I really wanted everything to be wonderful (and delicious) since it was a celebration of our 90 year old patriarch, and Rachael totally delivered. highlights: Rachael was happy to work with my preferences (French country) on the menu, never pressured me to stick with a preset menu, this was probably the main reason I went with her. She arrived with a helper well ahead of time, was extremely attentive to the details of our venue and the timing, after we had aperitifs outdoors she suggested a group photo and offered to fill in as photographer. This was a great idea since it was the golden hour and nothing we could have staged as well later at the table. Rachael and her team planned, cooked & served the most scrumptious dinner to celebrate our friend's 75th birthday. The evening started with a wine pairing with local cheeses. Rachael catered a 4-course Mother's Day dinner for 17 of my family members and it was the highlight of our day - not cooking but still having delicious food! The caprese salad with balsamic drizzle was the crowd favorite as the cheese and heirloom tomatoes were so fresh. We had two entrées: pesto chicken and orecchiette with sausage. I loved the locally-sourced sausage. The flavor was better than anything you could buy at the supermarket. The zucchini with red chard was both colorful and flavorful. Rachael was an absolute blessing to find. We planned our wedding at a family friends' private residence for 150 people in Sonoma this past June. We do not live in the area, so our ability to find people to help put on our wedding was based on internet searches and recommendations. We experienced growing pains learning what it really took to plan an event of that size and importance to us. Prior to finding Rachael and Lone Pine, we had an unfortunate negative experience with a different caterer that had been recommended to us, which had left us stressed, overwhelmed, disappointed, and scrambling for a solution. We made calls to numerous other local caterers searching for a new option. From the very first conversation we had with Rachael, and during each subsequent planning call in the months thereafter; anytime we would feel the weight and stress of planning, Rachael helped calm us down, make us feel listened to, understood, cared for, and that we would be/were now in great hands. We gave Rachael a brief recap of our experience with our previous caterer, our needs/wants/hopes for our wedding, our ideas, budget, specifics, and all questions we had to that point. She continually made us feel that any of our ideas were possible, while also providing practical and experience-based guidance when needed. She took to heart all our questions and concerns and took amazing care of us as well as the home owners that were so generous to let us use their home for our wedding. The day of our wedding, she handled everything perfectly. She was proactive in anticipating challenges the hot weather would present for certain dishes and made adjustments on the fly. Her menu recommendations and choices were seasonal, locally sourced, fresh and delicious. She and her staff delivered everything beyond what was even promised, they were professional, kind, attentive, and the service was seamless and timely. Rachael herself was/is so kind, warm, and genuine, we are so happy to have found her. Needed help with a 78th birthday lunch party for my wife. Chef Rachael made it easy (and fun!) We picked a menu from the pictures on her website, added dessert and in less than an hour had a perfect plan. She and Loreen came early to set up. They professionally facilitated getting food to the 30 people gathered in our small backyard. I thought the food was all delicious and I got many enthusiastic comments from our guests. Afterwards they cleaned up leaving us nothing to do except to enjoy having some (but not too many) wonderful leftovers over the next day or so. I love that they are a local business too. Rachael catered dinner for 10 adults for a birthday party at an AirBnB rental we had for 2 days. We discussed all the details by phone and email. She made everything fresh and homemade as the guests noticed how good the vegetables were and the dishes were made with love. We ate mushroom, thyme and goat cheese dumplings, scallion pancakes with ponzu sauce, local organic chicken thighs with baby potatoes, grape tomatoes, pesto sauce, basil and pecorino, chopped salad with Italian vinaigrette, Mediterranean stuffed zucchini, and shaved Brussel sprouts with lemon, garlic, mustard seeds. She accommodated our one vegan guest at my request, as she set aside a version of each dish separately and labeled in each pan. She delivered everything to us at the house and on time. My recent experience with Rachel's catering services was nothing short of a disaster, and I feel obligated to share it to save others from similar frustration. From the start, Rachel promised customization and flexibility, though its clear that it's just a hollow sales pitch. Two simple requests to switch red meat to fish were made. She abruptly terminated our agreement on the day the deposit was due with an extremely passive aggressive text message, citing missed opportunities with other clients despite the deposit deadline not yet being reached and how our budget was too tight (even though we hit the minimum spend amount). The final straw came when I requested a minor modification to accommodate a pescatarian guest. Rachel asked for an extra $70 for a single dish of pasta to be substituted with a couple shrimp. She's right, we're medical residents and don't make much, so spending $70 on a couple of shrimp for a single SERVING of a single dish is outrageous. In fact, I encourage everyone never to spend $70 for a couple of shrimp. Her response to this review was that she had to "make an entirely new dish," but that's not true. She stated in her email that she would just sub pork with shrimp. My friends and I were actually OK with the base-stated amount and we even asked to place the deposit the same day, but this final request angered her and that's when she decided to go on her text tirade shortly after I asked for this change. For reference, other caterers will give you a flat fee per/person and list various menu options instead of nickel and diming you when you request to substitute for dietary restrictions. To add to the frustration, the initial menu provided was incomplete, and her deposit policy requiring a mandatory 20% gratuity upfront was outrageous. Especially given her extreme unprofessionalism and aggression, we dodged a huge bullet. In conclusion, Rachel's false promises, resistance to simple requests, and unprofessional conduct make her catering services a nightmare to deal with. Spare yourself the headache and find a caterer who values their customers and professionalism. read more
