Had high hopes going in, but sadly massage was not at all what I expected. It felt like the masseuse was repeating one single movement over and over, and did not feel like any of the other professional massages I have gotten over the years. They didn't really talk at all or ask any questions, to the point that it was awkward. Even though I mentioned that my back was bothering me and pointed to some trouble areas, did not follow up or pay any particular attention to trouble areas. Can I rate 10 stars? I absolutely love Domo; her spirit is so warm and inviting! I received a 60 minute Deep Tissue massage and it was literally 60 minutes of heaven. She was able to workout all of my knots leaving me loosened up for sure lol Her small hands, work big miracles; she also is a stretch guru. Just went to get a pre-natal massage last week with Dominique and it was awesome! I've never had one so i wasn't sure what to expect but it was a great experience. I'm 20 weeks right now and it was just what I needed. The location was a bit tricky to find, and parking can be equally tricky. It's on that Grove St. stripso good luck if you're driving, but theres a metered parking lot in the back that is worth checking for spots. If it's not open, you just have to find street parking so get there early. It's in the same office as Sw3at Sauna studio, but from the street neither are very obviously marked. It's an unassuming door in between Palace liquor store and Bonchon Chicken. Once you find the place though, it's amazing. Dominique was sweet, great customer service and the massage was great! The room was dark and peaceful and you have your choice of a few different scents for massage oils. I'll definitely go back again! read more

I really enjoyed my first experience yesterday! I can appreciate how much effort it takes to give a good massage (I do it as well as an esthetician) so I can tell when someone really knows what they are doing and is putting in a good effort vs just going through the moves. Dominique was fantastic. I chose this place because of the reviews, walking convenience and because the pics looked really cool - as someone else said more of an art studio with paintings and exposed brick. I was a little confused in how to get up there as it is in the same building as psychic readings but hit the buzzer to have the door unlocked; it has the same front door but separate entrance into the area. I would note if you struggle with stairs I am not sure there is another option. All that was upstairs was greatness! The space is really cute. The area for the massage is the perfect size. The music was an euphoric electronic vs spa music and there was a slight incense smell. I love unique things, so I really appreciated the different experience! The massage was the perfect amount of relaxing plus getting into those knots. The rhythm was nice, she answered questions when I had them and talking was minimal yet appropriate when needed so I knew what was happening. At my request she also stretched me a bit. What put it over the top for me was that she actually demonstrated on a foam roller how I could stretch or do some things. To me, this is top notch service and someone who knows what they are doing but also cares. Payment: you do have to pay for the service via credit card prior to when you book online, to hold your spot but the massage was great so I wouldn't be deterred on that. However, bring cash for tip because there is no check out afterwards. I was thankful I had cash for once! Great place, well deserved 5 stars. Cant wait to go back. read more

I'm really happy I found Loosen Up and met Dominique! She was so professional and really listened to me, focusing on the areas that I communicated were giving me trouble during the massage and identified a few other tight spots that I wasn't fully aware of. The space is clean but cozy and home-like which immediately made me feel at ease. Fantastic experience from start to finish. Dom is great at what she does. The massage was great and I didn't want it to end after 60min! Will definitely be going for a 90min next time! Also, very comfortable environment. Most massage studios in DTCJ are a bit musty and unkempt, but Loosen Up stands out very much in that regard. Where do I begin?! The first thing I will say is thank God Loosen Up popped up in Jersey City and I'm just so happy that found it just in time for my birthday weekend of relaxation! I have been on the lookout for an outstanding massage place since I moved to Jersey City 5 years ago. I went to many around the area, but none really were up to my liking until Loosen Up. What I loved?: - Dominique was very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable; when I asked her to go medium/hard for pressure she did so, many places don't go hard enough even when I ask; she also used the textbook technical terms for areas that needed more work (this was after the massage) - she was professional, knew what she was talking about and seemed like she really loves what she is doing. - At the end Dominique gave great feedback about what was tight and how I can work on those areas including stretching - The massage table was the most comfortable table I have ever been on. Usually when I am faced down my throat gets pushed in by the head rest (even when adjusted), but this one was just perfect. - The location was easy to get to, with parking nearby. - The massaging area was quaint and comfortable. - I also loved Dominique's choice of music. It was your typical new agey music. - Love the name - Oh and of course, the main thing: The massage!....it was incredible. I have been training with kettlebells pretty regularly and not foam rolling or stretching like I should so I have felt very stiff and uncomfortable for quite some time now. So since it's my bday weekend I decided I'd treat myself to a massage to get this stiffness out and boy she did!!! I feel great and I don't feel so awful anymore. What I didn't love?: If I have to say something I just didn't like that when booking online I had to pay immediately. It would have been better for me if I could have put a deposit on the booking instead of paying up front. Top Notch! You really could not ask for a better massage. The space was right downtown and had a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It was more like an art or fitness studio than your typical dimly lit spa. Dominique was super friendly and professional. She offered me a glass of water within the first 30 seconds I was there which is thought was a nice touch. Once in the massage room I did my usual check for cleanliness and had zero complaints. It really was spotless. The massage itself was fantastic. I opted for the sports massage and I am really glad I did. It was honestly one of the best massages I have ever had. Afterwards she gave me some good tips for working out my soreness at home as well as giving me a therapeutic tennis ball for rolling out knots.
