One of my favorite lunch spots! Unique handmade sandwiches made to order with wonderful flavor!

Old school Mexican tradition since the 50s. My parents have enjoyed El Popo since the 50s/60s originally in Nuevo Laredo Mexico then Laredo Texas. Same great taste. Highly recommend if you want kitchen flavor in your burger. Great limited menu but nothing disappoints. Spread the word.

Era el mejor lonche de mi vida! El lonche de jamón y hamburguesa estaba riquísimo! Asta nos trajeron chiles para acompañar!

If you are from Laredo or have friends/family from Laredo, they will tell you this is a staple for them. The food is Mexican style hamburger themed and the lemonade was delicious! Overall, the menu is simple and straightforward. We ordered the hamburger with cheese, the shredded beef and the wiener with cheese (wiener and cheese was my favorite). The service was great and ambience was small and welcoming. Overall, it's a nice deviation from traditional Tex mex.

Theis hard working crew are a master class on how to do things right. Sit down and a counter worker will come to you and take your order. It's an easy menu, and you can add avocado, cheese, etc to your choice of meat on a bun. Mexican Cokes, bottled water, and Lays potato chips complete the offerings. While you're waiting a small bowl of Serranos en escabeche and your drink and chips are served. Piping hot, on real plates, it's just the best! Check the photos for a current snapshot of the still very reasonable prices.

Lonchería El Popo never disappoints! Seriously, so good! Their $2.99 Lonches are a great deal! You should definitely try them out! Also, great option for big gatherings, quick office lunch, or having a lot of family over haha!

Simple menu. So delicious! Great people. I tell everyone i know about this gem of a restaurant.

The jamon with a side of chips, a drizzle of Valentina sauce and a Mexican coke. Perfect combo!

This is one of those hidden gems that everyone should know about. It's located in a shopping strip on San Pedro near Oblate. The menu is limited but thats okay because it's what they do best. The lonches may be small in size but that are big on flavor and low in price. One was plenty for me, but someone with a bigger appetite may need more. We ordered the hamburguesa and the jamon and trust me they did not disappoint. They were so juicy and full of flavor. I highly recommend. PS- This establishment was very clean and the service was fast and super friendly.

I passed this on the way to my assignment location and began researching this spot. Some google…read morereviews mentioned they are F1 fans and Ferrari people. So I knew I had to check them out. I was able to make my way here on my last day in San Antonio in late March thanks to my flight being delayed and my oh my, I am quite impressed! The older gentleman taking my order at the counter gave me a big smile when I mentioned I heard you have this thing called the serious sandwich here. He told me that they do and then stated "You won't regret ordering it, seriously." Chuckling, I decided on a half order of that along with a side of potato salad and their side of beans. After taking my first bite, I realized the gentleman was right. This is a dope sandwich! Excellent cured meats in the salamar and pair of hams along with the provolone and melted cheddar with the veggies, spices, italian dressing, and mustard. The bread they use holds up well and has a slight crunch to it. If you prefer your bread to have softness to it, you may have to ask if they can substitute a different bread instead of the italian flat bread they use. But I absolutely love this sandwich the way it is! As for the sides, the potato salad has a slight mustard taste and right consistency with a dash of paprika on top; just the way I like it. The beans are charro beans (I think) that are served steaming hot with some pork trimmings mixed in; I may have dipped my sandwich in it a couple times for flavor explosion. What can I say, I'm adventurous! There's some ferrari memorabilia and posters on the right side where some of the high top seating is. As a Ferrari F1 fan, I appreciate them displaying this here along with the track map of the COTA circuit in Austin. The seating area is spread out nicely with plenty of seats/tables and a drink station with some random signs up. All of interest to consumers like us. Definitely recommend coming here for either the serious sandwich or other delicious ones like their meatball sandwich or manhattan. I can't wait to come back and try the other ones but I may just stick with the serious sandwich cause I loved it. SERIOUSLY!

The second time, I saw the reviews with 'skimpy meat' so ordered extra meat. They have chips, garden salad, mac salad, potato salad, etc. We were pleased. It's the kind of place folks drift into and, before long, start calling their own. The people there carry themselves with quiet pride--no fuss, no show--just a steady hand at their work and a genuine welcome for whoever steps through the door. The menu ain't thrown together. It's been shaped with care, like a well-tuned string on a guitarra, each choice meant to stand on its own but better still when taken together. The flavors come through bold and honest, with a little flourish here and there--nothing overdone, just enough to remind you somebody back there knows what they're about. It's a small spot, sure, but that only draws folks closer. Feels a bit like gathering under a shaded porch after a long day--easy talk, shared laughter, and the sense you're among friends, whether you've known 'em years or just met 'em. Every greeting carries the warmth of old ties, like you've been welcomed back rather than simply let in. And the food--well, it doesn't hold back. Spend a little time there with friends, and you'll come away knowing you've found something true--a place where the spirit of San Antonio, with its charro heart and neighborly ways, lives on in every plate set down and every hand extended in welcome.

So, when co-workers wanted to go yesterday, I jumped on it. Don't get me wrong. I love the vibe of this place. I LOVE their story. It's very NY/Northeastern deli feel (they're from Pittsburgh, but you get my drift, right!?). No nonsense. Small inside area. No tables inside. Just enough room to look at the menu, order, and go wait outside. I opted for the chicken bacon ranch on hoagie. What came out was a decent size sandwich, but incredibly messy and soggy. There was so much juice/ liquid the sandwich quickly became unmanageable and just disintegrated. Look, if you're going to serve a sandwich that messy, please upgrade your napkins. It was a one bite - two napkin ratio. The sandwich was good, but the mess and difficulty eating it just took away any enjoyment. Additionally, the flies outside rivaled the worst I've experienced. Do you remember the scene in the Lost World, Jurassic Park movie when the hunters found the Rex nest!? Okay, okay, maybe not that bad, but it was a lot. Hang some fly bags or strips or somethin'. Found price to be a little high. By the time I bought chips and a drink, plus tip: $22. Just FYI: my co-worker disagrees. He thought it was the BEST SANDWICH HE'D EVER HAD. So, yes, go give them a try, but bring a beach towel for clean up.

Usually Wagyu is known to be juicy and moist, but this tasted nothing like that caliber. It was disappointing but at least not very pricy. Fries were okay but pretty chopped up and not the style I prefer. Some of the other places looked promising like the ice cream and cafe. The poke/ceviche also sounded good on paper but when we walked by (maybe around 1.5-2 hours before closing), the quality of the raw fish didn't look too great and was a little discolored so we passed.
