Average bagel shop with expensive prices. I wanted a change from dunkin coffee so I tried this place. I got a bagel with cream cheese and a small coffee for over $10. I've been coming here regularly for the past few months because the bagels are genuinely great. I come often enough that the staff usually recognize me and know I'm getting a single plain bagel when I walk in. I've also never had an issue paying the additional charge for using a card on such a small purchase. Today, the restaurant was very busy and there had just been an unpleasant confrontation between another customer and the staff. When it was my turn, an older gentleman behind the counter found my bagel, then waved me away without even looking at me and told me he wasn't selling me one bagel. If there's a minimum purchase requirement, that's completely fine. Tell me that and I'll either buy more or leave. What bothered me was being dismissed and waved away like I was a nuisance, particularly after being a consistent customer for months. I understand the staff had just dealt with a difficult customer, but I had nothing to do with that interaction and didn't deserve to be treated as though I did. One of if not the most enjoyable Everything w/Lox I've had in the last few years living in New York City! First the bagel itself is large but not too airy-still dense enough. The flavor is great. You can tell they ARE freshly made as advertised. The everything seasoning hits the perfect balance of poppy, sesame, and rock salt...just maybe needs a little more. Lox is fresh, they do not skimp, and again perfect balance of tomato, onion, capers, smoked salmon and cream cheese. And all that for about half the price of Manhattan. I've been here three times. All three times for the sea salt bagel. The first time was very early in the morning. The bagel was soft, fresh and not too salty with way too much cream cheese. The third time, the bagel was soft, fresh and way too salty with not nearly enough cream cheese. See the pattern here? You shouldn't. This is one of the only bagel places in Newark and as a fan of a good bagel with lox and cream cheese and really hoped I would like it. I've tried the onion and garlic bagels and the scallion and lox spreads. Its definitely not a bad bagel; the inside is chewy and dense just like it should be, but its just not that good flavor wise. Same thing with the cream cheese. Nothing to write home about. The cafe itself is nice, clean and spacious and the service is really good as well, unfortunately, the food isn't. read more

The owner/manager has NO RESPECT FOR HIS CUSTOMERS. When his cook is handling food with the same gloves. He is touching pork, beef, Turkey, cheese. Bread all with the same gloves. He told Me that the manager/owner told him not to change gloves, that is not sanitary, or proper way of handling food. Their bagels are very good but this one day I came in a got a platter with egss,cheese, sausage and pancakes the cook split my cheese in half so one side only cheese on the right side then tried to charge me 50 cents for the other half. I spoke with the manager who offered me a discount for the next time I come in but I don't live in the area so I declined. I asked for my eggs to be cooked right and he said he would then went to the back. I waited and waited until my food was gone and I still had not gotten my eggs. I asked the cashier for the manager and when she went to the back and came back and she said he's not here he left so for that reason I give a 1 star for being so unprofessional and I will make a complaint to the owner and send him a pic of my food. read more

There seems to be a serious shortage of legit bagel places and places that deliver in Newark, NJ. So when I initially heard of Simply Bagels, my relationship with them was pretty narrow - they delivered breakfast sandwich and Snapple to my apt so I could eat it when hungover and go back to sleep. When I started using a (great!) dry cleaner next door to Simply Bagels I went into their store and tried other foods from the menu. They have bagels as well as sandwiches, salads, pasta, etc., I can attest to the fact that this place sells actual NJ style bagels and its tasty! Their spreads are tasty, I've tried a number of their panini and the American panini is my favorite - I'd highly recommend it. The staff is friendly enough and the prices are pretty low. Warning: Delivery seems to be a problem, they deliver and quickly, but often they have forgotten or mixed up part of my order. read more

I had to pick up our payday bagels and unfortunately forgot to pre-order. Thank goodness they were so accommodating I called at 6:50am and was told that they would be able to make over 100 bagels for me and would be ready in 50 minutes. Such a lifesaver and when I brought them in I received calls all day from co-workers telling me how good they were. Definitely will go back. This place is horrible, waited 20 minutes for two bagels with cream cheese, had to ask me 3 times what I wanted. Bagel was horrible, wasn't even toasted, and I wasn't the only one with a messed up order. A sign says we cook beef on a seperate grill but only one grill was visible, used the same cutting board and knife for everything. Bagel tasted like a sausage patty I guess they don't clean their knives. To top it all off the guy couldn't even wrap up the bagels properly.
