I heard that there was line dancing on Landsdowne street, and had to investigate. I tried to talk a few friends into joining me, but their loss, they missed out. I had this image in my mind of a line dance going like this: A song starts playing. Some one says, "Come on, everyone! You know what to do! Grapevine!" and then you have an instant dance crew. I was not disappointed. Lorettas hosts a line dance night on Tuesday, and Sunday nights where professional dancers come in to teach line dances at regular intervals. That is your chance to get up, and moving as a new comer, but they also play a few songs in between each lesson. That is where the adventure begins. They typically play songs that at least a small group of people know a dance to. If you are brave enough, you can try to follow along as they kick, hop, stomp, and turn to those hot country beats. Maybe you will get it. Maybe you will just be jumping around at random, but give it a shot. It is consistently a hoot. My favorite part was definitely when the DJ played Footloose. It is a dope song, but the real fun happened because some people knew one dance to the song, and others a different one, so you know what that means: accidental dance crew battle! I had no idea what either of the dances were, but I saw this going down, and wanted in. I immediately pledged allegiance to the WEST SIDE of the room, and we were off to the races. The line dancing crowd is also really fun, and sociable. I had no problem striking up conversations with any one from a British car salesman to a Minnesotan transplant to a group of regulars. Every one was in high spirits, and sociable, because we are all in the same boat: determined to dance like we knew what we were doing. If you have a free evening on a Tuesday, or Sunday I recommend that you mosey on down to Lorettas Last Call for a good time. That is where the action is. read more

Solid breakfast/brunch place. Came here on new years day to try out the brunch. I have tried chicken and waffles in most major US cities, so I was excited to give this place a try. let's get into it... Chicken and waffles: Okay yall probably know the Boston fried chicken scene has a tendency to be really white-washed and lack flavor. So I am happy to report that the actual fried chicken was seasoned and tasted pretty good! Here is the tricky thing though, they serve this chicken and waffles with a huge glob of butter...not on the waffle...on the chicken. Strange in the world of chicken and waffles. And they cover the chicken in syrup, but not just any syrup, this syrup has some barbecue sauce flavor/component to it? weird. So as a cohesive dish, it was good but just strange. I wish they would have put the syrup on the side and put the butter on the waffle or also on the side. There was so much syrup, it really drenched the waffle so I couldn't even really taste the waffle. It's a really nice serving size so I took almost half home, and I don't even know if I will eat it because the barbecue taste in syrup is just...weird and everything will definitely be soggy. Pulled pork and jalapeno frittata: pretty good. Could have used more jalapenos but definitely a solid brunch option Service: Okay so this was also weird. We ordered coffee, and it was brought out with a small container of cream but no sugar and no spoon to stir in the cream. No worries, we ask the waitress for sugar and small spoon, she says "oh we don't have small spoons, but i can bring you a regular one". Strange, she could have just said okay i will get you a spoon. Most places just offer you something to stir your coffee with, I don't understand why she needed to say this. Fast forward to end of the meal, I ask for the check and a to go box. She brings the check and I start to put the food in the to go box. She comes back within a couple minutes, picks up the check to see if we have put the card in. Strange, its only been a couple minutes and I am clearly still putting stuff in to go box. She comes by again to grab plates right after I finished packing the food, she picks up the check AGAIN to check for our payment. Strange. As someone who has worked at a restaurant, this is not protocol. So finally I go ahead and put the card in the check to pay it and head out quickly. I really am confused about what was up with the waitress given they weren't busy at all. The whole thing with the coffee and then the check, just strange and it wasn't like she checked in on us a lot throughout the meal which I personally liked. The host at the front was nice so and the live music was loud but chill so I wanted to like this place...but weird. the food was okay, but yea I won't come here again and can't recommend it read more

Worst bar I've ever been to, got kicked out for literally dancing, dancing! That's the whole point of the bar. A lady who didn't even work there told us to get off the dance floor because we were "amateurs" and then proceeded to tell security to kick us out because we were unlawfully filming people when my girlfriend was filming me dance because we were having fun, essentially got kicked out for not knowing the dance. And we weren't interrupting or running into people effecting their time we were on the side doing our own thing, and some people have nothing better to do than line dance I guess. If you enjoy strict places I guess come here but don't come here for a casual night out to have fun. Bar manager was horrific the short blonde stubby woman approached us before we knew what was going on screamed at us to not get in her face and all she wanted was to fight. regulars didn't enjoy new company either, rather than showing us the new dance and having fun they were rude and told us not to dance. literally said word for word " if your an amateur get off the dance floor please". Idk if it's just me never being exposed to this scene of bars but it was ridiculous and if you enjoy this good for you but like I said not fun for a casual night out. read more

I had made a reservation for dinner at 6:30pm and NOWHERE when making this reservation did it say ID was needed to enter. When we arrived the bouncer was asking for our IDs and one of the people in my group didn't have their ID with them (why would someone bring an ID to dinner if they don't even drink??) and one doesn't even HAVE an ID, and the bouncer was very rude to us. I tried showing her my ID at least but when she took it she said I'm not 21 (my ID literally says my birthday on it and I am 23 years old.) We tried explaining that our group was there to literally eat a meal at a table and that we had a reservation, but the bouncer was continually rude to us and would not let us sit for our reservation we made. What would have happened if my reservation for was for me and my family who has children under 16 that don't even have ID...are you going to turn us away then too? There is not a SINGLE place on your website or when making my reservation that says ID is needed to enter. Between this absurd policy and very rude bouncer, I am infuriated. It is infuriating to me that on a Monday at 6:30pm only those with identification and apparently 21+ are allowed inside. Horrible experience overall and would NEVER recommend coming here to anybody. read more

Disclaimer: this is written by a Texan with high standards! I came to Loretta's with a bunch of friends from work. I had an amazing waitress (Stacy) who made sure I was satisfied and God bless her. If you are from the south and a snob about good southern food, I wouldn't get too excited. I got the chicken fried steak only to find it was a pork chop....yeah I didn't see that coming. I did try a bite and it was pretty awful. BUT! My waitress saw my displeasure and promptly took it back and got me something else, no problem. The biscuits are awesome but don't get the cream gravy. It's just water. A friend got the chicken and waffles, and though different, you have to try it. The waffle and sauce are amazing. The moonshine is top notch and does not disappoint. I had margaritas all night and loved them. The band was so good, true country sound and loved the atmosphere. For a lost Texan, it was a nice relief from Yankee Land. A little bit of Texas on Lansdown right next to Fenway Park, Loretta's has that lively and friendly southern feel to it. I was here on a bar crawl with my daughter and her group of about 25 - and Loretta's was stop #1 so you know my review is legit (later in the crawl, everyone would probably get 5 stars and a sloppy "I love you guys"). Our waiter was welcoming and accommodating despite our group's multiple different tabs and constant shuffling around. We only drank here but I'm happy to say Loretta's has all my TX standards - tito's, various flavors of deep eddy (thankfully my ruby red!), and of course shiner. Beer list was adequate and whiskey list impressive! Surprise of the afternoon was the frozen bushwacker which was dangerously delicious. We all tried guessing what booze was in there - rum? Vodka? Creme de cacao? Turns out we were all right - yes, yes, and yes. Lots of fun at Loretta's! Look for their line dancing nights, or catch some good ol' live music and get your honky tonk on. read more

This place is good for drinks, not food so much. I have eaten here several times, am never impressed and often regretting eating here. Most recently, I won a free brunch for 2 here. I called up and confirmed redeeming my free brunch. I had to stalk them via email, phone and Yelp to redeem my free brunch. I told our waitress about me redeeming a free brunch. We sat outside. I had a delicious cocktail. I got the chicken and waffles breakfast that came with eggs, bacon and home fries. My friend got the bacon avocado eggs Benedict breakfast. It was alright, nothing special and too heavy for me. Our bill comes and it does not reflect the one cocktail ( the free brunch does not alcohol) that's fine, I get it. In my eight years living in Boston, this is the only place I've ever been discriminated against for my race. I was here with some friends on a Saturday night and I went outside to give a friend her keys. Before I left I checked with the bartender to make sure I can come back in through the side door, who said it was fine with her. When I tried to come back in, a security guy literally grabbed me and threw me out. I tried to explain the situation, but the guy refused to listen. Two of my friends, both white and blonde, explained the situation and offered him $20 to let me in. He accepted their offer until he saw that it was me. All I can say is we all left pretty quickly afterwards and I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my life. Hopefully this was an isolated event and only the one bouncer is a racist asshole, but it was traumatizing enough for me to never want to return. I realize writing this on Yelp probably won't do much, but I hope this never happens to anyone ever again. read more

Good not great. They are new and trying to look more popular than they really are by keeping an unnecessary line all the time. They claim to be "at capacity" but you will sit there for 45 minutes without one person leaving and then the magically can fit 20 more people. I get how it works, "always keep a line" it's bar owning 101 but when you have an entire glass front window and people can see a ton of dead space in the bar it's not a great plan. The live band wasn't bad. They need to turn the volume down a bit though because you end up screaming in each others faces trying to talk or even ask, what do you want to drink? 2 of the people in our group lost their voices just trying to talk over the band. Other than that they played good tunes and I had no complaints about them. The bartender are on point and I saw no problem with them. They know their stuff and make some mean drinks. I think it was the GM or head of security who I talked with and he seemed like a good guy and knew what he was doing. The doormen are complete morons. One of them, I think it was his first night, was actually a nice kid. He was younger and wearing a red and black flannel jacket. He was courteous and professional, no issues with him. The other door(man) boy was such a smug prick and that it was painful to even watch him while I waited in line. He had that college drop out-turned doorman feel about him. Like he was only doing the job to feel some self worth in the world. Example: He tells the line he is at capacity, his higher up or maybe owner (Tall older guy, crew cut short hair) tells him to hold off letting people in for now, so that actually confirms what he says. I say not a problem we will continue to wait because we are meeting a large group. 2 minutes later the higher up guy walks away and this kid lets two wasted chicks in who should be hooked up to an IV rather than going into a bar. I figure maybe they are VIP or something special. Then I hear him say, "Hurry in so my boss doesn't see you". He then looks to the other doorman and says just loud enough for us waiting in line to hear, "Now we are two over capacity, Ha-HA". The other doorman, (flannel jacket kid) looked uncomfortable with that comment probably because he knew we all heard it and were now pissed. That was the straw that broke the camels back. It's one thing to hook your friends up, I get it that's life. It's another to be a blatant dick about it when people have been waiting 45 mins or more to get in to the bar by rubbing it in their faces. Overall I would say the bar has great potential once they weed out the problem children and fine tune the operation. Also $8 Fireball whiskey shots is a bit on the steep side. Southern Breakfast 2.0 This is a review for Loretta's amazing weekend brunch - I can't speak to their evening bar scene. As an ex military guy I'm always in search of that great southern breakfast I used to love so much but have been deprived of in Boston. My wait is over. Not only is Loretta's breakfast southern authentic but it's better than anything I remember. Their sausage gravy on a biscuit (aka sos) will make any transplanted southerner shed a tear (Goodbye Cracker Barrel). I'm all about the fundamentals and the eggs have been perfect 5/5. Never a grits fan, Loretta's has made me a believer with their hearty version infused with veggies, cheese, and ham. Teresa - our waitress on several visits - is not only a delightful person but is gifted with an amazing memory, recalling every detail of my party's previous week's order right down to the bottle of Tabasco . The entire staff has been welcoming on each visit. After going to Loretta's constantly since they opened, I had my first disappointing experience yesterday. The time started giving e, said it was a 20-30 minute wait for a table, no problem grabbed a drink from the bar. Within 15 minutes the table was ready, awesome. That's when the time took a turn. We sat down and watched sever after server pass our table or just stand at the service station chatting. It was busy yesterday, absolutely. Even with that considered someone could have at least acknowledged our table and say they'd be right back. So 28 minutes after being seated and not being waited on, let alone acknowledged we got up and left. I've gone plenty of times on Red Sox game days and never had such an experience. If we had at least been acknowledged, we would have waited, but I'm not going to sit there for almost a half hour and have no service at all. read more

Surprisingly enough, Boston has a HUGE market for country music, and (until now) has had absolutely NO country/western bars.. The standard nightlife in Boston ranges from lame to lamer, with each bar offering their spin on electronic dance music spun by some DJ, who prides himself on the occasional yuppie approaching him to discuss his newest turntable... You can sometimes find some pretty solid live music in the area, but they're mostly limited to playing top 40 music, and let's be honest, we country music lovers are sick of that... But now, Loretta's Last Call solves ALL of these problems! The inside looks like an old western bar, except it's clean & new.. The music is amazing... The food is all made and prepared in-house, and is 1 step away from mama's supper The staff is skilled and friendly. The management is personal and actually cares about their customers. Oh and did i mention that their Whiskey and MOONSHINE list is extensive! If i ever go back to the standard nightlife/bar-scene in boston, i am positive i'll be wishing i was at Loretta's. Do yourself a favor & check it out... Maybe you'll catch one of their LIVE COUNTRY MUSIC nights, and if you're lucky you'll happen to have your best pair of cowboy boots on, that are sure to make everyone on the dance floor jealous... Great country bar just outside of Fenway. Had an absolute blast with my friends, drinks were on the more expensive side ($5.50 for a corona if I remember correctly), but giving five stars because of Bo the bouncer. A little bit about Bo: Bo is one of the best bouncers I've ever run into. You'd think that on a thursday night, the bouncer would be tired or not very excited about working so late while watching hundreds of returning B.C. students return for the first time after being away for the summer. Most bouncers wouldn't care too much about a possible fake i.d. or enforcing the abstract drinking laws of Massachusetts. But not Bo When I first stepped out to smoke a cigarette, Bo was quick ask me how my night was. When he had a quick break from checking i.d.'s, he was quick to engage me in conversation. After learning that I was just visiting from out of town, Bo first made sure that I would be attending a Sox game, and then suggested multiple sights to see that only a local would likely know about. Combine all of this with his upbeat attitude that presented a vibe that he genuinely enjoyed his job, I would highly recommend this bar, just because of the bouncer. read more

My boyfriend and I went looking for La Verdad and realized that it was replaced by this Loretta's and it happened to be opening week. We decided to give it a shot and went in and ordered some apps. The menu was slightly confusing as it did not have many descriptions. We decided to be safe and ordered the wings and "nachos". The wings came and were great, they were spicy and sweet and pipping hot! The nachos, not so much. We were presented, literally, a small snack size bag of Fritos! It was cut open on the side, so I poured them out to find in addition to the Fritos in the bag, was what seemed like a spoonful of chili that came out of a can, one slice of jalapeno pepper, and THREE shreds of a cheese. I normally never send food back but this was just ridiculous. Good thing the wings were really good or else we probably would have walked out. The service was actually really good and they were very apologetic of the "nachos" and took them off our bill. We might go back after its been around for a few more months to see if our experience is any better. read more

I came here with my boyfriend and we ordered the Jalapeño, cheddar and bacon cornbread Benedict and the biscuits and eggs. (-) The home fries on both plates were two served to us burnt. The cornbread had great flavor but made the dish to heavy. The scrambled eggs I ordered were served as a cheese omelet, unsure if this was a mistake by the kitchen or the waitress. Regardless they were edible however very bland. The menu items sound better than what was actually delivered, so overall we were disappointed. Ending on a (+) note, the live music was cool and gave it a real southern feel. All staff were very friendly and the manager offered to replace the home fries. read more

Came here on a Friday night around 11, fell in love instantly. As a southern girl trapped in this big northeastern city, I felt Loretta's really captured the bar scene I am used to in Austin. They have a great selection of beers and hard alcohol, a lot of options that I usually only see back home (Deep Eddy!). Now that Massachusetts has Shiner Bock, I was happy to see it all over the bar. The live band played covers of all your favorite country songs and was awesome. The staff was super friendly (and good looking) and professional. Service at the bar was quick and they had a great attitude. I will definitely be coming back. This is the second time that I have gone to Loretta's for dinner and I can say that it does not fail to keep things interesting. Every night through the week there's some sort of activity going on, whether it's live music or line dancing. We had the corn cakes as an appetizer, which were decent but I think they were not quite what I expected as the texture was reminiscent of a crab cake. The star of the night for me were the shrimp and grits. As someone who loves to explore different flavors in food, this was definitely a tastebud explosion in the best possible way. I think that there is something for everyone here, particularly within the drinks list. I plan on returning in the near future! read more

I used to frequent Loretta's in my college days, and decided to swing by for a drink after a night at Fenway Park for old times sake! We got 2 seats at the end of the bar to catch the end of the game, and the atmosphere, drinks (my old favorite, Front Porch Sweet Tea), and service were all excellent. Our bartender, Kris, was kind and attentive! At one point, there was a very rude, disgruntled woman who lashed out and called her a c*** for no clear reason whatsoever, and she handled the situation beautifully, with a level of grace I would've never been able to achieve! It takes a special kind of person to deal with that type of difficult situation, and Kris has what it takes- she was mature, respectful, and classy. As along as she is working at Loretta's, I'll be coming in for my Front Porch Sweet Tea! 10/10 recommend Loretta's Last Call and Kris!! read more

Hot. Chicken. two words that really are all that needs to be said concerning Loretta's Last Call. oh also: Live. Country. Another two words that describe Loretta's perfectly. The hot chicken comes with white bread, that pretty much soaks up all the fat and sauce from the chicken as it sits on your plate. It comes with coleslaw but you can change that up for fried pickles, beans, or any other side they offer tat Loretta's. I opted for the slaw since the tangy mayonnaise helped cut through the heat of the chicken. And the chicken has some heat to it! It didn't peel my face off or anything but there is a kick to it that can scare most. Definitely worth it though. so worth the pain. read more

Holy Brunch. Went to Loretta's this past weekend for a pre-sox game brunch, and it was absolutely amazing. Seeing the bloody mary bar being set up made my heart melt. For $9, you can make your own bloody with vodka or moonshine and they have more than a dozen toppings - cheese, pepperoni, peppers, spicy green beans (!!), olives and more. My bloody was more like a meal, and absolutely delicious. Their other moonshine cocktails are also great. And the food, wow. Portions are huge and prices are reasonable. Cornbread benedict was awesome, as was my boyfriend's pulled pork frittata. And the fried pickles and jalapenos - yum! Our friends had the mac & cheese and the breakfast plate and were raving about both. I can't speak for the bar scence here, but we can't wait to go back for brunch! read more

As much as I love Ken Oringer's restaurants, when I heard that a country bar replaced La Verdad, i wasn't upset in the slightest. As someone who's a fan of Toby Keiths (but not the 30 minute drive out there), the thought of a country bar in our backyard is just what we need. Some friends and I tried to go after ZBB a couple weeks ago but the line was out the door so we opted to return on a Thursday night and it didn't disappoint. Since it was still nice out, we grabbed a drink and a couple apps on the patio. One of my friends got the BBQ wings and while they looked good, they were just okay. I think it was a matter of personal preference and I didn't care for the BBQ glaze. I split the pimento grilled cheese bites and they were delicious. It's a small order (it is an app), with four slices but between two girls it was fine. I also got the Cherry Punch with moonshine and it was delicious. Afterwards, we went inside for another drink and then ended up staying for the band that went on. There are good prices for the drinks and this one of the few bars in the area that serves Lone Star (at least that I have seen) so that was a cool touch. There was a good crowd for a Thursday but this could in part be due to the fact there was a 4:05 Sox game and people filtered in afterwards. I would caution people not to expect to be transported to Texas or Nashville, but it's the closest thing we have and it's pretty damn fun. Definitely check it out! read more

If you're into country music, a predominantly white, anglo-saxon crowd and some fried food, then this is the place for you! I have never seen so many plaid, flannel shirts in my life. In my opinion they are trying a bit too hard in all the wrong ways. We had reserved a table for a party of 12 online a week in advance. It was a double birthday celebration for two of our friends. Let's get to the service: The food was alright. Definitely "Southern" style, but I've had better. Our waitress was really nice and attentive also. As far as the ambience, it was really loud and hard to hear anyone talk. The most enraging part of our experience came at the end. Before our party had even gotten the bill, they were removing our tables and chairs and putting our stuff on the floor. The guys moving our tables out from over us were really rude also. No apologies, no explanations, just "I'm taking this table and I'm putting this stuff on the floor." One of our friends had a broken foot and was using a cane but they took her chair anyway and said she could sit next to the bathrooms. We were told their license only allows them to have tables out until 10PM. Even as they told us this, they seated a 7-top at a large table 10 feet away. The hostess came over and apologized and said we'd get 20% off our bill. Well, my bill certainly did not reflect that and it turned out it was "too late" to take the 20% off. Well it only took a whopping 45 minutes for them to bring us the bill, so I guess that's acceptable?
