Pretty empty around lunchtime and super quick service! The server speaks limited english but it was no problem for ordering. Also very reasonably priced dishes! We ordered: - eggplant with green peppers: make sure to add the preserved egg, this was amazing. A little on the oily side but so creamy!! Definitely recommend this dish - pork with green peppers: this was a bit salty for our taste but the green peppers go really well with the pork The servers were also eating lunch in the restaurant but they still are very attentive to serving without asking!

Since she was Chinese, I wanted to help a fellow compatriot and agreed. However, after I finished eating, her attitude suddenly changed. She rushed over impatiently, urging me to write the review immediately in a very rude tone, which made me extremely uncomfortable. I originally wanted to support the restaurant, but this tactic of offering a "sweetener" first and then pressuring me with a harsh attitude left me very upset. I felt my kindness was being taken advantage of. I hope the restaurant can reflect on its service approach and treat customers sincerely, rather than focusing only on good reviews and discounts.

Very cute local family-owned Chinese restaurant, I recommend giving it a try! Came here on a random Sunday afternoon with my mom after running errands closeby. The restaurant was not ever busy, and the service was very quick. We ordered the braised pork and the claypot eggplant. The food was packed with flavor; I recommend ordering a side of rice with all the dishes, without rice, the food is on the salty side. My mom absolutely enjoyed the eggplant (but I must warn that it is a bit spicy). In terms of value, the price was pretty comparable to other Chinese restaurants in the area. Portion size was smaller than i expected but 2 dishes was just enough for my mom and I.

This was a good home-style Chinese place that had a nice mix of spicy and flavor dishes. I went with a friend from Hunan and they thought it was pretty authentic other than needing to use Mexican peppers as you can't easily import the right ones. It wasn't Sichuan numbing spicy and the food came out with a nice base spice level which you can amplify by eating the peppers like I like, or leaving them on your plate like my friend! Most of the meat options are fish or pork with minimal chicken or beef (but there are a couple) If you are looking for casual Chinese to share with friends or family, this is a nice quick stop!

One of the best Hunan places in Irvine in my opinion for Chinese food. There is plenty of seating and the lot usually has parking. The only thing is sometimes they run out of ingredients and they won't have certain dishes. The hand pulled chicken is one of my favorites, it is a bit spicy but just get some rice with it. Sunright is right next to the restaurant too, and they allow outside drinks. The cauliflower dish is also really good.

Horrible experience here. The young man who was our server was awful and seemed to hate his job, life, and everything, and projecting that onto us. We usually order takeout but decided to dine in today and we won't be back. We can't read or speak Chinese so we rely on the english section of the menu and ordered the "fried spicy intestine" and when it came out it was not fried. We showed him a photo of what we expected on yelp and he said that was actually the "spicy broth" and the english translation of the menu is wrong. Um... then fix it? How is the deep fried intestine called spicy broth?? Service was nonexistent. When we came into the restaurant we were the only customers there. We ordered soup and they didn't give us spoons and not once did they ask us how the food was. Try Kuan Zhai Alley near Spectrum. So much better.

I was on the way home and wanted green veggies and found this place. I think I got A-choy and it satisfied my craving and tasted fine, not as garlicky as I wanted but it was fine. I needed some proteins, so I got the fish fillet with sauerkraut, and it was also ok, not the best, not the worst but good enough, it had some kick to it. I asked for a recommendation on the third dish and the person suggested chicken, but I don't recall the actual description and just accepted it, it wasn't what I was expecting, it was good but if I knew what it was, I wouldn't have ordered it. It was chicken with bones and the bones were brittle so you had to be really careful. It was soupy and very spicy, in the numb your mouth type of spicy. The chicken was dry so it was good it was soupy so I could dip it with each bite. The place was a bit rundown and outdated. When I sat down to wait for my order (which took almost 30 minutes) it was a bit sticky. Maybe I got there close to closing time because there were workers in uniform having dinner, and then other workers at another table peeling vegetables. It seemed a bit weird. For whatever reason it took several minutes of me trying to catch their attention to take my takeout order even though they did greet me and knew I was there. I even closed the menu, universal sign of I've looked and made my decision. Everything was ok but I probably wouldn't return unless I was in the area and craving a leafy green vegetable again.

We checked in on the way to LAR airport. It was an early dinner visit, so pretty quiet, only two tables including us. Not sure if because we didn't have any expectation, or just because we were hungry, we feel the food here is above average among other Chinese restaurant.

My family and I came on Saturday at 5:30, and there was no wait at all. It was actually dead empty... so that should have warned us. The service fine, the decor was fine, everything was just fine. Parking is free and shared in a lot. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and nothing was great, just ok. The fried eggplant was probably my favorite but it was in a puddle of oil. Both the mapu tofu and salted egg tofu were bland and lackluster. Pork belly was tender. I liked the soup since the pork knuckle was soft and fatty. The fish scared everyone with its red dye. The sauce was neon red and tasted super artificial. We just poked at it and nibbled some pieces to try. The duck was so dark and so spicy. I can't even pinpoint what flavor the duck was because it was so spicy that my tongue went numb lol. I like spicy food but this had a bitter tart flavor that I didn't quite enjoy. Veggies were pretty ok, plain, and simple. Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone or ever go again. This is sad chinese food with dull flavors, lots of oil, and red 40 dye.

While the menu isn't large here, especially when compared to other Chinese restaurants like Tasty Garden and Tasty Noodle House, everything I tried here was good. I got the: salted peanuts, twice cooked pork with garlic stems, bean curd and vegetable soup, and cauliflower with pork dry pot. The pork in both dishes was thinly cut, juicy, and tender, the cauliflower was crispy and not too spicy, and the soup was surprisingly good despite its bland appearance. Service was ok here. You do need to ask for some dishes and for the check but the waiter got them to us fairly quick after asking. Tables are spaced out so you feel like you've got plenty of room.

If you like your Chinese food on the authentic side and don't mind having MSG once in a while then it's a good place to go, ordered take out few times and they were good, the salty egg eggplant was a bit greasy but the taste was not bad. Service is average. read more

Long, whoever that is, makes some pretty good mapo tofu. It's got the right amount of spice to make me sweat gently. This place is so authentic that when I asked for a fork, because let's be honest a fork is a better utensil than chopsticks, the waitress didn't know what a fork was. We had to get a translator to explain what a fork was. They had me smiling in this fine establishment. read more

Excellent food and service. This is home-style Hunan food, with no fussing, frills, or garnishes. The eggplant with pork, mapo tofu, the Hunan fish filet, and beef with green pepper (Serrano) are all standouts. Everything is spicy, but nothing is too spicy. It's all very well balanced. The #1 item is pork belly with jalapeño. It's really good. Like really really good. As far as the other stuff.... hmmm.... skewers were good too. Open really late which is another big positive for Irvine. As far as service, it was okay. Expect SGV-like experience. read more

TBH, I rly don't know why this restaurant had only three stars. They offer authentic Chinese dishes but also American style one. Both taste really good. I normally come here at least twice a week, I still remember before COVID you literally need to wait in line to be seated. I love their orange chicken and I will also order a authentic Chinese dish recommended by the owner to go with it. Never disappoint me here. This time the owner offered me this stinky tofu which completely surprised me. It got an special smell but when you eat it, the taste was just so addictive and you will want it again for sure. Everyone should give it a shot. read more

Highly recommend!! This restaurant has been in my TO GO place for months. For Sichuan restaurants, there are too many in the area. However for Hunan restaurants, this is the ONLY and the BEST place! Stinky Tofu is a must order here. You cannot find any other place in the whole LA with a more authentic stinky tofu than here! Never! Try it out, you will be surprised! read more

So long, Longs Kitchen. I can't see myself coming here again. My stomach literally churns as I write this. My roommates and I came here tonight as an act of desperation and convenience as we were hungry and King Chops, our original choice was closed. Truth to be told, we should have known better as the restaurant was empty, but the hunger must have affected our judgement. Despite the empty restaurant, service was atrocious. We had to keep flagging the waitstaff down like they did not even see us, even though there were only two other tables. The menu is simple, but I went with the classic Taiwanese staple, beef noodle soup, figuring that should be a safe choice. Wrong. The soup was very oily and very spicy. I do have a high tolerance for spice but the oil was too much for me. You can actually see the glossiness of the soup! With the lack of service and overly greasy food, I doubt I will come here again. Apparently, this place has changed ownership three times in the past two years already, all being replaced by one mediocre restaurant after another. (I guess third time isn't a charm). If Long's doesn't improve, I can see it following the same pattern. read more

Came here for a surprise birthday dinner, we booked 3 tables and almost took over half of the restaurant, although it was a busy Saturday evening, the manager still offered us 2 extra tables as gift table and cake table.The restaurant staff were very friendly and attentive. *** Three Flavor Stew: This is a famous home made dish in many mainland China Regions, only served during lunar new year or weddings and milestone birthday celebrations. The restaurant prepared this special dish for our dinner. Chicken soup base with fresh made egg dumpling, touch of date for the color and nature sweetness. IT IS SOOOO YUMMY THAT WE HAD TO FIGHT FOR SECONDS!!! - Chili Pepper & Thousand Year Egg: cold app. love the marinated green chili pepper, it is HOT!! I have never had such combination with thousand egg, to be honest, it was pretty refreshing :) - Sour cabbage & fish filet: the fresh sour cabbage marry well with the white fish filet. We had this dish after a few spicy dish and it tasted even better. -Traditional Birthday Noodle- Chicken soup base, chewy handmade noodle, dash of black fungus, topped with a fried egg. It might looked like a simple dish, but once you took a sip of the soup, you will melt... I come here way too much to be honest but I love the food here! My favorite is the oily bean curd hot pot and the yakitori style skewers! The skewers have cumin and other spices that I really enjoy and I think bring out the flavor in the meat. The oily bean curd is delightfully spicy without the burn and is great with a bowl of rice. Pro tip: service is pretty slow but come here during off times like 8pm and that won't really matter. So what if the staff aren't waiting on you hand and foot? Still good food so that's all that matters. read more

My mom took me here for lunch for something different. The food is different than that found in other Chinese restaurants in the area, and caters to mainlanders. Everything was fairly tasty, but many of the dishes were pretty salty and oily. Service was okay, but a bit casual. Interior simple and basic. A little pricey given the portion sizes. I might still come back to try some of their dishes just for something different. read more

Dining in is available. It locates just at the corner of the plaza. Easy to find. Parking is easy and close. Dishes are tasty. Their new Liangpi is so chewy but not too spicy. Stinky Tofu is close enough to what we had in China. Eggplant with green chili and thousand-year egg is authentic and flavored, served in the special traditional mortar and pestle. Overall good place to enjoy a taste authentic Chinese food. read more

i eat this once a couple weeks, really haven't had bad dishes yet, it really feels like authentic chinese food! don't expect fancy service or anything, think of it as a quality off the street family restaurant in china, which got teleported to irvine... i don't think it's for everyone / picky people, but if you want some chinese food cooked like a family style restaurant from china give it a shot read more

To be honest, this is the restaurant with the most oil in the dishes I have ever eaten in the states. I know that some of the Chinese dishes used to have heavy oil but this is too much. It tastes just ok but will not good for you health if you eat them frequently. read more

Really terrible experience. Only one servant serviced for our cabinet room and I had to serve in person all the time. We wait for soooooo long for each dish and always cannot call the servant come to serve. And required me 20% of service tip. Not worth at all !!! The dishes are just normal. read more

I should've listened to the other reviews. I thought ordering take out would be different and I could avoid the slow service. I placed a pick up order at 10:50am and the lady informed me that my order would be ready in 20min. My gf went to pick up the order and the order still wasn't ready until 11:40 nearly almost a hour wait. The food here is decently good but the wait makes the food not worth it. -it also was not a packed house only two tables were eating inside. read more

We ordered 3 dishes today, hunan style braised pork was ok, griddle cooked spicy chicken was also ok except it's overcooked and a bit too dry and hard to bite. The stir-fried port tripe was terrible. It's definitely not fresh and it's extremely salty (more like the cook didn't know how to appropriately prepare the marinated salty veggies before cooking) and they must have left the pork tripe for days or they didn't clean it for it to smell rotten. So disappointed! read more

Have not been here since they changed ownership years ago. Had a party of 9 and sat at the "private" table in the back. My friend pre-ordered couple fish dishes. And we ordered several other dishes. I have to say all the dishes taste great. My favorite is the huge bones with meat and bone marrow. They provided gloves so your hands would not get dirty. They also provided straws to "drink" the bone marrow! Mashed eggplant with thousand year old egg is another favorite! Garlic stirred friend veggies (A choy and baby bok choy) are good too! Located in a small plaza that's easy to overlook, Long's kitchen has some great 红烧牛肉面（beef noodle soup). It's not spicy enough for me, but it's still very tasty. It's a good amount and even though I am normally left hungry after eating one dish, the beef noodle fills me up. If I'm going with a friend or two, we'll get the Hunan fried rice. It's super tasty! Other reviews mentioned the special pork dish with the serrano peppers. I love it! All in all, this place is very authentic. Even the just okay service is authentic. Personally, I don't mind the hands off approach to service, as long as they keep refilling the drinks. When I need a place to hang with friends without constant server interruption, I know Long's kitchen is my place. read more

I didn't even get a chance to eat the food. I sat down for sunday dinner at 6:23pm and the restaurant was relatively empty with only 4 other parties sitting down. Was told to sit at any table and waited for our menus or for any server to serve us. We waited until 6:35pm before getting up and leaving. Not a single employee paid attention to us or brought us our menus. What made it worse was that another group of guests who came in after us got served before we did. I know it's a chinese restaurant and they tend to not have the best service but this is just awful. read more

I have always enjoyed the food here in the past, but this recent visit was disappointing for me ( just my personal feeling). The dishes are supposed to be spicy are no longer spicy but VERY sweet. There are bad aftertaste, maybe from the extra sugar and MSG. I don't think I will go back to this place anymore. It used to be one of my favorite places in Irvine. Also the AC was not at the cooling temperature. It was HOT while eating in the restaurant. read more

To be honest, food is authentic. Service is very depends, sometimes fare, sometimes cold,and the only reason I gave to 2 stars just because they even didn't ask and just charged your tips directly with bill together!!!! Holy cannoli the Pork with Green Peppers is on fire. Typically when you say green peppers I'm thinking green bell peppers... But no siree they are sliced green Serrano peppers!! My mouth was on fire but the dish was decent. Thinly sliced Pork belly slices stir fry with Serrano peppers. Was it a little greasy? Yes. But what Chinese food isn't? At least it wasn't bland and I enjoyed my quick meal with a hot steamy bowl of rice. Service was just fine. Now, I think Rol its sister restaurant has taken its popularity but overall I would say Sup has never disappointed me in all of its years in opening. High quality food with a fair price and though they don't advertise it anymore, the unlimited noodles is still one of the best parts about eating here. I would say the only thing about SUP, is unlike its sister restaurants, it doesn't have as much of a rotating menu and their limited/seasonal items are a bit hit or miss (personally). But I don't mind because I think their base menu doesn't need much straying. The service is top notch like all of their restaurants but the restaurant itself tends to be a bit loud (like all of their restaurants). Nice, modern, casual place to eat, good for all ages.

From the beginning, our server appeared visibly impatient. When we repeated a couple of dish names to make sure the order was correct, she began speaking to us in an unnecessarily loud and irritated tone. Her voice was loud enough that another employee noticed the situation and offered to take over the order. Instead of accepting the help professionally, our server responded that the other employee would not be able to understand what she had written in Korean. When the other employee later asked her to repeat our order, she read it back very loudly and with obvious anger. The entire restaurant could hear her, and the experience made our whole family feel embarrassed and extremely uncomfortable, especially since we had children with us. Later, she seemed to realize that her behavior had affected us. She brought us a noodle dish "on the house" and briefly said sorry. While we appreciated the gesture, it did not undo the way we were treated in front of the entire restaurant. My question is: if you knew your behavior required an apology afterward, why treat customers that way in the first place? Customers should not be made to feel like an inconvenience simply because they are dining with a larger group or placing a larger order. We came to enjoy a family meal, not to be spoken to with hostility and publicly embarrassed. Unfortunately, this experience completely overshadowed the food.

All take outs only and in disposable bowls/containers. You can sit inside or outside. I understand during the pandemic why this was necessary but should be fine to return to normal operation at this point. So much garbage created with all the one-time-use stuff. Most people opt to dine in so makes no sense to have so much trash. And the indoor table was sticky. I know this is now a take out only place so diners have to clear their own plates... but we were the first group sitting down at our table when the restaurant opened...shouldn't the tables be cleaned initially before starting the day's operation? The biggest letdown...food. For a place that used to pride itself in freshly made udon and soba, these two dishes were terribly average. They might have used diluted soba tsuyu for the dipping sauce...it is not the full flavored version but tasted rather watered down in order the fill the larger takeout cup. The soup for nabeyaki also tasted bland, not as flavorful as their old broth. I think I could make a better broth using udon powder packets from grocery store. The rice dishes like katsu-don and prime beef steak were ok. Now the beloved Fukada feels like a generic food court stall. Of course it's still popular but the food is not the same.

Horrible service cause there is NO service at all. Came here to try it out for lunch. Took forever just to get a menu which we had to flag them down for. It would have been nice if they could offer us some water when they brought the menus but no. We watched the two waitresses walk back and forth from the kitchen bringing one thing in or out at a time, basically being very inefficient. They also seemed too focused on serving the boss there when they should be helping customers first. It's prime lunch time. We were also disappointed they had no lunch specials. Most places around here have some sort of special so that was surprising. We flagged both waitresses to let them know we were ready to order and they acknowledged us but wouldn't come over. They both seemed to avoid us probably because we spoke English to them. We just couldn't wait any longer so we decided to take our business somewhere else. There are plenty of other places that care to serve all their customers. My advice to the boss lady, you should consider having your customers served as a priority rather than having your workers serve you first. Service is already slow enough as is. read more

My visit to Long's Kitchen was one I had hoped to enjoy, but it turned out to be quite the opposite. The centerpiece of my meal, the soup, was a letdown. It had a foul oder and a taste that left much to be desired. Even though the restaurant did not charge for the soup, which I appreciated, the expectation of a 15% tip felt unreasonable given the circumstances. Tipping is a reward for service excellence, and while the gesture of not charging for the soup was noted, it did not offset the overall negative experience. A tip, especially one of 15%, should reflect the quality of both the food and service, which unfortunately did not meet the mark during my visit. I hope Long's Kitchen takes this feedback to heart and improves, as I believe every customer deserves a pleasant dining experience. read more
