We stopped here for breakfast during our layover in New York. We were really wanting a fresh new york bagel, but Lord's bagels didn't really meet those standards. The bagels weren't made fresh, so if you are ok with a reheated bagel, then this place would be great for you! The bagels were light and airy, in true new york bagel fashion, but it just didn't have as good of a chew as I would have liked. The bagel could have been salted and flavored more as well. (I got a blueberry bagel and could not taste the blueberry at all). Overall, quaint little bagel shop in Newark that's ideal for a quick breakfast on the go, but I probably wouldn't come back. Service also took a hot second.

The perfect amount of cream cheese. The bacon egg and cheese was to die for. This is everyone you are looking for in a bagel. So delicious I will definitely be back.

After an early morning drop off at Newark, I looked on Yelp to find some breakfast. We found Lord's Bagels on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The bagel shop is very cute. They have an expansive menu beyond just bagels - omelettes, pancakes, etc. they also have tables where you can order a the counter and choose to dine in, which we did. I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with scallion cream cheese (my favorite combo) and my husband ordered SEC on everything. The bagels are fresh, tasty, and baked with cornmeal. The bagels are softer, not dense or chewy with a light crust. My husband prefers this type of bagel, but I'm more of a dense, chewy, crispy bagel kind of person. Probably the best place to get bagels in the area and definitely loved by locals.

My friends and I came here to grab some bagels Saturday morning and I was super happy to finally try this new spot! I got an egg everything bagel with pork roll, egg, and cheese and cheddar jalapeño cream cheese. The bagels were nice and think and crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. I love that they're homemade and hand rolled. They have some pastries in the display and a nice coffee/latte menu. I definitely am going to be working this into my morning routine!

small quaint cafe with friendly folks with smiles behind the counter to take your order and bring it to the table if you were to choose to sit indoors to enjoy it. I had a toasted everything bagel with veggie cream cheese, my husband had a veggie omelet and of course our morning coffee. The cafe was just the right thing for us that Saturday morning before starting our errands! Love small local cafes like these. So very best wishes to these folks!

So far, upon entry a very clean and well lit area and personnel were very nice. Ordered a toasted sesame bagel with jalapeño cream cheese and a s ode of home fries. Everything was cooked fresh and right in front of you so I can see a little wait if this spot is busy. And by the looks of the area and lack of any other bagel shops I'd say they get busy. Service was great. They brought my order to me as I say. Finally ate my food and it was very good. Very good. Good portions as well. Leaves you full. I'd make it a point to come back.

A member of my team had ordered bagels so we decided to stop in for lunch. Sandwiches on bagels, bread and wraps all well prepared. No complaints but nothing so special I'd go out of my way to eat there again. The place is owned and operated by Christian people and there are Bible verses posted around the dining area. If you have a desire to support fellow believers then it's worth the stop.

The staff here is absolutely lovely! Bagels and breakfast here are top notch. The place is very clean and cozy and prizes are fair for the area. When you come, definitely try the cheese balls and any of the pastries as well.

STARBUCKS WHO?! The Best Bagel Spot You Are Entirely Ignoring in the "Forgotten Borough."…read more Let's be honest for a second. We live in Staten Island. We know good food, but we also get set in our ways. We walk the same blocks, we drive the same avenues, and we mindlessly queue up in corporate drive-thrus for burnt espresso (or food) because it's "convenient." Well, I am here to officially staging an intervention. Two weeks ago, I was walking past the Dollar General, completely blind to my surroundings, zombie-walking my way back toward Starbucks. That is when I saw the sign for Poppy Seed Bagels. After a local native whispered absolute prophecies into my ear about a mythical "French Toast Bagel with Cannoli Cream Cheese," I knew I had to make the pilgrimage. I have lived here for almost a year. Why did none of you tell me about this place? Seriously, I need answers. Are we hoarding the carb secrets now?? Like c'mon, f'real???? lol The Vibe: Small Footprint, Massive Inventory. When you first walk in, the shop presents itself on a smaller scale, but every square inch serves a distinct, glorious purpose. To your left, an absolute wall of refrigerators spans the room. They have every liquid refreshment known to mankind: cold brews, espressos, energy drinks, sodas, and teas. If you can drink it, they have it chilled. The Ultimate Coffee Loophole As a "self-proclaimed" coffee fanatic, this is where I nearly lost my mind. You pay for a coffee. Just a coffee. And then? You pick whatever size you want. Let me repeat that for the people in the back. You pay one flat rate and you can walk away with a large. (like whaaaat?) We are strictly not talking Starbucks vibes here, nope--no siree. Then you hit the mixing station. I am a French Vanilla creamer devotee, and they had an entire lineup of premium flavored creamers, flavored shots (hazelnut, etc.), and a shaker of freshly ground cinnamon powder. *YUP* Shaking real cinnamon into a piping hot, perfectly brewed coffee felt less like a morning routine and more like a religious experience. Was I awake? Was I dreaming? Was I in coffee heaven? It felt way too magical to be in the "Forgotten Borough." The Main Event: The "Perfect Bagel" Look, I went in with one mission: get the French Toast bagel. Naturally, because the universe loves a plot twist, they were fresh out. The neighborhood hype is real, and the early birds caught the worm. Undeterred, I pivoted. I ordered a perfectly toasted sesame bagel slapped with that famous cannoli cream cheese. I snapped a picture, texted it to a friend, and captioned it: "The perfect bagel." Mind you, this wasn't even the French Toast flavor I came for! If a backup option can elicit that level of emotional texting, that alone speaks volumes. The bagel had that flawless crunch on the outside, a soft, pillowy pull on the inside, and the cannoli cream cheese--an absolute, pure, unadulterated delight. Sweet, creamy, and decadent. So delicious. While sitting there in a literal cloud of French vanilla, cinnamon, and sesame bliss, I watched the digital menu monitors loop videos of their special custom creations. Lox bagels, hot pastrami builds, and wild culinary concoctions that had me salivating mid-chew. I am already scheduling my next trip back specifically for the French Toast and, yeah, maybe the pastrami too. Why, not! Hospitality That Hits Different: A restaurant can have great food, but small businesses win our/my heart. The staff here is exceptional. The girls at the counter were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Furthermore, a tall gentleman who was busily cleaning the tables noticed that I have some trouble walking. Without me even asking, he took it upon himself to go up to the counter, grab my food, and bring it directly to my table. There are only a few tables inside, but that simple, proactive act of kindness transformed a quick breakfast into a memorable dining experience. The Verdict: Whenever I am in the area again and have to choose between corporate green-apron coffee or this local masterpiece? Ahem--excuse me---Starbucks who? This will now be my go to spot. I am a massive supporter of small businesses, and Poppy Seed Bagels is doing everything right. Hello---stop gatekeeping this place! People just got to know! :-) So... Go... Go support them, buy a giant coffee for the price of a small, and pray they have the French Toast bagel waiting for you---if that's your thing or not. ;-)
