Despite living in Hoboken for nearly two decades, this was my first visit to Moonlight Spa. I've…read moregotten massages at several other places in the square mile, but none were ever quite this affordable. Moonlight is a no-frills establishment. They don't have you fill out a health questionnaire when you arrive. There's no choice of scented oils or aromatherapy in the room. It's not fancy or especially inviting inside. The sheets and blankets on the massage tables are worn. They move very fast to get you in and out. That being said, my $55 hour massage was great , much better than the $200 massage I got at SoJo last year. I was able to make an appointment for myself and my husband a day prior - it was a weekday, so I figured they'd have availability. I wasn't expecting them to have a room for couples, but when we arrived, they brought us right to a room with dual massage tables. We were a little early, so they got started with us early - very efficient. The hot stones felt great on my back. The reason I'm knocking them a star is the noise level. We heard a lot of background noise: the spa's phone ringing, employees talking and moving about. They did have relaxing music playing in the room, but it didn't completely tune out the noise outside the curtain. It didn't take away from my massage experience, though. My expectations for this establishment were met. If you just want to feel good without breaking the bank and are OK without all the pomp and circumstance, this is your place.

I have always gone to Moonlight, because I pass by them daily and they are good value. I recall…read morewhen I was told that they had a second spot nearby, Alley Spa, opening up. This afternoon I popped into Moonlight and inquired if they had any availability from 5 pm on. I was told they were fully booked. On a whim, I called Alley Spa, despite surmising that, as they are run by the same people, they too were included in the "fully booked" equation. Nope, I called at 5:30 pm and got a 6:15 appt. Alley Spa is adorable. My room had a mantle for my smaller belongings, with cute decorations, and it seemed so welcoming. The whole spa seemed more relaxed than Moonlight, and the woman working the desk opined that they were slow. I asked her why the woman at Moonlight didn't refer me to them, since it's the same owner? She seemed confused too. Next time I'll skip Moonlight and go to Alley Spa. It seemed less of an assembly line, and I appreciated the decorative touches.

The owner was surprisingly not there, but everyone deserves time off (hoping the didn't sell, however). My massage therapist was extremely rough and a bit messy. She banged into something and clearly got hurt. She insisted she was fine, however left the room and someone else continued massaging me without any explanation. I later realized this to be the front desk person! She continued to talk to whoever was now covering the desk for her. This was extremely loud and rude! Then she leaves and yet a third person comes to finish my massage. Again, no explanation or apologies! I always tip generous but gave so much less considering this bad experience. I was not pleasant at all on the way out. Hope they got the hint and that this doesn't happen again.

As mentioned in other reviews, it's helpful to know that at least one treatment space is divided by a curtain rather than a full wall. It's not very spa like here, nothing tranquil, but more so like a nail salon layout. The massage was good but the two ladies continuously spoke to each other, which was a little annoying. The person doing massage for the first 20 mins just massaged me with the towel no oil or cream (weird) 2. My personal opinion, if you don't do anything above and beyond your job then I have nothing extra. Especially when you don't seem like you want to even be there or doing the massage. 4. There was no soothing calm music in the actual massage room 5. I could hear everything in the rooms next door which made it less relaxing 6. But then it dawned on me that I remembered seeing a foot massage spot just a few doors down and decided that might be the perfect way to end my day! I walked in around 8pm without and appointment and luckily they were able to take me immediately. The seating for a foot massage is in an open area with soft, plush leather seats that are so easy to sink into. Once seated, they'll wash your feet and then begin the massage. I booked a foot reflexology massage for 60 mins. It was $45 and was absolutely amazing! Considering how expensive things are these days, I thought that was overall a great deal! The folks that work here are so nice and I was so insanely relaxed and at ease here. Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Recommending Renewing Spa to everyone !!…read more I had things to do in Midtown NYC so that I thought it would be nice to have great massage, picked this place through Yelp with many outstanding 5 star reviews and so glad I came. It's too bad I live in Boston. I appreciate Renewing Spa and all reviewers. I walked into this place without appointment, buzzed me in up to 2nd floor. Immediately 2 staffs welcomed me very warmly, great sign of natural accommodation. I felt very comfortable right away. I have been to uncountable massage parlors for over the 30 years but this was the most homey trust feeling I got. They are very down to the Earth, helped me for charging 2 phones before the massage. They sent me Mia. Actually we never spoke any words. Her hands and elbows goes straight to the acupressure points, literally head to toes with exact right amount of pressure. She is very hard working. I didn't have to request anything. I realized her way is real treatment. It's my favorite style, next day I had slight soreness in the morning and later on the day I felt amazing whole body. She gave me most effective techniques and got rid of all of my problems. Unbelievable talent. After massage, staffs told me there is grand master teacher taught all workers in their all (4?) branches. This is treasure old school Chinese system, it reminds me martial art tradition. We are lucky to have this in USA, we need to support this forever. Did I mention great rate and points card for free treatment ? 謝謝 !!
