Met a friend for lunch today and very surprised how much I liked it. Lots of tables, very clean and we had the nicest waitress. This is out in Jones, so a bit of drive for me. I do love to go to new places, especially in smaller towns. I ordered a Mushroom Swiss Burger with Bacon. Bacon was real crisp. The bun was buttered and grilled. Very good, old timer burger. This was our first trip to Longhorn and we absolutely loved it! It has the small town cafe feel, but also very roomy. The service was great and the prices were unreal. They Ayce catfish was incredible. It was so much like home cooked filets I couldn't believe it. It was better than my former long term favorite. The fried squash was also excellent. We stopped in here for breakfast/lunch while house shopping. Service was great. I love the dive feeling. The menu is extensive but not too much. I had the breakfast sandwich and the hubs had the patty melt with fries. Both were great but the fries were skinny and not my preference. I loved how you could tell locals were there grabbing their own takeout containers. read more

Showed up as half the lunch crowd was leaving. Ordered a chef salad and BLT. 30-40 minutes later and no food. One lady sent her burger back because it had a hair in it. 2 guys were cleaning a 4 top, leaving trash on the floor & didn't wipe the table (our table had not been wiped either). So we decided to try this out on a recommendation from a friend. I had the 2 piece catfish(1/2 lb filets) with onion rings and salad. My wife had the fried shrimp dinner (8 pieces) with salad and sweet potato fries. The catfish was outstanding. The onion rings were so so. The salad and dressing was good. My wife's shrimp were very oily(she only ate 2) and the SP fries did not have any flavor to them and were not cooked long enough. The server and service were great. The place is very clean and well lit. Looked like they can seat between 80-100 folks. It was starting to get busy by 5. I got my bill and noticed the fish fry was more than advertised. When I asked they told me the onion rings were a premium side and cost a dollar more. Tht was fine except I asked abt them before I ordered and she said I could get them but failed to mention the extra charge. Again I still would have ordered them but tht is something they should state. I did notice afterwards it was on the menu so partly my fault as well. It was overall a good meal just needed more seasoning. A little salt goes a long way. They also come with hush puppies which were really nice and moist. Could tell they used cream corn in them. More like a 3.5 but just couldn't stretch a 4 star because of the oily shrimp and bland fries. read more

The food was absolutely delicious. The service was quick and our waitress helped me select my food. We got there around 11. The eggs were cooked to perfection. The potatoes were lightly crisp. The bacon, sausage, cheese and peppers delicious. They have service members on the wall from all branches of the military. I assume the owner is a Veteran. read more

This is a solid cafe. My sister mother and I frequent here at least once a week. Up until today, we would have given it a solid 5-star review without even blinking an eye. We have had so many different dishes and feel that we are able to unequivocally give you our opinion. First, the service is tops. Wveryone in there treats tou as family. They have smiles, a great big hello, or similar greeting while handing you an expansive menu. The service is quick, and the food is always fresh and hot. Being a small town, there aren't very many other places to pick. There is another cafe in town but it is very difficult to get from your car to the cage due to the huge steps you have to take. My mother is 83 years old and can not do it. Now, my point is that if there were 20 different places to choose from, Longhorns would be our #1 pick until today. The food has always been fantastic and consistent, until today. The fried chicken breast has always been so good, tender, juicy, and easy to cut until today. The fried zucchini has a tempura-type coating encaosulating the whole oiece and fried to where you could pick each zucchini piece individually, until today. The pork chops have always been fried with a thin coating to allow the pork chop to be the star until today. The fried catfish is always perfect, as is the patty melt, including today. The house did take off for my sister's meal as she could not eat any of it, as her pork chip had so much breading and hard, she was unable to enjoy it. Her zucchini was breaded with the breading as the porkchop in a conglomerated pile. But they forgot to take off the extra charge that they charge for the zucchini. My mother's patty melt and crispy tots were perfect for her, and my husband's fried catfish was light, flaky, tender and had a good and clean taste, just as we have come to expect from there! His sides of real mashed potatoes with gravy and green bean were tasty as well, and he had no complaints.He was a very happy customer My chicken fried chicken breast was ordered with gravy on the side. I think the cook thought the ticket gravy on BOTH sides as there was gravy under the chicken and over the chicken. Now, to be fair, this may be the way they always plate the chicken, I have no idea as I always order it on the side. The chicken was tough, dry, and stringy. There was nothing left of that poor bird but the stringy meat. Admittedly, the gravy did help. I had to actually put muscle to my serrated steak knife to cut that poor, dried out old bird's breast. I felt so sorry for it! We did ask the waitress if the cook was new, as we knew there should be some flexibility and patience should be given on our part for a new cook. However, the waitress denied having a new cook, but the regular cook that cooks during weekdays was not there today. Anyway, I hope I painted a good picture of our food, both positive and not so positive. Also, the need to check your check is very important. They have a system where you can scan your ticket and pay for your check that way. There have been a few instances that this mode has not reflected the correct amount due. So please, I ask that you remember to practice your due diligence. Today, as I said, they did comp my sister's lunch, which I truly did appreciate. I went ahead and scanned my ticket, and it showed the comp plus other subtractions and additions. It reminded me of the Federal applied math application! It came out to be the same amount as if they did not comp my sister's meal at all. So, I turned to my paper ticket, and they comped ALL of our meals. Wow! How generous are they?!?! So, I went to the register, spoke to my waitress, and explained that my total showed to be $0.00. Another young lady came in to join the conversation, stated that they only comped one meal but not the whole ticket. After showing her the ticket I was given, she gave me a corrected ticket, which was correct, with the exception of the $1.00 off for my sister's zucchini and my mother's $1.00 off as she ordered a burger The special today was $1.00 off any burger. I thought that a patty melt was a burger, right? But by this time, I was done, I didn't want to argue or go into any confrontation. I paid my bill with a generous tip as most of the mistakes made were not hers. While walking out of the cafe, we discussed among ourselves that MWC was not that far and had many other fine selections around. Bottom line, I would and will go back, but we will call ahead and ask if the regular cook is working that day. Secondly, I certainly will keep my due diligence on my ticket as well. read more
