The restaurant is a nondescript joint on Fredericksburg Road; definitely no frills. But it's very clean and the waitstaff were all professional and on-the-spot in their service. The Chicken Fried Steak was indeed good, though not really anything that would set it apart from most other CFS' you could get elsewhere. This little neighborhood (Mexican) restaurant was the biggest little surprise of the month. I went in for lunch on a recommendation to try the chicken fried steak and WOW! I never would have thought this "bigger inside than it looks outside" place would even offer a CFS... then you realize it is priced at under $10 and comes with two sides! Great value for the meal. The Chicken Fried Steak was extremely tender and able to be cut with a fork. There was a good breading-to-steak ratio, and it was a good size too. I ordered the CFS with mashed potatoes and green beans. The mashed potatoes were very good and worth mentioning. The service was very friendly and the dining room was almost completely full. This would explain the lack of parking requiring having to park down the street. I don't find myself in this neighborhood often, but next time I do, I'll definitely think about stopping in again. read more

Service was fast and efficient. I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The crust was crunchy and perfectly seasoned. The beef was fork tender. The mashed potatoes were very tasty and obviously made from scratch. The obligatory roll was the only miss, a store bought lump of bland-tasting nothingness. But that is incredibly minor. Huevo ala mex, pancakes with bacon and eggs and a bean and cheese three sweet teas and a lemonade was right around $45 but again just ok. The sweet tea and lemonade were pretty good though. The server seemed to have forgotten to place our order and had us wait almost 40 minutes, while everyone around us was getting prompt service. The food was a bit bland for my taste. It's great for people with high blood pressure, tho. It's low in sodium. Good size portions. The Wednesday special is advertised at $5.99 with free tea, but it's actually $7. The daily lunch specials here are amazing. We came here on a Friday where the lunch specials were chicken strips, flautas, or fish for $5.99. I went with the chicken strips and it came with three HUGE strips, French fries, and a large tea. The chicken was hot And fried nicely- it didn't have an overly oily flavor and tasted fresh. The gravy was a little bland so I added some pepper and it kicked it up a notch. You seat yourself for lunch- we were here before 1130 and most of the tables were already filled up. This place is super busy! And with the lunch specials they offer I can see why. We waited a good bit to have our drink order taken, but they were obviously busy and not intentionally being neglectful so it wasn't an issue. The food came out quickly. My update on Peter El Norteno... I gave them a bad rating a few years back an about a 18 months later. I decided to try and give them a chance after all I never complained about their food. Other items worth trying on the menu are their chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, chicken tenders and literally anything from the breakfast menu. When you get your plate you just know that it was made fresh for you. The parking situation is pretty awful as this place is constantly packed and really busy. I found out about this gem some time back. All I can say is wow! I love this place. The tacos are good, environment is nice, and the prices are cheap. The bacon and egg tacos are made the way they're supposed to made, chopped bacon cooked and mixed in with the scrambled eggs. Most other Mexican restaurants just put scrambled eggs in the taco then add a strip of bacon, not here! Also the machacado tacos here taste really good. Tortillas are awesome, beans taste great, and the sweet tea is so refreshing. I'll keep on eating here and hope this place never changes! read more

A surprisingly nice place. The parking has a lot to be desired but once inside this little gem, it's much larger than expected. There's no mistaking what's on special on any given day because it's listed clearly. I went on a Thursday and had the Hamburger special. I usually split a hamburger with whom ever I'm with, but I ate the whole thing 'cuz I was hungry and it was delicious! I had my burger with the works (lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, mayonnaise and mustard) I did have to ask for more mustard, but the taste and size of the burger was delectable! Their fries were so good! Great sweet tea also! I will have to restrain from wanting to go everyday to try their everyday specials!
