday night for our party of 10... the restaurant wasn't very busy. It was nicely decorated and was clean. Our server was very friendly and the service we received was great. We ordered the Spinach & Artichoke Dip and the Onion rings appetizers. The onion rings were outstanding. The breading was well-seasoned and you could taste the slight hint of beer flavor. My Caesar salad was also good. Dressing was great and the lettuce was fresh. For my main, I ordered the Crawfish on the Bluff with stuffed potato. Although the stuffed potato was good, the catfish was too thin and the etoufee was so very salty I could not eat it. There was not nearly enough etouffee compared to the amount of fish but since it was so salty this was actually a good thing. Someone else at my table got the same dish and also found it to be extremely salty. I also got to try the Barbeque shrimp which was extremely salty as well, and the Praline Chicken which was good. read more

Great food, service and live music! Do yourself a favor and enjoy all three at a great place.

I love this restaurant! The staff is friendly and the food is good! I love the Crawfish on the Bluff. My husband orders the chargrilled oysters every time. I order fried pickles for a starter. Would be a "5" if the bartender actually knew what scotch they had behind the bar or could make a proper Old Fashioned....but alas that bartender wasn't working tonight... Now let's talk about the good...$14 for a dozen raw is a helluva deal in Ascension Parish and I ended up with 17 because some were on the smallish side...but all were perfect Gulf oysters, the right amount of sweet and salty... The catfish platter I ordered was awesome...4 huge filets fried just right...Tartar sauce was on point... The sister ordered the Guidry's Dozen which is where you can mix & match Chargrilled, Bienville, Rockefeller, NOLA BBQ and Fromaggio...they were tasty but I preferred the Chargrilled and the Bienville... My first time eating here but definitely not my last...maybe they'll have a better bartender next time read more

I've never gotten something from here that I did not like. A good place to bring someone for Cajun food.

Oh man, this is a hidden gem! Their oysters are amazing! Of course the raw oysters are good, but raw oysters don't really vary from restaurant to restaurant. Their charbroiled oysters are something else though! I also really enjoy their outdoor seating, so if you don't want to be inside, there's options. To make it better they have been known to have live music outdoors from time to time. Lastly the place has always been clean for me and the staff have always been friendly. Important for a 5 star review. Check them out. They're hidden away in a corner right off Airline. read more

It's been years since I've eaten here and only my second visit. We came on a Sunday around 6pm. It was not busy/crowded, we sat where we wanted. The dining area was nice and quiet. There's a bar area/room adjacent to the dining area which is good for those who wish to enjoy drinks and watching sports. Our waitress, Sarah, was excellent. She was very nice and attentive. I ordered a shrimp and corn soup for an appetizer and seafood salad as my dinner. My husband got the soft shell crab (they come in 1 or 2 crab portions). He obviously got the 2 crab portion...lol. Everything we ordered was very good! Made and cooked perfectly. Great flavors. Definitely recommend and I will come back for more read more

Had a blast spending an evening in the bar area with my family watching my cousin's band play. Nice crowd. They actually had to reserve a few tables to make sure we were able to sit together; although, the acoustics in this place aren't really suited for live music. The oysters looked great but I didn't have any that night; instead I ordered the Shrimp Remoulade Salad. Seemed a bit pricy with that and a Diet Coke coming out to around eighteen dollars. It was worth it I guess but if you don't want to pay to play, this may not be the place for you. If I lived in that area, I'd probably be a regular so you should definitely check it out. read more

Stopped in for lunch Picante di frimaggio was what I got, plus the shrimp and crawfish dip. And blackened mixed grill. Food: I got the broiled dozen of the picante which was in different sizes of oyster. It definitely was delicious, yet I wished they chucked it a bit better because it was gritty. I've been to other places where you don't have to worry about extra grit from the oyster shell. The crawfish & Shrimp dip definitely was my fave, I loved the tortilla/flouta chips it came with. Hot gooey, and crunchy combination was perfect! The Blackened mixed grill was great, it had a nice kick to it. Service: great attitude and attentive. Decor': very traditional and modern blend, high bistro style seating, oyster bar in the middle, small stage for entertainment. Plasma tv for sports. Restroom: clean and elegant. Overall it was very filling, all they need to work on is the cleaning on the chucked oysters, so no one has a problem chewing on hard tiny pieces of oyster shell.
