I had a great experience and hope to give you enough detail to be helpful in your analysis. had this group out for a bid and they did a walk around and entered the crawlspace and said they'd get me an estimate in a few days later. Two days later I had a detailed bid that included some of the options I had asked them to consider (I asked if a specific modification would work for my layout). I told them I had to wait for a specific event and would get back to them in 4-6 weeks. They checked in a couple of times during that wait but only in a friendly, non-pushing way. By the time I had the funds, I needed some additional clarification about items on the bid. Called them and they came back out and walked through with me answering all of my questions. I put half down to get on their schedule (2 weeks out). They made a confirmation call. Showed up right on time. Were very hard workers for two solid days. I was working from home and checked on the progress. They had scheduled the city inspector for late the afternoon of the second day and they were finished on time for that successful inspection. They explained how to reset the automatic gas shut-off if needed. They did a great job of cleaning up. I had put up tarps but they added some drop clothes and carried away all the debris. There was some dust from the sheetrock they had to remove but not much at all. It was a great experience. We have a lot of our net worth in this house and it feels better to know this 1925 home is bolted to the foundation, has the beams strapped to the posts, has additional hot water tank bracing, and has an automatic gas shut-off that I can reset as needed without having to wait (with potentially thousands of others) for the gas company to turn back on the gas. We had several different earthquake retrofit companies come out to give us quotes, and earthquake tech gave us the best solution. The other firms recommended approaching from the inside which would require demo-ing into our finished basement walls and likely leave unsightly brackets poking out in different places. Earthquake tech recommended a solution approaching from the outside - taking down siding to place brackets and reinforce the cripple wall, then replacing the siding. We have cedar shake siding and I was concerned there would be a lot of damage, but they seemed experienced with siding work. They consulted with an engineer on the plans, which not all the firms did, and helped give us peace of mind that the planned additions will offer the necessary support as we live on a pretty steep slope. The crew came out as scheduled and were able to do the bulk of the work over the first two days. Some of the finishing work took a little longer due to weather, which was okay as the crew was pretty independent on doing the work while we were gone and only occasionally needed access to the inside of the house. The company even ordered new siding to replace the broken ones and repainted them once the weather dried out some, which we were expecting to have to do ourselves. The house looks great after they were all done, and if we hadn't seen the bracketing inside before the new siding went up, we'd have no idea anything was done. We had no problems getting earthquake coverage added onto our policy. The whole process was very smooth, and the end product is exactly as promised. read more

Had a rough/unprofessional experience with these guys, and ultimately decided to go with Oregon Seismic - and I couldn't have been happier with the other company. It took Earthquake Seismic over a month to come out for my initial consultation, and then after waiting a month, they tried to reschedule that consultation day-off. When I finally got the estimate from them, it was nearly $2,000 higher than what I ultimately ended up paying. I found Oregon Seismic so professional, friendly and easy to work with; things were completed at a super reasonable price within 3 weeks of my initial call. After so many difficult contractor experiences, I recognize how important it is to work with reliable people you can trust, which is why I would did not feel comfortable going forward with Earthquake Tech. read more

Earthquake Tech was easy to deal with, reliable, and competitively priced. We solicited bids from three reputable companies. After meeting with all three, we were leaning towards Earthquake Tech because the staff was extremely knowledgeable. When the bid amounts arrived, Earthquake Tech and another company where about the same; around $4,000. Another company was closer to $5,000. After selecting Earthquake Tech, all interactions with them, both over the phone and email, where quick and easy. Due to a minor concern with our old house, they did have to leave some plaster to dry, and come back a few days later to finish that up. That was not an inconvenience to us, and Earthquake Tech was quite accommodating to our schedule. The workers were always on time, and professional. For a comparison, our house is a 1938 build, with the main level at 1150 square feet. The house had to be mounted to the concrete foundation. One of the basement corners is now a bathroom, and is inaccessible to Earthquake Tech, without lots of cutting and expense. Therefore, that corner was bracketed on the outside of the house. While the brackets are technically visible, they are not noticeable at all. read more

The whole process of the seismic retrofitting of our 1909 house was very pleasant and quick. From getting an estimate, to having a test drill done( to make sure our large aggregate foundation is viable), to having the actual work done was around 3 weeks or less. They have a great team working seamlessly and supremely well organized. Everybody was friendly, responsive, competent: Jeff, in the office; Taylor, the head estimator and main contact person; Antonio and his hard working crew; Nicolas, a supervisor who also installed the shut-off valve. After dealing with some terrible contractors in this town, what a freakin' delight to work with the amazing team at Earthquake Tech. We worked with Taylor as our point person. He was charming, intelligent, knew his shit about earthquakes, and answered my numerous questions with aplomb. As other reviewers mentioned, it did take a surprisingly long time to get the quote, but once we did, it was a quick process to get on the schedule. The quote was a good bit higher than a competitors, which we discussed with Taylor. He explained that Earthquake tech gives 401k and health benefits to their employees, hence the higher expense. I agreed with that and their experience of 23 years, so went with them. They squeezed us in in two weeks (after other competitors quoted 6-8) and did a great job. They discussed an unforeseen complication with our foundation and dealt with it. When they were done, you'd never have known they were there. To close out, Taylor came back to the house with permit, paperwork and invoice, which I thought was dramatically classier than a bill in the mail. All in all, a superb experience. read more

I can't review this company on their work, although I wish I could. However, I can review this company on how they have totally blown me off and don't return phone calls or email. I had Earthquake Tech come give me an estimate during the summer of 2015 for a seismic retrofit of our house; everything went well. Because of money going other places at the time we had to wait until summer of 2016 to move forward with the work. I called to have them come out again to update the estimate and review the work that would be done. I thought everything was fine. The employee (Taylor) said he needed to talk to his engineer about something but would send me an updated estimate in a week or so. I waited for three weeks and didn't hear anything. I called the company to inquire and was told that they would have Taylor call me back asap. Well, that was about 3 months ago and I still haven't heard back. Interestingly, I still get promotional emails from this company. A week ago I replied to one of them, as the email address was from the owner/general manager (not sure which). I explained my story and again have heard nothing. No explanation, no apology, nothing, nada. I can't remember ever being blown off by a company like this before. read more
