I've been a hand full of times and I only liked the corn fritters... however, I had a friend's event that I couldn't not go and eat and I was left with a good impression. The previous times they were always sold out of the burger and didn't like how their bbq just tasted like they added fish sauce to put an Asian twist to bbq. But I was able to try the burger finally and it was good. I wouldn't go out of my way to come het their burger though.. I enjoyed the chicken karage as well. It was still crunchy even with the honey(?) on top. Very spacious inside and nice workers. I will say it wasn't busy on a weekday after lunch but they were a bit slow with some of the drink orders.. the last Sapporo was brought out after we had paid our bill and all gotten up, getting ready to leave... when someone brought out the Sapporo... we ended up having to drink it and paying for it after the tabs were all closed. We started with the oak-grilled edamame. Normally not something I get excited about, but these came out with a perfect char, lemon zest, and Sriracha seasoning. One bite and I was smiling like Bad Bunny just dropped a surprise track. I was on the imaginary dance floor, grinding with a pod of edamame like we had history. Then out walks her bold best friend: Chicken Karaage. Think chicken nuggets but went to culinary school. The scenery, service, and set up is great. We sat outside and they have plenty of different kinds of seating along with fans and water spray things to keep cool. It's a very Instagram place in my opinion. It doesn't have a painted wall I don't think but the seating and the way it's set up just feels very aesthetic if that's your thing. Friendly staff and incredibly fast service. Our food always comes out quickly. Every time I go, the sesame noodles, butchers cut beef, and melon arugula salad are must orders. Decided to give this place another shot after more than a year away from it. Unfortunately, the experience was--again--not great. While the ambiance is still amazing, I still cannot recommend Loro. A friend and I went for lunch recently. He ordered the lunch special which was essentially a fast-food "knockoff" hamburger and some potato wedges. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken. My friend usually has no trouble clearing his plate but, at the end of the meal, 1/3 of his rather small hamburger remained and more than half of his potatoes. Neither looked particularly appetizing. My Caesar was, in two words, small and oily. Usually salads at restaurants are oversized but that's not a concern here. This salad was paltry, probably about half the size of what you'd expect. The chicken that accompanied it had a nice fry, but was extremely oily, and that's really all I could taste of it. That oil permeated throughout the salad and just made for an unpleasant lunch meal. Really, however, the reason I'm writing an update is the price of our meal. For just the two of us with a couple of fountain drinks and the salad and lunch "special" above, our tab was $48. To spend $24 per person for sub-par food at a restaurant that requires you to wait in a line to order, does not offer table service, and has soda fountains for beverage service is just not worth it. read more

Came here last night and let me tell you, I WILL BE BACK!! There is lots of outdoor and indoor seating, outdoors they have misters so you aren't dying in the Houston summer heat which was nice. The outside is so cute and the inside is really cute as well. As for service, you go inside to the bar to order and then people will come to your table and bring you your food. The guy that took my order was really nice and all the servers were so nice as well. There were flies once our food showed up, but servers were walking around outside giving little wind fans to tables to shoo the flies away which was awesome. As for food, my friend and I both got the Typhoon drink, brisket tostadas, smoked beef brisket, and Texas sweet corn. The typhoon drink was AMAZING! I loved the hint of passion fruit. The tostadas were really good too, there's only 2 so if you have more than 2 people that you're eating with get another order. I loved the sauce that they put on the tostadas, and how crunchy the corn tortilla was. The brisket was also AMAZING! You would thing getting brisket and brisket tostadas, it would taste the same. This place is great! The drinks, food, and vibes do not disappoint. My boyfriend does not like how you have to wait in line for each food or drink item to order and they bring it to your seat. If it is busy this becomes a long line, but then you don't have to worry about a server finding you in the busy restaurant. Mmm just thinking about Loro makes me want to go again! They have so many tasty options, even including the tofu rice bowl for any vegetarian friends. The best time to come here is on a Tues/Wed around 5pm. This is the sweet spot when happy hour is going strong, their monthly special is being served (usually only on Tues/Wed after 4pm), and it's just in time for an early dinner to wait for rush hour traffic to die down. Their happy hour menu has a really good selection of discounted food and drinks. We love the $5 frozen drinks like the frozen gin and tonic, rum colada, or frozen vietnamese coffee. For food, we order a little bit of everything and just share family style. Our favorites include sesame noodles, chicken karaage, smoked salmon dip, green curry hushpuppies, caramelized onion cheddar burger, crispy smoked chicken sandwich, and pulled pork sandwich. These items are honestly a steal on the HH menu. If you're smart enough to come here on a Tues/Wed after 4pm, be sure to try whatever monthly special they have going on. Upon entering Loro HTX I almost collided with 5 different people. After *almost* toppling two people, the last 3 were quickly alerted of my apparent trance and swiftly dodged my chaotic saunter through the middle of the building. I looked like an American seeing a Medieval European village for the first time as I took in every detail of this converted building, trying to assess what was new and what was left over from it's days as a church. I think it's retained some holy elements, because the vibes in this space are immaculate (side note, I wonder how cringy that sentence will be in 10 years. Let's hope the business sticks around so we can check back in then). What I found interesting about the dining space is that there are what feels like enclaves to chose from depending on your mood or interest. There are outside covered or uncovered tables, communal or private tables, and the inside is so large that different corners of the space carry their own charms. Service: Generous, very chill, and lightning fast food arrival even when busy. I will admit the counter ordering was slightly confusing and a little awkward with the diners right next to me. I am not sure if there was one or more spots to order from, but it was easy, simple, and quick to order regardless. Food: Veggies! What? For a smokehouse Loro HTX has an impressive amount of small plates for vegetable lovers like me (zucchini, salads, grilled peas, and if you consider corn a veg: sweet corn). We genuinely loved every single dish we ordered and it made me excited to go back again and again until I have ordered the whole menu. I tend to not be a fan of sweeter dishes, but even the unexpected sweetness of the karaage ended up being pleasant and well balanced. This location was formally the site of the West Eleventh Church of God (#1), which explains the unique look. They've done an outstanding job of converting the space into so much more: spacious indoor communal dining, large counter / bar areas, a private partitioned space for special occasions, and a robust outdoor area during good weather months. The concept of Asian-inspired BBQ is nothing new in Texas, but I think they've done a good job of making everything creative and tasty. Personally, I think the best time to come here is during their happy hour (2pm-6pm), where most items are discounted, which include a selection of drinks. Once my people arrived, they got some tatora which were good. 3/5 and burnt snap peas. They were not at all crispy, but they were blackened and tasty 4/5. For my entree I had the Crispy Smoked Chicken 5/5. Crispy fried edges, with good flavor, and the chicken had the right amount of moist. Definitely a go-to if you're a repeat customer. The drinks were also very good. I started with the slushy sampler. In order of preference: Gin & Tonic, Mango Sake, and Sangria 4/5. They also had a Vietnamese Coffee, which was okay. They have a great happy hour selection and would highly recommend going during this time. Their happy hour prices are decent. This is a hard one. Why? The food is quite delicious, but among the dishes I tried tonight, I could only find two things which were actually Asian inspired: 1) they used shisito peppers, and 2) they used "Asian" in their name "Asian Smokehouse". That's about it. We tried: Corn fritters - gorgeous, crunchy, tasty fritters packed with flavor. The dipping sauce looks innocent, but packs a sneaky capsaicin punch. Nothing very Asian though. Green curry hush puppies - easily the best hush puppies I've ever eaten. Most are as dense as ballistic gel. Not these, they are as airy as can be, unimaginably so, perfectly fried, and scrumptious. Not much curry flavor to be detected, so equally not very Asian. Brisket sammich - this is is slightly more Asian with the use of green papaya salad (unsure if it's more of a Thai, Vietnamese, or Laotian play). But it's also slightly more puzzling. The brisket itself was just "ok"...scratching my head as Franklin is part of this gig. Meat was super tender, but lacked much smokiness at all...almost an oven/pot-roasty brisket. Smoked bavette - the absolute hit of the night as far as I'm concerned. First, getting a bavette cut on the menu...bravo. One of the tastiest there is. Secondly, cooked to a perfect medium rare. Third, the kiss of smoke on this was surgical...not too much, not too little (albeit more than I tasted in the brisket). The only ding I could give this dish is that it's 1/2 - 2/3 the size of what they advertise in the pic on their website. And like I said, the Asian part was the 2 shisito peppers on the side. As our sides, we had the crunchy cabbage salad which was outstanding, far better than what I was expecting. Additionally we had the crispy potatoes, also excellent. The dipping sauce for the potatoes has a lot of Asian ingredients according to the menu, but honestly, none were prominent enough to discern. The staff were all fantastic, super friendly and helpful. A big improvement could be made on the ordering process though. Rather than have folks keep getting back up and in line, why aren't more restaurants using an app where they can order and pay from the table as you go? Will I come back? Most likely yes because the food was a knockout all around (maybe except the brisket sandwich), and the staff and service were great. Is this very Asian? Sadly, not really, maybe just a little. I've been coming to Loro for YEARS and I am always impressed. I've always gone to the Loro in Austin, but found very quickly that they also exist in Houston. Loro is inside of an old church and the building itself is beautiful. There is ample seating inside and outside (although, I have not gotten a chance to sit outside yet, maybe when it's cooler). I recently visited this past weekend after returning home from travel and I felt the effects of jet-lag pretty intensely. I sat at the bar and Riccardo, Avery and Ryan took care of me. I order pretty much the same thing every time I am here- The chicken rice bowl is to die for. It has all the flavors you could want. I could honestly have this bowl every single day. In Austin, the parking is pretty inconvenient, but I do like that this location has more options. Be aware though, Loro is REALLY popular so even with their ample parking, you may struggle to find a spot. The other thing of note- the back of the building is typically valet but can only serve a super limited number of cars. read more

We came to their happy hour - really good, really delicious food. Drinks were fun, great for the price. The whole menu looks promising and we will come back to try more of their offerings! As for the environment of the place, it's a wonderful open and airy spot that would be great for families and big parties, or small dates if you prefer. We loved the vibe. read more
