Hired this company as part of a state home modification so unfortunately could not fire them part…read moreway through. $22,000 for ceiling removal with asbestos abatement, sound dampening and a new soffit. It was weeks of trying to avoid doing contractual work, add fees, calling me names, hanging up the phone on me before the first crew finally walked off of the job in front of the company owner. No apology provided to me, but after significant negotiation they did agree to hire a subcontractor to fix their work. Unfortunately this meant that they sanded their texture work and did not seal the ductwork first and refused to put up plastic in the doorway. I had to put up plastic and then spent 30 hours cleaning my home once I figured out what the air quality issue was. I have a disability and am prone to respiratory infections which is what I was diagnosed with following this event. The new crew told me that the soffit the previous crew built was too crooked to fix but I wouldn't notice it. They decided that they completed the project and the problem was the ductwork underneath the soffit. They want thousands more to replace my ductwork and build a new soffit. I cannot find their electrical license online although they did electrical work. The light fixture they installed will not turn off and they will not hire an electrician to fix their work. This was supposed to be a home modification project to help my disabled son--a fact that they have had no regard for throughout the project.

Two days later I had a detailed bid that included some of the options I had asked them to consider (I asked if a specific modification would work for my layout). I told them I had to wait for a specific event and would get back to them in 4-6 weeks. They checked in a couple of times during that wait but only in a friendly, non-pushing way. By the time I had the funds, I needed some additional clarification about items on the bid. Called them and they came back out and walked through with me answering all of my questions. I put half down to get on their schedule (2 weeks out). They made a confirmation call. Showed up right on time. Were very hard workers for two solid days. I was working from home and checked on the progress. They had scheduled the city inspector for late the afternoon of the second day and they were finished on time for that successful inspection. They explained how to reset the automatic gas shut-off if needed. They did a great job of cleaning up. I had put up tarps but they added some drop clothes and carried away all the debris. There was some dust from the sheetrock they had to remove but not much at all. It was a great experience. We have a lot of our net worth in this house and it feels better to know this 1925 home is bolted to the foundation, has the beams strapped to the posts, has additional hot water tank bracing, and has an automatic gas shut-off that I can reset as needed without having to wait (with potentially thousands of others) for the gas company to turn back on the gas. We had several different earthquake retrofit companies come out to give us quotes, and earthquake…read moretech gave us the best solution. The other firms recommended approaching from the inside which would require demo-ing into our finished basement walls and likely leave unsightly brackets poking out in different places. Earthquake tech recommended a solution approaching from the outside - taking down siding to place brackets and reinforce the cripple wall, then replacing the siding. We have cedar shake siding and I was concerned there would be a lot of damage, but they seemed experienced with siding work. They consulted with an engineer on the plans, which not all the firms did, and helped give us peace of mind that the planned additions will offer the necessary support as we live on a pretty steep slope. The crew came out as scheduled and were able to do the bulk of the work over the first two days. Some of the finishing work took a little longer due to weather, which was okay as the crew was pretty independent on doing the work while we were gone and only occasionally needed access to the inside of the house. The company even ordered new siding to replace the broken ones and repainted them once the weather dried out some, which we were expecting to have to do ourselves. The house looks great after they were all done, and if we hadn't seen the bracketing inside before the new siding went up, we'd have no idea anything was done. We had no problems getting earthquake coverage added onto our policy. The whole process was very smooth, and the end product is exactly as promised.

He said his kids had removed it over the weekend. I offered my 36‑foot ladder so he could take a look. He leaned it against my gutter, which began to bend as he climbed, so I stopped him to prevent further damage. He said he would return the next day with a technician and proper equipment to fix the gutter and inspect the skylight. He never showed up. When I called the office, I was told he would call me back, which never happened. Overall, this was an unprofessional experience, and I would not recommend this company.

Within months of them having done this the roof started leaking around the chimney and, it was noted by a contractor doing a different project on my house, that the roofers had lifted the electric roof fan, disrupting the power but did not cap the live wires. When I called Stalcup about these concerns they sent 2 guys out to tar around the chimney and completely remove the fan (a decision not discussed with me) and patch the roof. More recently, in prep to put my house up for sale a pre-inspection check revealed the roof is prematurely at end of life. I called Stalcup to request that they honor the warrantee but they declined to do this instead, they sent a salesman to offer me a bid on a 50 year warrantee roof! There are too many reputable companies out there, do not risk your roof with Stalcup.

This contractor performed a roof inspection and provided a proposal for roof maintenance work, moss and mold mitigation work, and roof-related upgrades at the request of a buyer under contract on the sale of our house. The portions of the contractor's proposal that were agreed upon for the house-sale contract included just the maintenance and mitigation work for a total three-page list of fairly detailed items. Contractor spent approximately one hour at the house and charged more than $1000. When asked for verbal or email verification that all work from the three-page proposal was completed despite the brief time at the house, the contractor did not respond to phone calls or accept voicemails. He responded to email but did not address this question. He was paid through escrow on the closing of our sale and provided an abbreviated proposal to the title company for payment. I would strongly recommend checking references and verifying work with an in-person walkthrough before and after if you consider using this business.
