The employees here are very nice, professional, and friendly. The ambience is delightfully retro, very clean, and was high on my return often list, until the food arrived. I ordered their special: Indian Taco. I have been trying frybread tacos all around the city and this one has to be the absolute oddest one I've ever had. I've been serviced frybread tacos that were chili mounded on a slice of white bread with two whole leaves of lettuce, a slice of american cheese and a slice of tomato. This one was odder. It's been 5 hours since I ate this "Indian Taco" and I still am not sure what I ate. Mind - the beans and chili on the top were good, the lettuce and tomatoes were good, the cheese was standard shredded cheddar. My issue is with what those covered, because it absolutely was not frybread. I don't know what it was. It was round, about 1/2" thick, with a thin crunchy, batter-style crust, the interior was kind of spongy in a way that was indecipherable. I ate the entire thing trying to figure out what it was. Was it some kind of pureed and pressed chicken patty? I've had chicken like that. And it tasted very strongly of chicken. Looking at the interior, it could have maybe been a really dense bread, but it could equally be a spongy chicken. I am still wondering what kind of bread that could possibly have been. Why it had a battered coating. Why ot was so dense. Was it bread? Was it chicken? My companion had the mushroom swiss burger, which was a slice of white cheddar, a couple of mushrooms, and deep fried beef patty. Maybe we caught them on an off day. Maybe other dishes are better. I'm willing to give them another try. But "Indian Tacos" are off the list. What did I actually eat? Bread or chicken? read more

Ray's Café from the outside and inside looks like it was lost in the 60s don't let that stop you from ordering a great meal. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. I ordered a patty, melt coleslaw and a side of chili. My hubby ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. My patty melt and happy. Bacon cheeseburger were both delicious but my favorite was the chili. I've only had breakfast here so I can't speak to anything else on the menu but this is a solid little hop-in-the-wall joint with great simple, cheap diner-style breakfast. This is a cozy little diner tucked in a somewhat sketchy looking corner of town-- don't let that stop you from going on in and enjoying the delicious food! The inside is very quaint and homey-- fresh flowers on the tables and some plants help a lot to liven up an otherwise pedestrian diner. We went on catfish night and were not disappointed! Would I say it was the best catfish I've had? No, but everything was really solid and the portions are large. They will refill your plate with catfish two times on Friday so come hungry! Side highlights were the onion rings, green beans (with a bit of fatback), and the herman slaw (cross between cole slaw and sauerkraut-- surprisingly tasty)! We stopped in to Ray's for a mid-morning Sunday breakfast. What a nice place, with a homey atmosphere. Our server, was so sweet, as well as fast and efficient. I had a typical breakfast of bacon and eggs, along with oatmeal and hash browns. I especially liked the hash browns because they were shredded and cooked to golden, crispy perfection. Everything else was good, too. Connie was quick to refill my coffee when needed. The price was very reasonable. Next time I'm in OKC, I'll definitely come back to Ray's. Lovely little gem tucked away on NW 50th near Target. Looking for an early morning cheap eat, that wasn't fast food or breakfast, we decided to swing into Target to pick up some soup. You ask.. what in the World does that have to do with Rays.. well I'm getting there.. Target isnt quite opened yet, so we decide to look at the dives around and spotted this little gem. Honestly, I had no idea it was there and have lived in the area for years, but I'm glad we found! We arrived to find open seating, the waitress promptly took our drink order... the food all sounded delicious so it took us a few minutes to order. I ended up getting pork chops with mashed potatoes and my wife a club and French fries. Very delicious! My only qualm is the pork chops were slightly dry, but other than that everything else was on spot. Probably the best French fries i have ever tasted. I had taken a week off from my overextended scheduled life in Vegas to come to Oklahoma to visit family. On Sundays, that meant I'd be going to church and having lunch afterward. After a long Episcopalian service, my grandma said she was starving and that she wanted to go to Ray's. I'd never heard of this place and looked it up on Yelp. Yes, they were open. When she pulled up, I was taken aback. It was in a little run down building and was packed. When we got inside, I was the only person, save for a little girl with her grandma, under the age of 65. My grandma ordered a BLT and I ordered the chicken with a side of fruit and okra an order of grits. It was cheap, but not worth the price because the food was meh. "A side of fruit" actually meant canned fruit cocktail. I haven't eaten that since I was in an elementary school cafeteria - suffice to say, that was inedible. The chicken was just a sad little breast that had been served in warm Italian dressing. The okra was the frozen, breaded kind that's more breading than okra. Disappointing. The grits were okay. This is the place for budget diners. This place is CHEAP! And a great value for your dollar. I'm the type of person to get something cheaper, but at these prices I decided to go for the steak... On my second trip to Ray's for breakfast, I decided to try the French toast. The menu description says it's made from "homemade brioche," which made me curious. It's sneaky good! I ordered 3 slices with crispy bacon on the side. The slices were a generous size. It was clear that the menu description is correct. This is brioche, not Texas toast. That's what I prefer for French toast. It was not too eggy and not too crispy -- just right! I also liked that the syrup poured out of the container slowly since I don't like to drown French toast in syrup. I dined with a friend this time. We arrived shortly before the stated opening time of 8:00 am. Well, 8:00 am came and went with no activity at the front door. A few minutes later, an employee opened the door. Two other parties entered with us. Service was as speedy as one might expect when one server is working a room with 3 tables. Ray's Cafe is such a gem! We have been a few times for breakfast in the past, and it is just as you would expect a cafe breakfast to be! Eggs cooked to order and all the traditional sides. What makes Ray's extra special is Persian night! My husband and I enjoyed our meals- we almost felt like we had enjoyed dinner in a friends home. We sat ourselves and as we waited for the waitress to come give us our menus, you could hear her yelling from the prep area to a customer, " do you want more toast?" Ironically, I was shorted on my toast but I am a female maybe that's why she was so indifferent. I watched our waitress cough as she was walking through the restaurant and didn't even attempt to cover her mouth. She had nothing in her hands. The poached eggs were swimming in water in a bowl and I only got 1 piece of toasts and the link sausage had a strange flavor. I chose Texas Toast and my dining partner chose a breakfast of eggs, bacon and French toast for the same price. He got 2 slices of Texas toast. When I asked the waitress about it she just laughed and said, " that's the way it is". She didn't even offer to get me more. She walked away. As we were paying for our breakfast she said" I asked the cook about why you only get one piece of toast and he said because it's a dollar more." What?? That's really NOT a reason at all. Ray's is still just as good as it has ever been, if not better. It's a big, warm, familiar hug. I come here when I'm happy, I come here when I'm sad (and I usually order nothing but pancakes and Black Forest cake when I'm sad), I come here when our power gets knocked out by an October ice storm (thanks again to the lovely waitress who let me have an entire pot of coffee), and every time I leave the day is always a little bit better than when it started. There's pretty much nothing on the menu that isn't good. Come for Persian night on Thursdays, trust me. All of the waitstaff are nice as nice can be, as is the owner. My wife and I live in the area we were excited to see Ray's open! But we cannot honestly review the business because for the three times we have been to the business they have been closed? All durring open hours online but closed at the business with no hours posted on the door etc? To be fair one time there was a sign saying the water was shut off and we could see a crew fixing a big leak. Will review again if we ever try again and find them open. read more

This unassuming little diner has some of the best comfort food in OKC. Since trying it for the first time, this has become a favorite of ours for those nights we just don't want to cook, but want home cooked food. They have nightly specials (Persian night, Italian night, etc.) and their blueberry brioche French toast is truly divine. Highly recommend. read more

Have always enjoyed the food here and I did visit it again recently since my power was out. Food was great as normal but I was disappointed in their lack of enforcing Covid 19 measures. When I first walked in I saw where there were "X"s on tables and I thought that was good. However as I sat there I noticed two things. First, patrons were coming in with no masks on and were being allowed to do so even though there are signs on the entry door saying they are required for entry. Second, I discovered the "X"s on tables don't mean anything. People began sitting at these tables and the staff didn't say anything to them about those being closed and began the serving process with them. Ray's is a clean, well lighted place and a new stop for me. I took a seat and the waitress brought the menu. I almost couldn't believe what I was seeing, "Vegetable Beef Soup." Almost nobody serves this. But this place does-- and with cornbread, but it's too sweet. "I'll have that beef soup," I told the waitress. What I ordered was a cup, not a bowel. I wanted a test size, and then I ordered another. No cornbread this time because only one bite was missing from the one I had, and I guess she could see that I didn't like it. Right!. The menu looks interesting, but I'm giving the soup a C. And I'm giving only two stars because the service is also lacking, slow and undependable.
